August 2011 HHI
Review Submitted: August 24, 2011
Date of Stay: August 2011
My wife, son(16yrs) and I stayed at this unit from 8/13 to 8/22. It was even better than described. The unit is very clean, orderly and well equipped. It is located as close to the large pool as any other unit in the complex. Additionally, it is located near one of the auxiliary gates which makes getting to & from the beach and bike paths very convenient.
Fiddler's Cove is a perfect location if you like to walk the beach because you can head south and get a feel for the typical HHI beach ... but even better, you can head north by northwest and have a view of the beautiful Port Royal Sound.
We rented bikes for the week(very inexpensive) and used the bikes to transport our selves to & from the beach ... riding the bikes on the beach is fantastic. For exercise, we rode our bikes and walked all around HHI since the trails take you just about anywhere you want to go.
One day, went to the beach and lighthouse at Hunting Island, which is about 1 hour away. The beach is uncroweded and pristine in that the palmettos and pines come right up to the surf. Another day we went to the beautiful and historic town of Beaufort(45 minutes away) to visit the shops and have a late afternoon lunch on the waterfront at "Q on the Bay" ... fantastic barbeque.
There are plenty of places to eat and grocery stores.
For water sports, head to Palmetto Bay Marina. They have dolphin tours, boat rentals, waverunners, etc. Twice, we rented waverunners and took the guided trip out to Calibogue Sound where you're able to run wide open in an area that is about 2 miles long x 1 mile long.
All in all, it was a great vacation!
