This lovely 4 bedroom chalet, which sleeps 8-10 people, is situated overlooking the village of Grimentz and just 200m from the piste. Given suitable snow conditions, a good skier can ski virtually into the back door.

It is 700 metres from the (free) ski bus stop which is then just a 5 minute drive to the main lift, or you can drive a few minutes and park at the station. The lift is open in summer for walkers and mountain bikers and in winter for skiers.

The chalet is fully furnished with a wall mounted TV with built in DVD, HI-FI and free internet access. The kitchen is fully fitted with modern appliances including oven, hob, dishwasher and fridge freezer.

4 bedrooms (3 double and 1 bunk bed room), 1 bathroom with a WC, 1 shower room with WC and a further shower room. There is a spacious open plan kitchen, and a huge dining and living area. Above this is a large mezzanine sleeping area.

There is also a balcony and terrace area with chairs, a table and a bbq

Introduction

Grimentz is one of the most beautiful and picturesque of the old Valaisan villages in the Val d’Anniviers. The area is found in the furthest east of the French speaking valleys in the canton of Valais (Wallis in German), situated around 2 hours from Geneva. Valais itself boasts the 10 highest mountains in Switzerland – all over 4,000m. The capital of Valais, Sion, is a delightful old city in the Rhone valley, which has numerous historic remains, including a 13th-century castle, a late Gothic cathedral and a 17th-century town hall. French is the principal language but English is widely understood.

Getting here

Grimentz is just over 2 hours from Geneva airport, and only 40 minutes from Sion Airport. There are excellent train links to Sierre, the nearest town, from numerous entry points into Switzerland, including Geneva airport. There is a bus service from Sierre to Grimentz, and taxis are readily available.

Winter

In winter, the free regular bus service starts at the end of the road and takes just a few minutes to transport you down to the main telecabine lift which then whisks you up to 2110m in a matter of minutes. From there, there are plenty of uncrowded pistes to enjoy with something to suit all levels from beginner to advanced. Your ski pass for Grimentz also covers the neighbouring villages of St Luc, Chandolin, Vercorin and Zinal, giving a total of 220km of piste skiing, plus a huge area of off piste to enjoy. A free shuttle bus operates throughout the ski season to link the other villages. Verbier is 90 minutes drive, and Crans Montana one hour.

Summer

In summer, Grimentz is transformed to a delightful green haven with an abundance of mountain walks to suit all levels, mountain biking, tennis and other outdoor sports. The Moiry glacier is 20 minutes drive, just above the large Moiry dam, which has cobalt blue waters. There is a weekly themed market in the village on a Friday during high season.

Anniviers Liberté pass 2012

This new pass entitles you to more than 20 free activities and transport in the region in summer. This includes lifts and cable cars, buses, swimming, tennis, mini golf and guided tours. This pass will be provided to you by our agents on your arrival and is INCLUDED in the price of your holiday rental.

Eating and Drinking

There are numerous hotels, bars and restaurants dotted around the village, with something to suit all tastes. Fondue and raclette are typical specialities served in a number of the establishments. If you fancy something a little different there is a British run company based in Grimentz who, amongst other things, will deliver home cooked food to your door ready for you to reheat at your convenience. They can also provide a complete drinks package for your holiday should you desire. In the Sierre area, there is an annual wine festival and a 2 Michelin starred restaurant at the Hotel Terminus.

Shopping

There are 2 supermarkets, 2 bakers, a butcher / fishmonger and a gluten free delicatessen in Grimentz, which can cater for all your food shopping needs whilst you are here, plus sports and gift shops. There are numerous vineyards in the valley.

Children

Grimentz is the perfect holiday destination if you have children. There is a creche at the top of the mountain in ski season, an excellent “snow garden” which helps teach the basics of skiing from about age 3 upwards, and then the 2 local ski schools provide group lessons for kids every week. In summer, the tourist office organises numerous activities to keep children amused such as arts and crafts, trampoline and treasure hunts, plus there are tennis courts, a swimming pool and mini golf all within the village itself.

Further afield

There is plenty to enjoy in the region - there are several other attractive villages to explore within the Val d’Anniviers itself. Less than an hour away is Leukerbad - the largest thermal springs centre in Europe, with several thermal bath complexes. Or, in a little over 2 hours you could be sipping a coffee on the shores of the Italian lakes.

Both Zermatt and Saas Fee are within easy reach for a day trip.

ADVENTURE AND RELAXATION.

What a fantastic place. As I ascended from the village and looked back, I felt like I was in a remake of that classic movie 'Where Eagles Dare'.

Whether you ski these amazing mountains (in winter), hike them (in summer), or merely come to sit and read books in utter tranquillity with spectacular views across the valley, 'Haut Cinq' is the best Chalet I have ever stayed in. In my long stay here at the end of last season, I was fortunate enough to get the best of both worlds.

And for those of you that are amateur astronomers, pack your telescope. The lack of air pollution and the lack of light pollution, give a view of the night sky that will inspire children and adults alike.

I arrived a tired, over worked, hedge fund employee. I left refreshed, and with better perspective on what matters in life.

Oh, and for those concerned with practical matters, it was well equipped and spotlessly presented. Everything I needed was there. I note a comment below about it having a small TV. If you come to a place with views as awe inspiring as this, and want to sit and watch TV... shame on you.

I will be back. There are so many more runs down the mountain, and walks up them, to be explored.

WHAT A VIEW! HIGH FIVE ALL THE WAY!

Haut Cinq really wears well it's name. High five all the way! From the first time we communicated with Ali and Dave until our return, they had been extremly helpful. The photos do good justice for what you get. The chalet is very warm, cosy with plenty of room for our family gathering of 10 people. The view is breath taking but a car is needed to get around. For people who love to cook as we do, the kitchen is very well equiped to keep 5 chefs busy at the same time. The fridge is also very specious and the beds are very comfortable. Val d'Anniviers has been a beautiful discovery for our family and we will be back for sure!

CHARMING IKEA HOUSE FOR DESIGNER PRICE

The description of the house is not complete. The house is located a 1 hour walk from the village and shops (up and down). Of course you can take the car but after heavy snow fall it is not easy to drive up and down (you will need chains to leave the parking area). When snow is lacking walking to the slopes (10 minutes) is the only solution (or take the bus to town also a 15-20 minute walk to busstop) Most interior is Ikea origin and worn out, bought probably 10 years ago when the chalet was build. The kitchen is a mess and storage for food is lacking. The beds are placed 20cm off the ground.Hot water is empty after 4-5 showers, not very convenient when you rent out to 8-10 guests. The bed upstairs on the mezzanine is a joke, the bunk bed is meant for children. The TV set is a 21 inch, way too small for the available space and standard of the house. Last but not least the Wifi signal is only strong enough in the upper floor, in the bedrooms the reception is too weak or lacking. In all an overrated house which needs organization and investment to support its high price. Extra star for the available space in the house, the view and beautiful fireplace.

Owner's Response: Thanks for posting a review, although we are really surprised it was so negative. Please allow us to address your points so everyone has a balanced assessment.
We've been letting out the 7 yr old chalet for 6 years, and have approx 8 to 10 lets a year. We have 3 families who rent with us every year.
The chalet is at the top of the village. Walking to the centre takes 30 mins (downhill) and 45 mins on the way home. There are lots of chalets to rent in the middle of the village. This chalet is different, it is designed to for tranquillity and has the best views, as the ad says, “overlooking the village.”
As you say, for skiers there is a 10 min walk to the slopes. As the advert says, “'given suitable snow conditions' you can ski back to the chalet. This was the case for the first 2 weeks of Feb of this year.
There are photos on the site, the pictures are 2 years old. 'Worn out' simply is not true. Only the sofas, rug, cutlery and coffee table are Ikea, (I wonder what houses don’t have some Ikea?) You do make a valid and fair point re kitchen storage, this is being addressed this summer. However, we would disagree with the rest of your description. Dining table and benches are hand made walnut. Kitchen is hand made pine & slate. Bedroom cupboards hand made pine. Chandelier is bespoke stainless steel. Mattresses are a Swiss brand. Fire is very high specification. Radio/CD is Sony. Coffee machine is Lavazza. Bedroom chairs are (new) Made.com.
No problem with the hot water before – there’s a booster if needed. This is something the management team could have easily sorted out . True, we have a medium sized TV, but it does extend forwards, did you try this? We are all very excited about the whole village receiving broadband this Autumn, we hope this means Wi Fi works throughout the chalet, rather than just upstairs.

The chalet is very reasonably priced. We would re-iterate that if at any point you rent anywhere in the future and have issues with the chalet – please do bring them up with the management team. Dave and Ali are brilliant and they will address any issues at the time.
On the plus side, we are glad you did appreciate the space, view and fireplace.
We are really proud of the chalet and we’ve never had a negative review. If, on reflection,you think that some of your comments are a little harsh, and you wish to give Haut Cinq another go, we would love to have you back, and would be happy to throw in a night free!

This lovely 4 bedroom chalet is perched just above the village, boasting stunning views across the Val d'Anniviers. In winter, it is only 200m from the main piste, (and given the right snow conditions, good skiers can ski back to the chalet). In summer, the chalet is in a perfect position to enjoy mountain walks and cycling - literally from outside the front door.

Sleeping 8-10 people in 4 bedrooms (3 doubles, 1 bunk room), and a large mezzanine sleeping area, the chalet offers spacious and comfortable accommodation and comes fully equipped with a TV with an integrated DVD player, wifi internet access, fridge, freezer, cooker, dishwasher, microwave.

There is a bathroom with wc, a shower room with wc and a further shower room. Outside there are balconies with stunning views, and a terrace area with BBQ.
