The cottage is in Oceana County, about two miles south of Stony Lake. The cottage is far off the nearest road, with a huge private sandy beach. The lake bottom is also sandy--no rocks or stones. We have 200 feet of frontage on Lake Michigan, and there is plenty of wood for beach fires. The cottage is in a rural area which keeps it quiet. The nearest store is 2 miles away in Stony Lake. (Please note: Cottage is closed for the winter between mid-October and mid-May.)

We are 15 minutes from sand dune rides, 20 minutes from the largest amusement park in Michigan, and close to 6 golf courses, including a championship course. The area is rural, so it is good for bicycling. We are also close to a 22 mile long rail trail. There is a local smokehouse with excellent steaks, a winery, a dairy with great ice cream, and cherry orchards with wonderful desserts; you should never be hungry. It is about a 4 hour drive from metro Chicago or Detroit.

Relaxing, beautiful, friendly get away!

This is the third year that I - and my pups - have visited Jim's rustic cabin. The setting is secluded and quiet - perfet for a relaxing get away from work, TV, telephones and computers! Great places to hike, read from the extensive book collection, Bar-B-Q, enjoy a bonfire - or just lay on the beach - which is incredibly beautiful - and on most days - almost deserted! Because I can take my goldens along, they get a vacation too!
Within 10 minutes I can buy meat from a local smokehouse, fresh fruits and veggies from a great market (which also has a wonderful petting zoo) and fresh ice cream and dairy.
This is a great spot to consider when you want to get away, eat great - and relax!

It was the best of times ~~

"Sandy Shoes" is a perfect destination for those who wish to travel with their canine friends. My two Bernese Mountain Dogs and I enjoyed every minute of our stay. A friend and her two children (5 and 9) joined us for part of our week and they could not have had better fun. The beach is beautifully sandy - no rocks. The water is shallow. One can walk for miles and seldom encounter another person. Photographic opportunities abound. Lots of sightseeing available for those who wish to leave this bit of paradise and explore the area. We did not. The accommodations are rustic and exactly what one wants to not have to worry about wet dogs and sand! Cell phone usage is wonderfully unreliable. :0) Thank you, Jim, for your hospitality. We can't wait to return. Patty,and The BGs (Berner Girls) Skye and Trina

Perfect place to relax

We've been coming to Jim's cabin for the last 6 yr's! It is the most relaxing, beautiful place that I can think of. The beach is beautiful, the sunsets are out of this world. Our dog can swim, run, and we can walk for miles surrounded by the most awesome sights day after day. You can have the beach all to yourself, which is so cool! I do bring along a small TV with DVD player to catch up on all those movies I never have time to watch,& books to read. I would not trade this vacation spot for anything. Jim is also close by for any info. This is like a piece of heaven on earth!

Family Friendly Cottage on the Beach

We love this cabin on the lake in so many ways. The location is excellent. The beach is fantastic. The water is close, but not too close (to be a danger to young children.) It's off the road, which we appreciate. We also appreciate that it is pet friendly.
While the cottage is quite old, it is clean & well maintained. We also appreciate that it is pet friendly. There is MUCH to do in the area. We've returned again and again because we enjoy it so much.
Recommended for:  Pet-friendly, Sightseeing, Families with Young Children
