Our house sits peacefully in semi-seclusion with views in the heart of the Green Mountains. It has 5 bedrooms, 2 baths. Two minutes to skiing, five to town! This place has everything you need for a good time: Outdoor Hot Tub, fully and tastefully furnished, comfortable, down-covered beds, HDTV/VCRs/DVDs, stereo, laundry, Wi-Fi, close to town, private. The beautiful new kitchen is fully equipped for those who like to cook. It features granite counters, new appliances, and a center island which makes a wonderful social space with stools around it. Staples, cleaning supplies, spices, condiments, linens, etc. are all included. All you need to bring is your toothbrush and skis.
Pets are permitted with deposit.
Recent Remodeling: Several years ago we completed a major remodeling project which included more than doubling the size of the kitchen, putting in all new top-of-the-line appliances, new cabinets with granite countertops, a large center island with stools around it to sit and socialize with the cook, tiled floors, all tastefully decorated. This has dramatically changed the flow and feeling of the house, opening everything up and making it much more accommodating for large groups. Also, we have added a screened-in back porch and another deck that goes the entire East side of the house from front to back, connecting the back porch to the front deck. The hot tub is now sequestered at the back of this side deck next to the porch.
SKIING DETAILS:: This house is a stone's throw from the entrance to Sugarbush North, Mt. Ellen. It is about ten minutes to South. Also, going the other direction you are about 5 minutes to Mad River Glen, one of the most unique ski areas anywhere. For the children, we have sleds available that you can use right on the property or elsewhere. Snowshoeing and Nordic skiing is conveniently available, also: The Catamount trail is a quarter mile away, and other trails go up back of the house through the woods.
We are a couple nearing retirement who like to travel and have a large family of children and grandchildren plus friends we like to visit. Neither one of us ski much so renting our home seemed like a natural way to pay for our travels and help with our finances. We have been renting for some years now, and have had great luck with guests who have treated our property well and been very appreciative to rent a well-cared for home.
Don Rhoades purchased this house in 1997
Where we are is a natural for ski rentals. German Flats Road, which is the road we turn out onto when leaving Hiddenwood, connects Sugarbush North to Sugarbush South, and Mad River Glen is only a few minutes away in the other direction. We're only two miles to town and approximately a half mile away from a popular restuarant. That plus the fact that we've put a lot of love and care in fixing up our home makes our place very desirable for family groups and adult renters.
We sit in the middle of a two-acre lot that has a large front yard, a small pond, and is surrounded by forest. You are in a secluded glen, even though our neighbors are only a short walk through the trees.
COZY COMFORTABLE and JUST LIKE HOME
We have rented many homes from Homeaway and VRBO and have never been in one that was so well equipped as this one. The owners literally left their home for us as if we were family. There was a plentiful supply of towels, linens, paper and cleaning products; an amazing array of kitchen appliances and cooking materials; lots of comfortable places to sit; enough bedrooms for our whole family; and even a playroom filled with toys and games for children of all ages. The hot tub was great. The location was great. The owners were a pleasure to work with. We highly recommend this rental and look forward to spending time here again, especially if there is tons of SNOW!!!
Great easy to work with owner, cozy home to stay for skiing, could not be any closer to swing over to the mountains. Right between Sugarbush and MRG. Fun time. Thanks for the nice stay! Family had a blast with a comfortable stay and some great VT skiing!
Don was a wonderful owner to work with. He even called during the weekend just to see how we were doing. Everything from the initial inquiry email to leaving the house after a great ski weekend was fantastic. The house was clean, well-maintained, and matched the description on the website. The house comfortably sleeps 10-12 and 3 full bathrooms are incredibly helpful. Additionally, the hot tub was particularly nice in the cold weather! For being only 5 min to Mt. Ellen and about 10-15 min to Sugarbush, I would absolutely recommend this property to friends and family. I plan to come back in the future!
A wonderful place to stay and enjoy Vermont. The house is spacious enough to house twelve adults and keep them entertained after a day on the slopes of sugarbush. Board games, hot tub, sleds and a full size kitchen and entertainment areas are available to make sure no one has a bad time. In addition to the house, dealing with the landlord is enjoyable and no hassle. All in all my entire group loved the vacation and hopes to come back next year.
My friends and I (a total of 11) stayed at this property for 3 nights/4 days. We had a great time and loved everything about our mini-vacation! When we arrived, the house was very clean and inviting. The property manager was also flexible on our arrival time and even had the cleaning service come a few hours earlier so we could access the house right away.
Access to Sugarbush ski resort was easy and only a 10 minute ride to the main parking lot (less to Mt. Ellen but due to conditions we did not ski there).
As for the house itself, we were 5 couples and 1 single person. 4 of the couples slept in actual beds, 1 couple slept in two twin beds and the single person had to sleep on an air mattress (or the sofa if he chose). I would say that this house sleeps 10 comfortably but if you are okay with air mattresses then it can sleep 12.
If you are considering staying here, I would get more specifics on what you can use in the kitchen and what you cannot use. They keep this place stocked and half of the things we brought (crock pot, blender, etc.) we didn't need. The house itself is lived in full-time so it has a very cozy vibe.
Because of weather conditions, our group skied a half day on Sunday before departures. Don was kind enough to extend our check out time as well.
All in all, this was a great house for our annual ski trip and I would definitely stay here again. Thanks Don!
This is a great place for a nice ski getaway. We had 7 adults and 4 kids (ages 8,6,2,1) and we were all comfortable in this house. Their kitchen is beautiful and has every piece of cooking equipment you would ever want (our biggest problem was finding it, because there was so much space to put stuff!!). The bedrooms were all very comfortable and they recently changed one of the basement rooms into a get rec room/bed room for the kids. The older kids loved this room and spent the majority of their time (when not skiing) in this room playing games and watching netflix (we brought our own Wii to hook up to this TV). This gave the adults a lot of adult time, which was nice. The hot-tub was also great and we were able to relax in it comfortably even when it was below zero! This place was really close to the slopes (Sugarbush), Waitsfield shopping center and all the ski resort area stores. If we return to Sugarbush to ski, we would definitely try to stay that this house again. The owners were very nice and accommodating.
This home is literally awesome - it had four very comfortable bedrooms and a 5th room with a nice pull out sofa. The living area, kitchen and outdoor is clean, comfortable and spacious enough for a party of 10. The house is in fact 2 minutes from Mt. Ellen and maybe 4 minutes from Lincoln Peak - both part of Sugarbush.
The hot tub was well prepared and ready for us when we arrived - there were plenty of towels and a washer/dryer, which we were able to use!
I would highly recommend this home - and might even venture back there someday!
The house sits in privacy on two wooded acres with views and a hot tub. Sugarbush and Mad River Glen ski areas are minutes away. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails abound within easy walking distance. Nightlife, fine and casual dining, shopping, movie theater, live music, and spas all thrive in the Mad River Valley. Tennis, health club, swimming at the Bridges or Sugarbush Sports Center. This is a winter-only rental, with occasional exceptions.
Other Activities: kayaking, hiking mountain trails
