The ad stated one amount per week, we were charged another amount for the week plus a security deposit that was never refunded! The house emitted fumes-from a "down draft from the wind” we were told-where smoke came out of the fireplace and filled the rooms (flue open!) along with the presence of a burning oil smell and a smell that either was or just smelled like sewage!! We notified the owner and she told us that there was nothing that she could do about it and told us to open the windows! I had 3 very simple and laid back requirements for amenities/conveniences that I wanted for my vacation and I considered this property only because of it’s advertised access to these basic amenities that I wanted. They were: snowmobiling, as we came specifically to this area for that kind of recreation; a washer/dryer in the residence, as I have 3 children and would need to wash clothes and dry those that were wet from the snow; a DVD player because we like to watch family movies together in the evening. I ended up having none of these! The owner promised to "mark out" a snowmobile trail on her property for us to use to get to the ITS trail. She did not do it and penalized us for going on her property with the snowmobile and used this as one reason to keep our security deposit! The dryer ran cold air only and did not dry clothes. We had to use a Laundromat which was far away. We notified her and she said that she would have her "maintenance man" look at it (who never came-probably the same one who was supposed to remove the garbage while we were there and never showed)! This was probably something as simple as a pilot light out! Even though my husband believed it definitely was the pilot light as it was a gas dryer, she did not give us any instructions on how to re-light the pilot, and we did not want to start dealing with that (we are from Florida-everything here is electric and we are not used to that). She claimed that she had to have a “repairman” come and claimed this as another reason to keep our security deposit! The “repairman” should have come while we were there! The DVD player did not work according to unclear instructions. When we called to tell her about it, she seemed annoyed and did not try to help over the phone, nor did she offer to stop by to take a quick look at it even though she was only a couple miles away! We have used several other VRBO properties in the past with nothing but wonderful experiences and I am so unhappy to have to report otherwise!

Security deposits are returned within thirty-days of departure, unless terms of the executed rental agreement are violated.
