Getting away from it all...

Having lived on Putney Mountain a few years back, I knew exactly what I wanted when I started looking for a place to host a "sisters' getaway weekend." I wanted a secluded house on a mountain with good interior amenities and a fabulous view. I found all of that in this rental house just a couple of miles from the heart of Putney.
The location is quiet and secluded with no neighbors in sight or hearing distance ~ a huge plus coming from a bustling city environment. Another benefit of being so secluded is having access to the true dark of night. Stargazing here is wonderful because there's no competing glow from city lights.
The pictures don't do justice to the property. This might be a good thing, though, because it was really great to get out of the car and see it was even better than what I had seen online. Although there are three separate floors, the open staircase and high ceilings in parts of the home make it feel like a loft. And the views are just great fantastic. If you're sleeping in the master bedroom, be prepared to wake with the sunrise as the room faces east and has no curtains. But why would you want to block such a wonderful sight anyway?
If you're planning your first trip to Vermont, it's important to understand that it's really a rural state. This might be stating the obvious, but if you align your expectations with the reality, you won't be disappointed. Restaurants here close early and there's no delivery so you have to plan ahead and stock up on what you need. The Putney Co-op is a great place to grab a forgotten essential, including a great bottle of wine or artisanal bread. Try the Day After Thanksgiving sandwich and homemade pie at the Putney Diner, but go early as they stop serving at 8 p.m.
I would recommend this home to anyone looking for peace and quiet with great views from any spot. My sister and I liked it so much, that we're already talking about returning with our families in the summer. I know the kids would love it as much as we did. And in the summer, you can go swimming in the local rivers where the water is so clear you can hardly believe it.
Oh Vermont, the way life should be. Go and enjoy it all from this great property!
