Old Schoolhouse lovingly renovated 3 bedrooms large living room glorious!

Kildavannan Schoolhouse is a spacious 3 bedroom cottage situated on the Western side of the Isle of Bute. This cottage has recently been lovingly renovated to a very high standards with new appliances, heating, bathrooms and luxurious fabrics and colours making it incredibly warm and comfortable. The views are southerly over the sea and the situation is absolutely stunning and extremely desirable. The cottage is available to rent directly from the owner and it is much more of a 'home' than a 'rental cottage' filled with the comforts you would expect.

The Isle of Bute is easy to get to via Glasgow a short 35 minute ferry ride takes you to the capital Rothesay. Ferry times can be found by calling 01475 520521 or Rothesay 01700 502707.

The Isle of Bute offers many attractions including Mount Stuart and The Waverley Steam Ship, Rothesay Castle and the Pavillion. But is a haven for walkers and lovers of beaches and wildlife, fishing, exploring and generally relaxing.

A short shared driveway leads you up to a small gate through which you will find Kildavannan Schoolhouse and garden. The downstairs consists of a large living area with a window seat, television (freeview satellite) and fireplace. Fabrics such as colefax and fowler adorn the cushions, blinds and window seat and a handmade leather chair sits beside a very large sofa which will comfortably seat 6 adults. There is a conservatory with more beautiful views that seats four comfortably and can get extremely warm in the daytime. A large window opens up onto the lawn as does a door.

A recent review from a guest (before I became a member of this site!): We have just returned after spending two weeks at the School House on our honeymoon. The house is by far the best we've ever stayed in and has enough personal artifacts in to make it feel homely. It's huge living room and conservatory give you enough space to entertain yourself should the weather turn bad and the windows, in our opinion, have the best view on the whole island. As Etterick Bay and a smaller beach are so close it meant my 2 1/2 yr old was only ever 5 minutes from throwing pebbles into the sea! Without a doubt a home from home but with much better linen!! We hope to return in the near future.

The views are southerly over the sea and the situation is absolutely stunning and extremely desirable. The cottage is available to rent directly from the owner and it is much more of a 'home' than a 'rental cottage' filled with the comforts you would expect.

We are not ON the beach but the sea is a small field away, a quiet stony beach is a 3 minute walk away and the views are all of the sea...and islands beyond.

The Isle of Bute is easy to get to via Glasgow. About 30 minutes from the airport, a short 35 minute ferry ride takes you to the main town of Rothesay. Ferry times can be found by calling 01475 520521 or Rothesay 01700 502707.

  • 50% on booking. 50% 3 weeks before stay. Deposit of £150 fully refundable on check of property after clients leave - unless there is a problem. Many thanks :) £5 per night per dog (or cat or other animal!) Our housekeeper sets the property up to a very high standard and is available to shop for you or get any reasonable supplies but this must be settled with her directly and in cash when you arrive.

  • All are recently renovated to a very high standard with lovely tiles and under heating lino upstairs - warm, great radiators, hot water - the bath upstairs is a little slow at filling due to water pressure - the downstairs shower water pressure is fantastic!

  • Master and kids bedrooms share a lovely bathroom with bath, sink, loo etc. Kids bedroom does sleep adults comfortably - however if you pull the truckle beds (single mattresses below single beds) out - there is not a lot of floor space! Downstairs is an extra large shower room and loo - which we use for washing kids/dogs etc and is a great shower for grown ups! The downstairs bedroom is very lovely large bed with small ensuite shower, loo and sink. As this home is our second home I have ensured that all the bedding is of the best standard - it was not 'designed' to be a 'rental' cottage, it is designed to be a home..

Situated at Etterick Bay the cottage was ideally placed for some of the best views on the entire Island looking across to Inchmarrnok and Aaron a photo could not do this view justice. Night time was equally as spectacular with a stunning milky way and a couple of lighthouses flashing far out at sea.
The cottage was immaculately clean and well presented with everything you could possibly need when it comes to chilling out and relaxing. It provided a great base to explore the island and was a pleasure to return to after long walks on the beaches or further away trips. Having 2 showers and a further bathroom meant our 3 teenagers didn't fight over who was going first....total bliss. Another major bonus was the tea room on Etterick Bay (10 mins walk) not only do they provide a range of hot/cold foods as well as drinks but the cakes were truly scrummy!
This cottage was not impersonal but a home away from home a very relaxing place which we have already recommended to friends.
PS: If you plan to visit Mount Stewart phone ahead so you can book to see extra parts of the house that you cannot get access to without booking.
