Kailua Kona House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Nestled oh the slopes of Hualalai, the Keauhou Hideaway is a private retreat on 2.7 acres of lush tropical vegetation. The 800' elevation affords a spectacular view of the Kona coastline and ensures warm, sunny days and cool nights.

Guestbook comments from the owner
As those who came before us, we are not ready to leave our home away from home. The sunsets were amazing, we loved feeding the birds in the morning and watching the geckos. The fresh fruits from the trees and tasting things we've never seen. We also loved all the privacy. The house provides everything needed for a relaxing vacation. The towels are thick and soft, the bed so comfortable. The beach towels and acccessories are an added bonus. So we bid farewell to this very special place.

We live in Portland, Oregon, most of the year, but love to escape to Kona during the rainy season!

Brian Otting purchased this house in 2000

We chose this property because the setting, view and climate are awesome at this elevation, and the neighborhood is laid back and delightful, with many coffee growers, and even a chocolate 'factory'.

The Hideaway offers plenty of privacy, while still convenient to all amenities. Some of our guests compare it to staying at your own private spa. In the morning, you can pick a papaya and a lime off our trees, and create a delicious breakfast.

If you are a plant lover, there is a treat in store for you here...all sorts of beautiful trees, bushes and flowers. If you enjoyed the movie, 'Enchanted April', we think you'll like the Hideaway.

PARADISE FOUND!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I highly recommend renting this fantastic vacation home. The house is spacious, inviting and well-appointed. The bedrooms are comfortable, clean and private. There is a magnificent ocean view, pool and spa and magical garden. It is obvious the owners, property manager and gardener have given serious consideration to the needs, comforts and delights of their guests. They have created a special place - their own little slice of Paradise! We're so happy to have had the opportunity to share it.

THE PERFECT HAWAII HIDEAWAY

  • 5 of 5
We booked this home for 7 days and fell in love. It was very clean and straightforward. The views were impeccable and the pool and hottub made a great house the perfect house. We used two of the three bedrooms and they were adequate. The beds themselves could stand to be updated but that's my only complaint. Everything we needed was there for us and we cooked every morning and night. Well appointed kitchen! The views were perfect and the sunrise and sunsets were gorgeous! The home was very close to shopping areas, snorkeling and many beautiful beaches. It was a short drive from the airport as well. A bird feeder was a lovely addition and we enjoyed the birds at all hours. The grounds were beautiful and filled with fresh fruit trees. A branch of bananas was left for us when we arrived and they were greatly appreciated. Geckos are all over the property and we did see some giant bugs but we were in the tropics so expected. The washing machine and dryer and clothes line were greatly appreciated! We also loves the secluded location on the well maintained grounds. We never heard or saw another person our entire trip! It was wonderful!
In summary, we loved this house!! We will definitely be staying again and would book for Christmas but someone beat us to it! Love love love - enough said!

A SPECIAL SANCTUARY TO APPRECIATE THE TRUE BEAUTY AND SPIRIT OF HAWAII

  • 5 of 5
We have stayed at the Keauhou Hideaway for the past four years. It has become a sacred place for us to visit as the house is close enough to the excitement of Kona, but isolated and far enough away to provide peace. The sunsets from this altitude are unobstructed and magnificent. The higher altitude provides for cooler temperatures at night.

We cooked many of our meals at the house and was able to use many of the fruits and vegetables that grow on the property. We cut fresh flowers everyday to enjoy in the house.

Brian who manages the property and lives in the area was very responsive to our needs and requests. This is a special property. I car is required.

KEAUHOU HIDEAWAY

  • 5 of 5
My family loved this place the gardens and views are fantastic to see. We would stay there again. The 2.7 acres makes the place very private. The location is also great and the views from the yard, pool & hot tub of the ocean in front of you cannot be beat. They have put so much work into the gardens around the house.

GRACIOUS RETREAT, STUNNING VIEWS, EXQUISITE GARDENS

  • 5 of 5
Keauhou Hideaway is a unique and incredible property in a lovely upcountry neighborhood. The views of the ocean are sweeping, with sunsets that one simply melts into while sipping wine on the lovely deck. The gardens: oh my! The owners of this property clearly appreciate strong landscape architectural design and love luscious fruits and plants. It is a treat to walk through the gardens early in the morning and continue to find fine natural details. Later in the day, we appreciated being able to cool off in the small pool and hop into the hot tub.

The rooms are simple with a quiet feeling. I found it easy to nap and read a novel from our bedroom. The kitchen is very well appointed, open and a place in which we enjoyed cooking many fine meals (often, we did not want to venture out for dining because of the lure of this home). Living areas, both outside and inside, are inviting and airy. My husband was often out in the atrium to read or visit with our friends. The home is also immaculate.

A short drive away, one can arrive at any number of beaches for swimming with turtles, snorkeling, and kayaking. Charming villages and restaurants are also within easy driving distance.

This was quite simply one of the best places we've experienced in our many travels throughout Hawaii. Try it!

RELAX AND GET AWAY FROM IT ALL!

  • 5 of 5
How do you measure a great vacation? Have you had one lately? My family and I enjoyed a great one at the Hideaway!

When I returned from our Hideaway vacation the first thing that startled me was a car driving by on my street as I lay in bed. At the Hideaway I had not heard a single vehicle while lying in bed, or lounging by the pool for over a week. With the exception of chirping bird songs, and the distant crow of a roster, the Hideaway is very quiet and peaceful. This home is located on a narrow private drive, with only a few other homes nearby. It's private, secluded settling make it a great place to relax and unwind.

My wife and I went with our girls, 10 and 14 years old and stayed about 10 days at the Hideaway in June. The entire family enjoyed the expansive, lush grounds with the fruit trees (the girls loved spotting and picking “ripe ones”) and the variety of beautiful birds. The wide blue Pacific is the backdrop to the lanai and pool areas, delighting with beautiful sunsets. As those of you who have been know, the big island’s lava shores do not offer numerous or extensive sandy beaches. Oceanfront living delivers only the sights and sounds of the surf, as access is focused on limited beach areas. Humidity at sea level is noticeably higher than at the Hideaway’s 800 foot elevation, making it distinctly more pleasant and easier to get a restful night’s sleep up on the mountain side.

The configuration of the Hideaway’s three bedrooms, each with their own bath, allows a degree of privacy and ability to sleep-in if one chooses. The separate kitchen, dining and living room building lets those who wish to stay up or get up early, do so with disturbing others. The courtyard between the buildings, the lanai, pool and hot tub areas offer areas for relaxation, reading, bird watching, or whatever. Meals can be easily served outdoors at the lanai table.

It is a short drive north into Kona. Great restaurants are minutes away in every direction. Shopping is also just minutes away. I highly recommend the kayak trip across Kealakakua Bay. Go early - snorkeling the reef in front of Capt'n Cook's monument is fantastic and if the Dolphins are in they will captivate you with their grace and thrilling jumps.

My family and I can’t wait to return to the Hideaway, hopefully next time for 2 weeks!
