About Joe

We are a family of 5 living in the centre of Dublin & we love our weekends in 'Oban sur la mer', our haven of tranquility which we share with you. A great hangout for the larger family gatherings - just 50 mins from Dublin but it seems like it's another world.

Scenic Seaside Vacation Beach Cottage nestling in historic mountain setting with great golf courses close to hand. For more information & photos go to www.brittasbayholiday.wordpress.com

Just a few kms from 8th century monastic ruins at Glendalough, where mountains & waterfalls combine to deliver a spiritual tranquillity. Where Excalibur, The Tudors & Braveheart are just some of the movies shot against beautiful mountain scenery.

A private sandy beach shared with just one other house, makes seaside walks, sea angling, surfing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing & all water sports, an easy everyday option for all the family.

Revel in Shirley's home baking available from 'An Cisean Aran' (the bread basket) in Arklow for the farm fresh food for which Wicklow, 'The Garden of Ireland', is famous. Step back in time to Hunter's Hotel in Rathnew, an old stage coach inn now famous for its afternoon tea of cucumber sandwiches & cake on the lawn. For a more formal quality dining experience, the Park restaurant in Arklow is highly recommended.

And there is Eddie Rockets in Arklow Bridgewater Shopping Centre for the classic kids experience, following the late morning movie where there is always a deal on the early kids movie.

Nearby the Arklow Bay Spa and Leisure Centre, provides a swimming pool and all gym facilities.

Golf is hugely popular with the world famous European Club just 2 kms away; Woodenbridge, Arklow & Blainroe giving 3 more golfing challenges all within a half hour of the cottage.

Historic houses & sites including Russborough which housed the famous Beit art collection, Kilruddery, Mount Usher & Powerscourt (now home to a five star hotel & luxury Rhodes restaurant), are all easily accessible, less than an hour from the cottage.

For a night at the theatre, a concert at the Point or the RDS, or attending a football, rugby or hurling match at either of Ireland's world class stadiums in Croke Park or the Aviva, the heart of Dublin city is just an hour away. Or visit the Gate, the Abbey, the Tivoli, the Gaiety or any of Dublin's world renowned theatres for an unforgettable the Spain experience.

Take a tour of 2 of Ireland's best known breweries/distilleries, Guinness & Jameson, located in the centre of Dublin, & sample the 'craic' in Dublin's music filled pubs.

Horse racing, riding & horse shows, fill the Irish sporting calender & are readily available throughout the whole area - from the neighbouring Seabank equestrian farm, you will often see horses being exercised outside your door.

Shopping on your doorstep just 3kms away in the state of the art Bridgewater Centre, with a range of well known brands & fashion items to hand, as well as drop in cafes & entertainments for the kids.

Relax in front of a blazing fire, with the beach-combed wood freshly cut for your convenience & take in the moon spilling its golden light across the sea & into your living room.

Perfect for a short break!

This is the perfect accommodation for a short break with your family and/or friends (we enjoyed the house for a couple nights with some friends). The house is beautiful located right at a semi private beach with a great terrace to enjoy the sun and the ocean view. The house is nicely decorated and very spacious. You will find all the things you need, from a fully fitted kitchen to a nice fireplace.

The booking process was very quick and easy, and Joe (owner of the house) really made sure that we had a great time. E.g. everything was well organized, and fresh bread and a bottle of wine were waiting on the kitchen counter…

With just one hour outside of Dublin I would definitely recommend the accommodation for a nice getaway, and we will probably be back in the future.
Owner's Response: Glad you all had a good time Jorit & look forward to seeing you back soon.

Oban, we will miss you!

A few short days in the countryside, was the perfect break from our Dublin vacation. Oban sur la mer was the perfect setting.

From Liam and Frances warm welcome, to the hours our children spent collecting shells on the beach, Oban we will miss you.

Open fires every evening, the football table, terrific family dinners. Oban we will miss you.

Skipping rocks on the Irish Sea, buidling sand castles and enjoying the sound of the crashing waves. Oban we will miss you.

A morning run on the coast road, ''full Irish'' breakfasts and surprisingly sunny, warm days. Oban, we will miss you.

Oban was the ideal setting for our family to reconnect, unwind and recharge.

Thank you to Joe and his extended family from the D family in Toronto.

''Oban, we will miss you!''

Memorable, Lovely, Stunning......

I rented this lovely house called "Oban" for one week beginning Saturday 18th August, 2012.
We had a great holiday. The house is sophisticated, spacious and very well maintained. The owner is friendly and very helpful. There are fantastic sea views from most windows and you can hear the waves crashing into shore as you drift off to sleep at night. The house has a very comfortable vibe, with an open fire, sunny conservatory and nice outdoor deck. The back garden sweeps down to the sea and the house has its own pathway down to the beach.....
There is also a great kitchen if you like to cook for family and friends.....lots of good bathrooms, and a very light airy feel.....
I have a very busy professional life, with endless emails, texts, meetings, etc, etc. I stepped into this house and I felt all of that just melt away for a while....I used to read fiction every day as a teenager but as I got busier in my career I never really found the time to savour a good story.....well, five minutes after arriving in Oban, I picked up a good book and sat on the sunny deck, with the sounds of the sea, and the views out to sea, and I read and read...this house is the ULTIMATE "chill out" for all you stressed corporate types....wild flowers, sun glinting on the ocean, birds soaring over billowing trees and grass.....and--my personal favourite touch--an old wooden bench at the end of the garden under a giant apple tree misshapen by the sea breeze--situated with the best view out to sea as the ships sail by.....I am normally sparing with my praise....but you can't beat this house....words just spring to mind: memorable, pretty, lovely, stunning.....a special Summer place that you will want to come back and visit again and again....
Owner's Response: We're thrilled that you & your guests enjoyed the house & the location so much Stephen & we look forward to having you back again.

Best regards

Joe
