Overview

Leysin Chalet Rental Photos and Description

Four en suite bedrooms and open plan living area

The chalet has three floors covering 240sq m and the four bedrooms can sleep 10. The upper floor has two bedrooms sharing a balcony. There is also a study area. The lower floor has a laundry room and the two other bedrooms one of which is a family room. The open plan living area has a log fire and comfortable seating. The dining area seats 12. The luxury kitchen is fully fitted out. French doors open onto the main balcony equipped with a table and chairs. On this, the ground floor, there is also a large entrance hall and WC. There is under floor central heating and the boiler provides plenty of hot water. All the rooms are south facing. The large flat garden has a patio with a table and seating. The chalet has a car port and additional off road parking for 2-3 cars.

Leysin has been noted for its sunny climate for over 100 years and is situated on a plateau 1250m above sea level with southerly views of the Dents du Midi across the Rhone valley. The village is readily accessible by road but also by train using the Aigle - Leysin narrow gauge railway. In winter, skiing is the main attraction with both downhill and cross country and there is a snow park with a half-pipe and jumps for adventurous skiers and snowboarders. A free bus service also links Leysin with the nearby resorts of Les Mosses and La Lecherette providing 100km of runs. Further afield the resort of Les Diablerets (25mins by car) links with Villars and high altitude skiing can be found on the nearby glacier (Glacier 3000). There is also a skating rink and toboggan park. In summer there are plenty of well marked hiking trails and many mountain bike downhill runs and trails. Mountaineering and via ferrata can also be experienced. In the village there are tennis courts both indoors and outdoors, an indoor swimming pool and a horse riding school.

At the top of the telecabine on the Berneuse (2048m) is the famous Kuklos rotating restaurant offering a 360degree panoramic view of the local mountains and Lake Geneva. Aigle castle houses a museum of wine and wine-making. There are golf courses at Aigle and Villars and a water park on the banks of Lake Geneva.

Leysin is a perfect place for energetic holidays or simply a relaxing time in the mountains.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Once again we had a wonderful time at your chalet. The place has such a welcome feel to it. This is our third stay and even though our second child has just gradulated from LAS and we won't have children to come and visit here, they will still be asking us to make a return visit. This mountain has been a big part of our lives for six years. We are sure to visit again.

Home from home - great with young children!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this chalet with another family and it was perfect. Our children range from 1-6 years and everything was provided (cot, highchair, stairgate). It was very clean and well equipped - we even had a BBQ in the snow! There was games, books and DVDs for the children. The owners were helpful from start to finish and responded quickly to any queries we had. We were there at the end of the ski season so the resort and slopes were quiet which suited us perfectly. The only downside is the nursery slope is a bit of a walk uphill. However, I believe there may be bus which we didn't utilise. If you're not using the nursery slope the ski lifts are easy and quick to get to. Would definitely return.

Extremely comfortable, ideally situated chalet

  • 5 of 5

We had a great skiing week staying in Chalet le Murier. It was extremely comfortable - the beds were great and every bedroom had an ensuite. The bedrooms in the lower ground floor where we stayed were ideal for a family with young kids. The kids had a bedroom which was really spacious with books and beanbags. They were very happy. The kitchen/open plan living/dining area is really spacious and very well equipped. Pat and Sidney were extremely helpful with directions and all sorts of advice and tips for our stay. Very happy memories, thank you.

A fabulous place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful clean swiss chalet with stunning views and ideally situated to all the local amenities, (supermarkets, restaurants, cafe/bar, ski lifts all very near by). The owners were very easy to deal with from start to finish and very helpful. The chalet itself is a very generous size with all living areas well sized and accomodated for, like being at home, very well equipped especially the kitchens and bathrooms/ensuites. Directions to the chalet were straight forward, Geneva airport train station straight to Brig(Aigle) then one transfer from Aigle to Leysin. Would advice you buy train tickets in advance if you can as some of the ticket machines at the stations can be tempramental. Had a great holiday and would highly recommend to others. Can't wait to return.

5 star accommodation, in a superb location

  • 5 of 5

Our last night of a wonderful fortnight, and we wish it was not ending. Leysin is best known as a ski resort, but it also makes an ideal location for touring, walking, or just enjoying the peace and tranquility of Switzerland in the summer, and Chalet le Murier is the perfect base.

We are four couples in four classic Triumph cars, and we choose somewhere different in Europe every year, and we can say that this has been our best holiday yet.

Leysin is big enough to have all the facilities you could need, with three supermarkets, a pharmacy, three garages, and several restaurants. But it is still so quiet and peaceful. It is also perfectly placed for touring western Switzerland, with Montreux, Lake Geneva, Lausanne, the St Bernard Pass, Gruyeres and Gstaad all within an hour’s drive. It can also be reached by train from Geneva airport via Aigle, then its own mountain railway to the centre of the village.

Chalet Murier is 5-star accommodation. It was built in 2007 and is superbly appointed. It has four double bedrooms, all with en-suite shower or bathrooms, and all with views of the mountains. One bedroom also has twin bunks, and the chalet will comfortably take ten people plus a couple of guests for dinner.

The kitchen is a chef's delight, with every utensil you could need, and thoughtfully all the spices and condiments you want, without having to go out and buy your own. All linen and towels are provided, and even a full range of toiletries in every bathroom.

It's location is superb, with magnificent views over the valley to the mountains beyond. The view is ever changing, as the sun lights up the peaks, and the clouds roll up the valley or pass overhead. The bedrooms and balcony are south facing, and the aspect changes throughout the day, with views as far as the French alps. We spent hours just sitting here relaxing.

The area is surrounded by walks for all abilities. Or you can take the cable car up to the Kuklos revolving restaurant to experience the full panorama.

If you are looking for drives, we recommend the Col de Mosse and the Col de Croix, plus Gruyeres, the St Bernard Pass, and Caux for views over Lake Geneva. Also buy the One-day travel pass from Leysin station, and then take the cog railway down to Aigle, the railway to Les Diableretes and back, then the steamer cruise from Montreux. All for 39 Chf. A bargain.

If you want any more suggestions we would be happy to help.

Home from home

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with a group of friends in March. It was my first time skiing and the slopes were fantastic. This chalet is a wonderful retreat after a day on the slopes. We even spent a day in the chalet playing many of the board games provided. It has a warm homely feel and very comfortable. Outstanding views and very well situated to local amenities. I hope to return.
