Overview

Isle of Bute & Cowal Peninsula Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Old Schoolhouse lovingly renovated 3 bedrooms large living room glorious!

Kildavannan Schoolhouse is a spacious 3 bedroom cottage situated on the Western side of the Isle of Bute. This cottage has recently been lovingly renovated to a very high standards with new appliances, heating, bathrooms and luxurious fabrics and colours making it incredibly warm and comfortable. The views are southerly over the sea and the situation is absolutely stunning and extremely desirable. The cottage is available to rent directly from the owner and it is much more of a 'home' than a 'rental cottage' filled with the comforts you would expect.

The Isle of Bute is easy to get to via Glasgow a short 35 minute ferry ride takes you to the capital Rothesay. Ferry times can be found by calling 01475 520521 or Rothesay 01700 502707.

The Isle of Bute offers many attractions including Mount Stuart and The Waverley Steam Ship, Rothesay Castle and the Pavillion. But is a haven for walkers and lovers of beaches and wildlife, fishing, exploring and generally relaxing.

A short shared driveway leads you up to a small gate through which you will find Kildavannan Schoolhouse and garden. The downstairs consists of a large living area with a window seat, television (freeview satellite) and fireplace. Fabrics such as colefax and fowler adorn the cushions, blinds and window seat and a handmade leather chair sits beside a very large sofa which will comfortably seat 6 adults. There is a conservatory with more beautiful views that seats four comfortably and can get extremely warm in the daytime. A large window opens up onto the lawn as does a door.

A recent review from a guest (before I became a member of this site!): We have just returned after spending two weeks at the School House on our honeymoon. The house is by far the best we've ever stayed in and has enough personal artifacts in to make it feel homely. It's huge living room and conservatory give you enough space to entertain yourself should the weather turn bad and the windows, in our opinion, have the best view on the whole island. As Etterick Bay and a smaller beach are so close it meant my 2 1/2 yr old was only ever 5 minutes from throwing pebbles into the sea! Without a doubt a home from home but with much better linen!! We hope to return in the near future.

Welcoming, cosy and tranquil with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

Kildavannan Schoolhouse has to be one of the most idyllic places to stay. The cottage itself is beautiful and very comfortably furnished with just the perfect mix of the contemporary and the practical.

It's location is just perfect for all ages, along a quiet little road with only about five other properties and with the most fantastic views across to the Isle of Arran and a gorgeous beach practically on its doorstep. I just love it and would unhesitatingly recommend the cottage to all.

The island itself has everything from lovely beaches, interesting flora and fauna, fantastic walks and cycle rides, plenty of history and very easy access.

When we stayed last July the age span was from 3 years to 74 years and it was excellent!!!

Kildavannan is perfect

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is a perfect for a relaxing get-away nestled by the sea and surrounded by green landscapes. It's well maintained and beautifully kept and the kitchen is well equipped and we especially liked the rotisserie in the oven. It's great just to relax but was perfectly placed for me as I went sea-kayaking, diving and cycling straight from the front door. A great place to mix luxury, rest and adventure.

The most idyllic, beautiful place to be

  • 5 of 5

We had the most wonderful time staying at Kildavannan School House.

The house is beautiful, situated in the most idyllic location & equipped with everything you could possibly need.

The views are stunning, looking out to sea & beyond from pretty much anywhere in the house! We felt like we were at the end of the world. So peaceful & the memory of the view sitting in the window seat in the lounge will never leave us.

Everything about the house screams comfort. The bedding, the bed, the sofa. Everything! Just wonderful.

We went in February so prepared ourselves for cold weather. It was a fantastic time to go. We all wrapped up warm & the children (6 & 3 years old) loved nothing more than collecting shells on the beach & flying the kite that we found in the shed! Then to Ettrick Bay tearooms for warming up & delicious homemade cakes (the lemon meringue cheesecake is something I am now going to try & recreate!), back to the house to light the log fire & settle down.

There is so much to do on the island. We visited Mount Stuart & walked for hours through the woodland & beautiful gardens, did a family horse/ pony trek, visited Scalpsie Bay & much, much more. But equally you don't need to fill your time with things to do when all you have to do is walk out of the front door & walk & take in the stunning scenery.

We couldn't recommend the house or the Isle of Bute highly enough. It was an amazing week of relaxation for the whole family. We adored every minute of it. And we are already plotting when we can return!

Kildavannan Schoolhouse

Situated at Etterick Bay the cottage was ideally placed for some of the best views on the entire Island looking across to Inchmarrnok and Aaron a photo could not do this view justice. Night time was equally as spectacular with a stunning milky way and a couple of lighthouses flashing far out at sea.

The cottage was immaculately clean and well presented with everything you could possibly need when it comes to chilling out and relaxing. It provided a great base to explore the island and was a pleasure to return to after long walks on the beaches or further away trips. Having 2 showers and a further bathroom meant our 3 teenagers didn't fight over who was going first....total bliss. Another major bonus was the tea room on Etterick Bay (10 mins walk) not only do they provide a range of hot/cold foods as well as drinks but the cakes were truly scrummy!

This cottage was not impersonal but a home away from home a very relaxing place which we have already recommended to friends.

PS: If you plan to visit Mount Stewart phone ahead so you can book to see extra parts of the house that you cannot get access to without booking.

Bute-iful

  • 5 of 5

Don't go there.....if you want an active outdoor holiday. You're bound to not leave the house, but just sit in the bay window to stare at the breathtaking views! That is: if you manage to get that far in the morning. The beds are so comfortable, you might just not want to get up!

The best house we have ever stayed in. The house is very comfortable, immaculate and tastefully decorated, containing everything you could possibly need - even binoculars to get a sharper look of the gannets diving into the sea.

The setting is stunning with panoramic views that include Arran and uninhabited Inchmarnock.

Bute is Bute-iful, too. Compact, great for walking and cycling with lots of deserted beaches (and lots of seals at Scalpsie Bay). And do go out to do the best walk on the island, the Kilchattan Bay Circular. Stunning scenery all the way round! While you are there: have tea at the Kilchattan Bay post office cum tearoom, run by a very friendly and enthusiastic young couple.

A big thanks to accommodating owner of the house Abigail and her fabulous help Una!!

Wunderschönes Cottage mit herrlicher Aussicht

  • 5 of 5

DANKE :-)

Thomas, Claudia, Nils und Finn

We are not ON the beach but the sea is a small field away, a quiet stony beach is a 3 minute walk away and the views are all of the sea...and islands beyond.
