My family stayed at the Jewel House in August, Celebrating their
60th wedding anniversary. We love the home, all one level,
and large bedrooms. The Mexican details in the home are beautiful. Leo our host was very helpful. We took the family to
the American legion in Chapala for a barbeque and the markets in Chapala and Ajijic. And of course Tango(our favorite restaurant) to celebrate with a big dinner with friends and family. A great trip.. We are repeat guests at this home and will be back..
My wife and I stayed for 9 lovely, deeply satisfying days at the Mexican
Jewel House. We could not have been more pleased. First, if you have not
been to Ajijic and you are looking for a non-touristy town with
gorgeous weather, beautiful views, and lovely people--both locals and
expats, this may be he best possible place for you. The town is small
and manageable, excellent restaurants (and not expensive). with striking
murals and art work throughout the village. And the Jewel House is just
that: a jewel, a gem. The house is aesthetically colorful, restful, and
convenient. Everything in the house is clean and in excellent working order. There is excellent maid service and the house is well-equipped with everything you might need. And we must say, everything is done to see that all your needs are met. Before you arrive, you receive an excellent package of directions, tips, and recommendations. and do pay particular attention to the restaurant recommendations. The recommendations for taxi services are also highly useful and reliable. We could go on and on, but let us
just say, if we could give Jewel House more than 5 stars, we would give
If you want a typical Mexican visit to Ajijic, stay at The Mexican Jewel House. Located a block north of the main street in the center of town, it is within walking distance to all that The Village has to offer; shopping, restaurants, the plaza and Lake Chapala. The narrow cobblestone streets that begin at your front door transport you immediately into the status of "neighbor". The two bedroom, 1 1/2 bath Mexican decorated home has all the amenities necessary for a comfortable stay and our host and hostess treated us more like friends than clients; she and my wife even hiked together. Our host checked on a regular basis to see if everything was okay. Everything considered, we had a truly enjoyable stay and would not hesitate to recommend The Mexican Jewel House as a must stay location for anyone contemplating a visit to Ajijic, Mexico!
We will always remember, with great fondness, our stays at the Mexican Sunrise House and the Mexican Jewel House. They were our first homes in Lake Chapala while we were deciding whether to move here and, then, looking for our new wonderful home where we now live. Both of Leo and Gaby's houses are soooo comfortable and charming, we were tempted to not leave at all!! Everything is even better than described and they make a perfect "launchpad" to explore the Lake Chapala area and Ajijic in particular. These two houses and their very cordial and knowledgeable hosts played a large part in our decision to make Lake Chapala our home for the next chapter of our lives. You simply cannot do better for value, comfort and location --- just a short walk through a real Mexican village to a lovely square and many good restaurants and great little shops. The Gutmans provide loads of recommendations right in the house and are always happy to give more information and tips upon request. When our new house overflows with visitors from home, these 2 houses will be our recommendation for their stay.
The jewel house is really that - a cozy, charming and comfortable place to relax and experience the culture of Mexico. Everything works well and Leo is a most helpful host.
The Jewel house in Ajijic is appropriately named. This clean, comfortable, well stocked home was more than the four of us expected ! It is tastefully decorated and nestled into a nice neighborhood with walking access to small markets, bus stops, through town and to the lakeside park. There is an information book in the house with detailed descriptions of local highlights, taxi info, car rentals, restaurants and galleries. Leo will also greet you to make sure you are comfortable and tell you about any special craft fairs, or farmers markets that might be happening. I recommend a bus ride to the hot mineral pools at Hotel Balneario. We loved our week in the Jewel House and will tell others about its comfort and location.
