My husband and I love the outdoors, and love any place that couples a small town with great outdoor activies. We love to hike, swim, bike, kayak and spend lots of time with our kids, doing things together.
We just love this town, and we just love the barrier Island. Its a beach in its purest form, on Assateague Island, no houses, or highrises to destroy what nature meant to be. And Chincoteague is a small town that remains a fishing village, so you can get a great experience all around!
As small business owners, self employed, it is important for us to be able to work when we travel so this house has everything you need to stay connected if you need to, or to completely disconnect if you want to. It is a house the leaves the choice up to you, accomodates a decent number of folks comfortably and is a well equipped place so there is not much you'll lack for.
We needed a perfect home set up away from home and close to the beach - needed to accommodate our family and dog, as well as extended family meeting us from up North.
This was PERFECT in every way. From the cozy living room - well set up kitchen - spacious rooms - and delightful back screened porch. We LOVED the outdoor shower for the kids coming back from the beach!! I will send anyone I know to enjoy this.
ALSO - loved that we could walk to fishing areas, coffee shop, tourist shopping, and food. Bills restaurant rocked our world for a Birthday dinner. Make a reservation and ENJOY!!! :)
This older cottage is accurately described in the listing, very simple, no frill, so cozy and well organized. Chincoteague is just so laid back and this cottage totally represents that atmosphere. The price is great, we went with extended family and friends and the kids had a blast bunking in the upstairs room. The owner, Ellen, is extremely responsive and answered all our questions. We had an awesome time in this simple, lovely and comfortable cottage and we will definitely be coming back. Be sure to bring your own towels and linens so you don't have to wait to wash and dry theirs upon departure. It can take a while to wash and dry that many sheets. I would recommend to families and friends.
My wife childen and 3 friends stayed their in June and had a wonderful time. All the ammenities that we needed was there, including the mallots we used for the bussel of crabs we ate. The location allowed us to walk everywhere and is super close to the creamery where my little girls enjoyed evening icecream after a wonderful day at the beach. The home is also super close to a coffee house where my wife and I enjoyed a cup of coffee in the morning. We will definately be back.
Overall this was a nice house to stay in if you are not looking for luxury, which we were not. The furniture in the picture is not the same in the house, but I do believe that was stated on one of the information pages. The current furniture is very worn and actually has an unpleasant odor. The beautiful 4 post king size bed has been replaced with a water bed frame and a mattress that is very worn. No box spring so the bed is only a foot or two off of the floor. The pump was missing for the air mattress so that was unusable. Thankfully we didn't need it. The futon is very uncomfortable. The mattress on it is thin and worn so the bars on the actual futon is hard to sleep on. The one single size bed upstairs is just a mattress and box spring on the floor. The sleeping situation was not the greatest, but other than that it was a nice house to stay in. Check in and Check out were both very easy. Would be nice to be reminded when final payment is due. I remembered, but I could see easily forgetting especially when most of the time reservations are made months in advance. All in all, it was a nice place.
My husband, myself and my two grown sons rented this cottage for one week in August 2012. This cottage appealed to us because of all the rooms, the reasonable rental cost, and the location on the island close to Main Street and an easy bike ride to the beach (short walk to Mr Whippie's!). The owner, Ellen, was very helpful and replied to all my emails very quickly and in a very friendly manner. The cottage is lovely - we are very used to renting cottages in small beach towns so our expectations were more than met. To start, there's lots of room. The kitchen is a delight to cook in with all the counter space and island - we had all our breakfasts here and cooked 2 large seafood feasts as well. The living room is comfy and I liked the new furniture better because I didn't have to worry about it getting wrecked! The bedrooms are spacious and the beds very comfortable. There is a small screened porch off the kitchen which we used a lot and thankfully it had a fan because it can get very hot on the island. The cottage has central air and there are lots of ceiling fans which we enjoyed too. The front porch is not screened but it is covered and we often sat there in the evening. From the shed we used the bikes, the beach chairs and the umbrella and all were fine - nothing fancy but very usable. The cottage itself is decorated nicely with hard wood floors throughout the lower level and in the bedroom upstairs. Our boys stayed upstairs (with their own bathroom) which they appreciated so they didn't have to hear my husband snoring! Overall , this is a lovely, clean and well maintained cottage - not overly fancy but nice and comfortable just like a cottage should be - bring your own towels and sheets and you won't have to wash and dry them before you leave, most cottages don't provide linens or toilet paper, etc. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends.
We spent the week of the 4th of July here. We loved the Islands layed back style, the beach is beautiful. But the initial impressions of the house were not so fond. Pretty much all the furniture in the pictures is not the furniture in the house, the stuff in there is very cheap mostly from Ikea. That nice 4 poster bed, gone. Plus only 2 tv's not the 3 listings. Towels yes. 5 (beach/bath) towels. 1 roll of Toilet paper provided, and 1 trash bag. But no one tells you so you spend a bunch of time looking. They ask you to wash / dry and put away all the sheets before you leave. The only problem is it takes FOR EVER for the sheets and towels to dry. We waited around an hour longer than planned waiting for the sheets to dry. There is a long explanation of the wifi and its settings, but it dont read it as the wifi is unsecure your device will just see it and connect. BIkes, yup with flat tires and no pump. Management company suggest a couple gas stations that might have free air. Of course not sure how to get the bikes to the gas stations. Got to cut up a water melon with a cake frosting knife as all the other knives were 3 or 4" long only. Despite all this we enjoyed the Island and had a good vacations. Might come back but would find another house to try so my nickname here only goes for the local not the house.
Bike to the Ocean, 1 block from the Bay and Downtown
