Perched just thirty feet over the ocean, this tastefully decorated apartment - which is actually the first floor of a two-story house - has the feel of being on a yacht (the owners are husband and wife and worked in the yachting world for many years).

Situated on Tropaco Point on St.Thomas'northside, overlooking Hull Bay,with views extending to the south, west and north, Hidden Cove is a breath-taking, special place for those searching for something out of the ordinary.

From your off-street parking area, a private entrance leads down a staircase to a lighted garden path and your 'land yacht.' Everything you need awaits. A slim, covered deck fronts the length of the apartment with a larger,open area for dining. You can easily while away time watching surfers, clouds, pelicans diving, sugar birds flitting about and the sea. Sleep to the sound of the surf in the mahogany, queen-size sleigh bed. Ample storage space is provided by a closet, antique armoire and bureau.

Sip your morning beverage at the dining table or outside on the deck under the umbrella. Relax in the attractive sitting area and watch cable TV, a DVD, read, nap or listen to music. Terra cotta tiles and ceiling fans throughout are cooling and comforting.

In the sumptuous bath you shower on river-stones while gazing out to sea. The kitchen meets any chef's requirements with gas range, microwave, Cuisinart cookware---everything you need to make a meal, large or small. If you enjoy cooking, this 'galley' could inspire you.

Stone steps wind down through the terraced half-acre property and end at the 'hidden cove.' Halfway down the steps sit two large wooden decks---one for shade, one for sun. Once at the cove, surf conditions permitting, you can climb down the rocks into waist-high water to swim or snorkel on the reef and beyond. Some of the best snorkeling in St. Thomas lies just beneath your hideaway.

Hull Bay beach, less than a mile away, provides an invigorating ten-minute walk or a three-minute drive. Well known Magens Bay, just to the east, is about a 15-minute drive. We provide beach towels,chairs,beach bags,cooler and snorkel gear ...just bring your swim suits.

We will meet you at the airport and lead you to the property. A complimentary bottle of Cruzan rum, and bottled water, for the length of your stay, are provided as well.

Joe has called St. Thomas home for over 25 years. Mary,his wife, is new to the island. They love living on the Northside of the island! Joe,having been in the charter boat business for many years ,loves sharing the property with those visiting for the first time or those returning to the beauty of Hull Bay. Mary is just learning the ropes and enjoying all their is to learn about living on an island.

This is a very clean and well maintained property. It is perfect for a single person or a couple. A great little kitchen with all you need to prepare your own island inspired meals. World class restaurant nearby (Northside Bistro)and a great beach restaurant (Hull Bay Hideaway) as well. The owner (Joe) is honest, helpful and he will meet you at your car rental and show you the way to the Cove. Joe will be there as little or as much as you want for advice. We wanted time away from everyone and Joe understood this and allowed us to just enjoy his great property on our own. Surf conditions at Hull Bay are usually a little rough, but despite this the snorkeling off of this property can be great. I spotted a sea turtle, tarpon and many reef fish. SCUBA can be done, but surge will be strong and really not worth attempting at this location. Just take a short drive to Red Hook Dive Center and they will get you diving. I highly recommend this property.

Babymoon in Paradise

We had an amazing week at Hidden Cove on our "babymoon", soaking up the sea air, the sunshine (with a few major rainstorms in between), and the sand before our little one arrives in June. Joe was a gracious host, meeting us at the airport, showing us around his island, and answering all our questions. We were even supplied with some non-DEET bug spray for me (the pregnant one) which was essential!

We'd never been to St Thomas before, so exploring the island was a must for us. It felt so great to have a base as wonderful as this little hidden home - in such beautiful surroundings, it felt like such a luxury coming back at the end of every day.

Navigating the bumpy roads was tricky but not impossible... we certainly used the maps on our iphones to death on this trip to get around the island! But we didn't need to go far for some of our favorite days on the island. The house had everything we needed (beach chairs, beach towels, snorkels & flippers, cooler bag) and the kitchen was perfectly stocked. Felt so fancy making dinner one night using a Le Creuset pan!

Hull Bay provided a good workout walking up and down those hills to and from the beach (only a couple of times) and being close to Magens Bay was a bonus too (when the cruise crowds were minimal). We also loved Lindquist and Secret Harbour beaches (before it started to rain!) - Coki was our absolute favorite, but, again, got way overcrowded between about noon and 3 when the cruisers took over.

Dinners out were at Northside Bistro and Blue Orchid. Both highly recommended and delicious!

Breakfasts were always eaten on the deck, looking out over the water, hearing the waves crash, watching pelicans dive, and spotting iguanas all over the place. Such a special place... we'll never forget it!

And yes, the shower was heavenly! Especially showering during a beautiful sunset, like on our last night on St Thomas... what a way to end the vacation!

Absolutely heaven

If you like to fall asleep listening to the waves or see the turquoise water from the bed or the twinkling lights across the bay at night, this place is for you. It is located on the quiet northside of the island but there are some fabulous restaurants close by. Charlotte Amalie is just 15 minutes away. Joe and his wife have thought of every convenience that a traveler might want or need. This is the second time that my husband and I have stayed at this particular property and we'd like to make it an annual event. Try it, we guarantee you'll love it too! Oh, and say hi to Joe for us.

No Cruzin Rum For Us

Great Water View. Great outdoor space. Hidden Cove is the lower level of a private home. The owner lives in the main level. The space is small but fine for two people. It has a small kitchen, not the best if you are planning on preparing meals. You get one bath towel per person per week, which was surprising. We didn't feel we should have to ask for extra towels. They did provide several beach towels. The living room couch was very uncomfortable. Overall, a decent place, but not real private, with the owner right above you. We did not get a welcome bottle of Cruzin Rum! We were given a small amount of bottled water. The best part about Hidden Cove, is the outdoor space. The apartment needs updating.

Honeymoon off the beaten path!

My wife and I were excited to begin our honeymoon after leaving dreary Houston behind. Capt Joe met us at the airport where we picked up our rental Jeep and followed him over his super secret route in the dark to the hideaway. He was quick to show us all the ins and outs of the place so we could sleep off our travel day. We were met with a comfy bed and the sounds of surf crashing to lull us to sleep (and awake at times!). First morning I made coffee and enjoyed the sunup over the gorgeous vista of Hull Bay. Joe was quick with suggestions on food or answers about directions; the best of which was to call a local masseur he knew. He came out after our first day of exploring and beach combing. Setting up in the afternoon on one of the lower garden terrace decks, it was a perfect way to start our honeymoon off properly. Sunset, the waves, the iguanas, the garden. Heaven! By the 3rd night, we grew accustomed to the surf roaring us to sleep, even if we never got used to the bugs. They weren't horrible; just noticeable. Bring some odor free stuff and you'll be fine. The open view in the shower is a little exposed feeling at first, but awesome once you realize you're all alone!

Joe was a most wonderful host who was always at the ready with a suggestion, directions, or any other island trivia I bothered him with. He makes for a nice dinner company as well. Try the food at the Hull Bay Bar; doesn't seem like much at a glance, but hands down the best fish taco I've had! The island taxi trucks don't come to Hull Bay as far as I could tell, so renting transportation is a must. The upside of Hull Bay being OFF the beaten path is the beach belongs to you and the other locals; free from the truckloads of booze cruisers. Great snorkeling in the bay as well, and there's also a paddle surf shop on the beach as well.

All in all we highly recommend this over the resort route. Being off the path is how my wife and I prefer to travel, and Joe's place was fantastic for our needs- a place to clean up, relax, and recharge for the next day. It fits well inside the most frugal budget while being comfortable. I really enjoyed sitting on the deck eating lunch with the birds or smoking a cigar. The terraced garden was beautiful and the views was addictive. Hull Bay, we miss ya! Thanks, Joe!
