What makes this apartment unique
Calheta is Madeira’s largest municipality measuring around 116 square Kilometres that correspond to 15% of the island surface.
Situated between the south and the far-west of the island, Calheta has 8 parishes: Arco da Calheta, Calheta, Estreito da Calheta, Jardim do Mar, Paúl do Mar, Prazeres, Fajã da Ovelha e Ponta do Pargo.
Founded in 1430 Calheta is one of the island’s most ancient parishes and it was one of the first ones to be explored by the early colonizers. This was the place chosen by João Gonçalves Zarco (Madeira’s discoverer) to make large land donations to his children João Gonçalves da Câmara e D. Beatriz Gonçalves.
Calheta became a village 72 years after its foundation, the 1st of July of 1502, through a royal Charter signed by D. Manuel I.
Embraced home of several Noblemen and Knights, the region pays them tribute perpetuating their names in Lombo do Doutor and Lombo do Atouguia.
At a 25 m from Funchal and 40m from the airport, Calheta has become over the years a Hot favourite between our visitors The reasons are Obvious!!!!
