This waterfront cottage is located on crystal clear Green Lake in Ellsworth, Maine. The cottage is located in the sheltered Northeast Cove of the 7 1/2 mile long lake. You will enjoy spectacular sunsets & the fresh Maine air. Green Lake is renowned for its salmon, lake trout, and bass fishing. Walking and biking trails abound in the immediate area of the cottage. Well water is provided. Canoe and kayak rentals available. Come see & hear the loons and enjoy life on a Maine lake at its best. All for only $900/ week.
I try to visit this camp on Green Lake for a few days every year. It’s a great place to kick back and relax, away from all the noise and confusion of life in general. The natural setting is totally isolated from road noise but still close enough to be a great base for exploring the area.
The camp is clean and roomy and the owners are very accommodating, with good suggestions for local restaurants and points of interest. The well water is fresh and clear without the chemical taste often found in city water. My children have loved bringing their friends along - the upstairs sleeping area gives them their own space.
It's deep water swimming only so no danger when diving or jumping off the dock. With tubes, "noodles", or life jackets my children spend hours in the lake.
I’ve taken many beautiful sunset pictures here and I especially like falling asleep to the sound of loons on the lake. Whether I’m sunbathing on the balcony or dock or relaxing in the shade with a good book it is peaceful and enjoyable.
We enjoyed our stay at the Sawyer cottage very much. We had everything we needed there and would definately like to do it again next year. We would also recommend this place to anyone who might think about going to Maine and staying on Green Lake.
We stayed in the cabin July 2008 and found it very well appointed. The kitchen and bathroom were stocked with all our needs. It was VERY clean which you don't always find. The view from the camp is just gorgeous! The owners provided a list of their favorite restaurants which was nice. Couple things which the owner will make you aware of during the rental process:
*There is parking for two cars at most
*The camp is over 40 steps from the lake. The steps are lighted but difficult if you are taking kayaks or canoes down. If you have small children this would not be ideal.
*The upstairs loft is rough walls and flooring. Serves its purpose but something to keep in mind with children.
*Like many camps in Maine it is a good ways off the highway/main roads.
The only "con" we found was the linens and towels. They were very old and threadbare. For the price I would expect more than a few beach towels in the bathroom. The owners were very accomodating so perhaps they will remedy this soon.
