The house is located in Shady Harbor, a private, family-oriented community. Drive down the wooded streets to find a beautiful surprise: Quonochontaug Pond and the community of Shady Harbor. The atmosphere lends itself to total enjoyment for those looking for that getaway weekend in the off-season, or sports & water fun in the summer. There are many places of interest within a half-hour drive. Yet you are away from the commercialization that is in many major beach communities. Misquamicut Beach is nearby when you want it though. A beach pass for the private ocean beach is included. For more information see the link at the bottom of this page. The house is bright and cheerful and totally renovated in 2008. In Fall, Winter or Spring imagine having a fire in the fireplace while gazing out the window and watching the water and nature. Summer brings warm days and a change in the scenery making all seasons enjoyable in different way. High ceilings and lots of light enhance the atmosphere.

Rhode Island's southern coast in South County was voted one of the 12 best places to vacation by money.cnn.COM and Shady Harbor is right in the middle! The house is located across the street from Quonachontaug Pond, which is a salt water pond with just a large dune and beach separating it from the ocean. A boat launch and separate little beach are short walks down the just down the road. (The pond beach has no life guard and is used only at your own risk). Renters will be supplied with a beach pass to Weekapaug Beach which is a private ocean beach that has a life guard on duty during the summer season. The area has many different water sports, golf and other activities, such as fishing, hiking, biking, live theater, museums, wildlife, and amusement parks nearby. Close by you will find Watch Hill, an old fashioned New England beach community w/ world famous flying horse carousel & fine restaurants. Newport, Watch Hill, Foxwoods, and Mystic Seaport are just a short drive away.

Central AC is there for those few days when it is 'just too hot for comfort.' The large screened porch catches the breezes on hot days. It provides water views w/ comfortable seating plus a dining table for bug-free dining. There are 2 bedrooms on the main floor and one twin bedroom on ground floor. There is a sleeper sofa in the ground floor game room. The living & dining rooms are comfortably appointed with newly purchased furniture & artwork. The fully equipped kitchen has been totally renovated during the fall winter of 2004. Downstairs is a new wet bar/kitchenette, family room featuring a pool table & a TV viewing area plus a full bath and laundry. This house was gutted and totally renovated during the winter of 2008. The new top floor is NOT included in rentals and is locked off. The main floor has French doors off the master bedroom and the twin bedroom is double the size of the former bedroom and features a seating area with TV in a cabinet.

Shady Harbor is just over the town line from Westerly on Route 1.

Lovely cottage

My sister's family and ours stayed here last summer for a week and it was lovely! A cute neighborhood and the kids biked around the block oodles of time. We swam at the beach down the street and made it over to the big ocean beach several times. The house is calming and relaxing ( and clean) with space for everybody -- whether you want to curl up with a book on the porch, play pool in the basement while watching a baseball game or grill fresh fish on the deck.

Everyone loves the house, the community and the experience they have while renting the house. We have now given it a name: Lone Star Cottage. Hope all like the name as well as they like the house.
