Auchterarder, Gleneagles and The Ochils Cottage Rental Photos and Description

5 star luxury 2 bedroom private Retreat with spectacular views - Tennis,Fishing

This award-winning VisitScotland 5 star holiday Retreat is reached by private access and is surrounded by the beautiful landscape of Trinity Gask Estate with its private woodlands, ponds and fishing beats on the River Earn. With stunning open views south over the Strathearn Valley, this cottage has been lovingly restored and successfully marries the charm of a traditional stone house with the best progressive eco-build practices. Relax and enjoy the benefits of sleeping in a breathable, allergy free house with solid oak wooden floors and underfloor heating.

Guests at the Retreat are able to enjoy the use of a new astro tennis court which is located close to the cottage and also benefit from free access to three beats on the River Earn (a short distance from the cottage door).

The interior of this special cottage is simple, fresh and contemporary. There is a large, high-ceilinged, open-plan kitchen/living area with a stylish contemporary kitchen complete with a dining table for 8. In the living area, large comfortable leather sofas are perfect for stretching out on in front of the open fire.

There are two spacious bedrooms: the double has two windows with views west (perfect for evening sun) towards woodlands and Ben Vorlich. The super king bed is extremely comfortable and is made up with crisp Egyptian cotton linen. Both bedrooms have more than ample hanging and shelf space and come with hair-dryers. The twin room is high-ceilinged and extremely bright, 2 east and 1 south, windows provide uninterrupted views across the valley. The bathroom has a big doubled ended bath, separate walk in shower and is stocked with organic shampoo, conditioner, soap and body lotion.

Adjacent to the back door is a separate outhouse/utility room, which is the perfect washing and drying room. There is a large stainless steel sink, washing machine, plenty of cupboard and hanging space, an overhead pulley and underfloor heating. Spacious, airy and warm, it is the ideal place for pets to sleep when they are not in the garden. Please note that, due to our allergy free status, pets are not allowed in the house at any time.

Guests at the Retreat can enjoy playing tennis on a new astro/artificial grass tennis court. The court is a short distance from the cottage and has the same stunning views across the Strathearn Valley. See photo gallery for a photograph of the beautiful court.

For your entertainment there is a 37' HD flat screen TV, DVD, Ipod docking station and CD/radio player and a karaoke machine! There is a good selection of games and an abundance of touring, walking and cycling maps as well as interesting books on Scottish wildlife, history and culture.

The Retreat is the perfect location for a holiday cottage in Perthshire, quiet and secluded with amazing views over the Strathearn valley, yet only 10 mins from Auchterarder and the Gleneagles Hotel Resort and golf courses. Glenturret whisky distillery, Drummond Castle Gardens and Crieff are 15mins from the cottage. The city of Perth, Scone Palace, Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument are all easily accessible in under 30mins as is Loch Tay and the Scottish Highlands. The capital city of Edinburgh and Scotland's largest city, Glasgow are both reached within an hour, making the Retreat the ideal base for a holiday in Scotland.

About Lisa Roberts

Lisa Roberts owns and manages the Retreat. Lisa lives on the Estate with her four children and husband, Jamie, who farms the surrounding agricultural land and manages the fishing and woodlands. The Retreat is their first holiday property on the Estate. They run a number of other successful long term let properties and wanted to give visitors from both the UK and overseas the opportunity to sample Scotland's wonderful rural life - somewhere they could come to relax, unwind and enjoy their beautiful surroundings. Lisa used to run a tourism business out of the five star Gleneagles Hotel so is very familiar with the local area; the Retreat has a wealth of information for visitors to help plan their excursions as well as recommendations for dining in the area. Both Jamie and Lisa are sociable and well travelled and enjoy meeting the many visitors who come from all over the world to visit this special Retreat in a beautiful area of Perthshire.

Lisa Roberts purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Lisa Roberts chose Auchterarder, Gleneagles and The Ochils

We decided to renovate this particular property and turn it into a holiday let because it has the perfect location for a holiday in Scotland - very private with stunning views in all directions and yet 10 mins from local shops and Crieff with the gateway to the Highlands on the door step.

What makes this cottage unique

The Retreat is an award-winning property and has a large number of repeat visitors because it is a beautiful and very comfortable house in which to relax. The location is stunning, without stepping in a car, visitors can enjoy many walks through the woodlands and along the River Earn, where they can see fish jumping, deer, pheasant, partridge and red squirrels crossing woodland trails and birds of prey soaring overhead.

Guests cam enjoy the use of a new astro tennis court and also free fishing on the River Earn.

The Retreat is also incredibly romantic. Couples come back time and time again to enjoy quality time together, having the UK's best restaurant 10 mins away is also a bonus!

As a result, we have had many engagements happening at the cottage... both planned and unplanned!!

What a find! After spending hours looking at various self-catering holiday cottage options in the auchterarder area, we hit the jackpot with the Retreat!

It started with a warm welcome from the owner, Lisa, the log fire was roaring and tea and cake were set out for our arrival. The cottage was much larger than expected, immaculate and very cosy - we loved the oak flooring and underfloor heating. The location is a real bonus with fantastic views across the whole valley and is totally private. It was the perfect place to chill out and relax, undisturbed. We brought our dogs who slept in the drying room (also with underfloor heating), there is a very big, flat grass garden around the cottage which is fenced, so our Lab and Terrier had lots of room to roam free when they came back from our walks along the river and through the woodlands. There are a lot of good restaurants within 15 mins ( very informative house notes with helpful recommendations). We enjoyed a lovely meal out but preferred to stay at the cottage with the fire on and watching the wild weather moving across the valley. Very sad to have to leave this haven but already looking forward to revisiting as soon as we can, we couldn't recommend it more highly, to anyone!

Peace and quiet in a wonderful setting

  • 5 of 5

We arrived on a wet and windy day to find a lovely warm cottage, log fire burning and every amenity exactly as detailed in the listing description. Lisa was very attentive and we would not hesitate to recommend the cottage to a friend. We are familiar with the area so we visited Gleneagles, Café Taboo in Perth and played golf at Muthill.

Golfer's paradise

  • 5 of 5

I booked The Retreat with a view to surprising my fiancé whom adores his golf.

The splendour of the courses at St Andrew's and Gleneagles were matched by the location of the cottage, with its stunning views.

As for the thoughtfulness of our host in strategically placing some brightly coloured tulips in various of the rooms, for bringing spring indoors with a pot of growing narcissi, and for taking the trouble to lay the table for tea and organise groceries for breakfast, these actions demonstrated the same sort of courtesy and attention to detail that I had experienced at the enquiry and booking stages.

Our host, although we never met her during our brief sojourn, seemed to us to be as charming as The Retreat itself.

We would highly recommend The Retreat as a venue for golfers, for a weekend or indeed for a longer stay, as the area is peppered with marvellous, historic courses and the cottage itself is faultless.

my 40th birthday retreat.

  • 5 of 5

A very warm welcome with a roaring open fire on a cold march evening made the start to my birthday weekend even more special. The retreat cottage is just what it says, a retreat away from everyday life to relax and unwind, with beautiful scenery across the hills and the wildlife in the next field while Waking up to rainbows in the sky. My family and I really enjoyed out weekend and I can honestly say the retreat is more than 5 stars with the facilities and entertainment it offers. The cottage was well maintained and spotlessly clean with warm floors to walk on, we cant wait to return for another weekend break away.

A gem, I wish I could move in permanently!

  • 5 of 5

Just back from our second visit to The Retreat (Our first being in 2009) and the cottage is still as beautiful as I remembered, I really can't recommend this place highly enough!

The owner, Lisa is so welcoming and thoughtful, we arrived to a roaring log fire, lit candles and tea and biscuits, perfect after a long drive on a freezing cold January day.

The Retreat is spotless, spacious and tastefully furnished, the bed is so comfortable and the underfloor heating means its always warm and cosy. Its well equipped too, a real home from home, with plenty of logs for the fire and lots of thoughtful touches such as local guides, DVDs and games. The location is pretty spectacular too with stunning views all around.

The owners have done a fantastic job with The Retreat and Lisa was kind enough to show us the second cottage that has just opened, I cant wait to stay there!

Like coming home

It was our third stay at retreat (and not the last), and it's always amazing.

The view, the wind and weather, the lovely people and just everything. If there is a time, that we need to leave Germany, we know were to settle down (if the owners made an arrangment with us :-)))

Perfect luxury hideaway in beautiful Perthshire

  • 5 of 5

This was our fifth stay at The Retreat and evey time we come we love it more. The cottage is lovely and luxurious, really comfortable and airy or cosy depending on the time of year! Lisa and Jamie have thought of and included everything you could possibly need in the cottage and the attention to detail and care taken, fresh flowers and homemade cakes on arrival for example, is fantastic and they, and Pam the housekeeper, always look after us really well. The view and surrounding countryside is amazing and it is such a peaceful place (once our kids have gone to bed!), but with the hustle and bustle of Perth, Crieff etc nearby when needed. A 5 star place and a 5 star holiday. We will back again next year!
