Worst place I have ever stayed
We have traveled extensively and stayed in hotels and vrbo rentals around the world and had many wonderful experiences. We had a family reunion here July 28 - August 4. The place is old, musty and damp. Bed springs are broken, lamps are broken, stair railings are broken. The refrigerator did not work at all and we waited 4 days for a new one. The pillows on the furniture actually smelled. The pond had foam on it. I wouldn't consider going in although the kids enjoyed swimming. The ladder rungs were almost broken so it was dangerous to get out of the water. Two of the bedrooms are in the basement. One has no windows. The windows in the other one were piled with bugs. So moldy and damp down there, a humidifier must be emptied regularly The place was truly disgusting. Couldn't wait to leave. Also, the place required a deposit. It was supposed to be returned after 30 days. My husband had to call twice and it was finally returned after 6 weeks.
Owner's Response: We have been renting vacation houses for 34 years and this house for 16 years. Nobody has ever taken off on us like this. It should be obvious that this is a retaliatory review and should be taken as such.
This house is a very nice house on a beautiful lake. We have 16 years of wonderful comments and notes from our renters. They have described the place as “wonderful”, “special”, and even “magical”
This renter’s comments are not true. The lake is pristine and very clean. It is spring/stream fed and is great for swimming, boating, and great fishing. The swim ladder is new and not broken. The house is cleaned professionally between renters and the comments about it are not accurate.
It should be noted that, other than the refrigerator, this renter did not mention any of this to us during their stay. If anything had been actually wrong, one would think that they would have notified us while they were there. Anything wrong would have been corrected if it actually existed.
Re: the refrigerator, the renters before these departed the house on Saturday morning. The refrigerator worked fine for them and they had no problems. They enjoyed the house very much. When these people checked in at noon, they called and said the refrigerator was not working. We spent some time on the phone with them trying different things (e.g. breakers, plugs, turning off/on, etc.) to try to get it to work. When it became obvious that it wasn’t going to work, we immediately did 2 things. First, we gave them the keys to our private apartment that is attached (we don’t live there) and told them to take our stuff out of our refrigerator and put all their stuff in and use the refrigerator and our apartment as they wished. We told them that we would reimburse them for anything that might not be able to be saved. Two of us then proceeded to get on the phone for two whole days on the weekend trying to find a new refrigerator that could be delivered quickly. We called everyone in the Northeast U.S., but, couldn’t get one there for a week. Even the locals didn’t have one. Late on Sunday night, we finally found one in NY that could be delivered Tuesday and it was. We hired local people to haul out the new one and bring in the new one. It was a miracle to get one that fast, but, apparently not fast enough for our renters who decided to punish us for not being fast enough.
We welcome anyone to visit and inspect our house at any time. You will realize what a great house and location it is.
