Guestbook comments from the owner

We had an extraordinary time!!! The setting was absolutely beautiful. The pool and beach were just amazing and it was such a wonderful relaxed atmosphere. The apartment was very accommodating and well suited to our needs. We are DEFINITELY considering returning.

With our young boys, the accommodations were fine. It's hard to accommodate a family of 5. We may consider 3 bedrooms next time, but the living space was just terrific.

Thank you again.

Apartment at Cotton Bay Resort

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Valerie's apartment at Cotton Bay Resort in St Lucia. The apartment was recently refurbished and was of a very high standard. The apartment is 30 seconds from the pool, which is really convenient with children. Valerie was brilliant to deal with as I had many questions before our trip. She was very helpful and always friendly.

The resort itself is lovely, but it does need a bit of TLC. I believe this is due to happen in the coming months. Even so, we spent many happy days relaxing by the huge pool. There is also a separate shaded baby pool. We used the kids club too, which was brilliant. Our 2.5 year old settled very well so we used the 2 free hours on all the days that we stayed at the resort. We didn't use the beach at the resort at all because of all the seaweed that has washed ashore due to summer storms. We took cabs to the local beaches. Rodney Bay beach is lovely - white sand, warm sea - just what you would imagine. We also went to pigeon island and Smugglers Beach - both lovely. The restaurant at Smugglers beach was very good. Try the local BBQ stalls on the beach at Rodney bay - just down the beach from Spinnakers. Excellent local food. For a special dinner out try Tao at Le Sport - just 5 minutes by taxi from Cotton Bay. For the best pancakes, try Cafe Ole at Rodney Bay Harbour. Really delicious and inexpensive.

Further afield, we hired a car for 2 days and visited Marigot Bay and also the volcano and mud baths at Souffiere. Both worth a visit. We also went to the Castries food market to buy some fresh fish and local fruits and vegetables that you won't find in the supermarkets.

Overall, a wonderful 2 week holiday, with warm sunshine everyday and very comfortable accommodation.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write such a helpful review, Melissa. It's full of great suggestions for future guests, which I will add to my Insiders Guide to St Lucia! The management assure me that they will be upgrading the common areas of the resort in the near future, in addition to my poolside apartment, which I'm glad that Melissa found so comfy.

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

I had an all-round excellent experience, from my first inquiry to my check-out at the end of my stay and would wholeheartedly recommend this apartment and Cotton Bay resort on the whole!

The apartment - very clean, beautiful, spacious, comfortable and well furnished. The kitchen came with all the basic pots and pans, crockery and cutlery. The living room balcony has a lovely view of the resort pool. All of the photos do genuinely reflect what the place looks like!

The resort - excellent staff, all incredibly welcoming and helpful. We felt very safe and secure at all times. The beach is a 1 minute walk away and there's a great little bar/restaurant right on the beach. We spent an afternoon there having lunch and drinks and everything was tasty. Unless you just want to lie in the sun or do some horseback riding, the beach itself is not the best but it is nice and private, which is a big plus. We spent a fair bit of time in the pool and really enjoyed it.

Location - Rodney Bay / Gros Islet is just a 5 - 10 minute drive away and we spent a few evenings there at the bars and restaurants. There's a great selection of restaurants on offer and we had a wonderful experience at each one. We also loved Reduit beach! For cooking, there's a big supermarket about 5 - 10 minutes drive away and the resort as well. If you fly into the international airport in the South of the island, Cotton Bay is about a 90 minute drive. Totally worth it if you're staying for a week or more but if for any less, factor this in!

great stay

Contact with owner has been very pleasant. Quick email response and helpful information to the questions we had. Nicely aiming at service to customer. Property was neat and according to description. Lovely swimmingpool and beach in close range (1 minute walk). Cotton Bay park has quiet atmosphere and caring staff. Maintenance is slightly overdue. For your convenience a rental car is recommended.

Impressive

  • 5 of 5

Very nice, comfortable condo, super friendly staff, excellent food, great pool.

Quiet location away from the busy party area but easily accessible by a taxi.

Perfect for kids, including the very well managed kids club (free of charge).

The beach is good for walking, horseback riding, surfing but not as spectacular as the other popular beaches on the Carribean side of the island.

Prices at the resort are super reasonable especially for the high quality of the food/drinks and service.

Highly recommended.

Easy walk to the beach, great lap pool

  • 4 of 5

Nice quiet beach on the Atlantic side. No other resorts in this bay. Villa had a view of the pool and an easy walk to the beach. It had a baby pool, large pool area and even lanes for lap swim. Pool was great for laps and never too crowded. We rented a car so had an easy drive to Rodney Bay for groceries, shopping, dinners. We did several excursions so we weren't in the villa much. We were two adult couples and stayed for a week. The villa was nice but there were places it could use a little TLC work but was quite fine for us. The desk staff, Abdullah and another man...(forgot his name) were wonderful and a great help. We were never bothered by mosquitos. The villa was clean and Cotton Bay Village seemed very friendly and safe. I would recommend this rental.

Perfect relaxing family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely apartment. Valerie (owner) was so easy to deal with and it was brilliant that we could cook all our own meals on site. We did order a couple of dinners as room service that were reasonable and delicious.

We booked a transfer to and from the airport with PVH tours, who were very professional and had a car seat available for our 18 month old. It was about $85 each way and took 1.5 hours. They stopped on the way to Cotton Bay at a place called Rodney Bay to pick up groceries (about 15 mins from the resort). I'd recommend the supermarket opposite the IGA rather than the IGA. I'd also recommend stocking up for the week on food there as it is very expensive in the deli on site. There was no food left in the apartment, so we bought everything including salt! There is a free shuttle bus to Rodney bay at 1030 every Mon and Thursday that returns after 2 hours.

The view over the pool was lovely and the balcony was well enclosed with no gaps for our toddler to squeeze out of. The apartment also had a high chair, travel cot, mosquito nets and baby bath. The shower was great. And I'd recommend the on site spa and golf course.

We also made full use of the kids club. It's free for 2 hours a day and there are plenty of toys and books you can borrow. Also, if you have dinner at the Piano bar, the first hour of baby sitting is free. I don't trust just anyone to look after our son, but I was very relaxed with Juan, who clearly enjoys her job looking after kids.

We hired a car through the resort for a day for around $95, which included a local licence and child seat. We went to a gorgeous resort called Anse Chastenet. It was about 2 hours each way through beautiful forests. The turn off to the resort was hard to see. It was at the bottom of the hill on the right off the last bend where there was a hotel called the Hummingbird. The road looked like a track, but it was fine to drive down. It had beach chairs to rent for $10ea, but no towels. The BBQ local fish was amazing.

Overall, a lovely stay for a much needed sunshine holiday. We'll be back!

Located in the loveliest part of St Lucia, Cotton Bay Village is a small private resort on the north east coast, where the cooling sea breezes blow. It is right on Plantation Beach, a safe, sandy bathing beach protected by an off-shore reef, and next to the only 18 hole championship golf course on the island. Cotton Bay is just 15 minutes by car from the shops and restaurants of Rodney Bay and its 'Friday night jump-up' - a lively street party with dancing, drinks, food and live music - highly recommended.

St Lucia is a jewel in the Caribbean, English-speaking, with friendly locals who welcome tourists with open arms. It is renowned for its beaches and crystal clear waters - snorkelling and scuba diving are both popular.

You can sail and island-hop to nearby islands like Martinique or just enjoy a sunset cruise to view the majestic Pitons - two spectacular volcanic peaks near Soufriere - a world heritage site and one of the scenic highlights of the Caribbean. Other tourist attractions include a drive-in volcano, at Soufrière, with natural hot springs (take your bathers), the Botanical Gardens, hiking in the rain forests, and Pigeon Island National Park, which is home to Fort Rodney, an old British military base. The island is encircled by gorgeous beaches and yacht harbours, such as Marigot Bay, the interior has spectacular scenery, being mostly mountainous rain forest, which sometimes falls sheer to the sea, offering fantastic views and hiking opportunities. You can even climb to the summit of Gros Piton, 2,600 ft (500 m) above sea level - it is a two hour strenuous walk up and a shorter 1.5 hrs down again.

The St Lucia International Jazz festival in May draws crowds from around the world, with world-class musicians performing and a different party every night.

Try the local food such as coal pot - a delicious stew, traditional to native carib cultures which can be found at many local restaurants. Local cuisine is prepared throughout the island so, depending on where you are staying, ask a local if he or she knows someone/somewhere that prepares local food and you will be sure to be welcomed somewhere nearby. Many rum shacks in rural towns also prepare food if given advanced notice. Fish, veggie, chicken and goat meals are very common and usually come with a number of sides including salad, plantain, breadfruit, macaroni, and rice prepared a number of different ways.

The tropical weather ensures year-round sunshine and temperatures of around 80 degrees F. Expect rain showers from May to August, and cooling breezes year round. The dry season is from December to April.

No visas required for European or American citizens. Car hire is easy to arrange from the airport - they drive on the left in St Lucia. Taxis are inexpensive and accommodating - probably the best way to organise a tour of the island.
