Genuine Athenian family home!
Private oasis in the City Centre. Walking distance to most historic sites.Internal courtyard for al fresco dining and relaxing...
Thanks for your friendly hospitality. All was easy going. The flat is very nice for spending some time with a group of friends...And the neighborhood is also pleasant.
summery: and a good atmosphere
When we travel, we look to stay in authentic places and hope to meet nice people. We were very well served in both areas. As indicated in the other reviews, this historic house is spacious and perfectly located a short walk from the major Athens site, yet in a quiet neighborhood where you can live like a “local”. Our 4 teenagers also loved the house, especially the back room. But best of all was Luke, a gracious, wise and very helpful host.
We would stay here again.
From the minute we contacted Luke Starr about Athens House he was responsive and helpful. He coordinated our taxi pickup from the airport for our family,, helped us get taxis service throughout our exploration of Athens, introduced us to the neighborhood café for great Greek cuisine (including fried anchovies and grilled sardines) at the most reasonable price, and made market shopping a breeze. He was the unofficial mayor of the neighborhood. Our family loved this unique home, the third separate bedroom had twin beds with a loft which was perfect for our three kids. The living, dining rooms and kitchen were very spacious and perfect for us to relax and cook our meals.
Everyday we ventured out and walked 10 minutes to the Acropolis and Athens flea market. Luke also understands that he needs to upgrade some of the appliances.
Athens House is in a great location, is a perfect house for a family and Luke is a very gracious and helpful owner.
We stayed at the Athens House this summer and had a wonderful time. The house is large, with two bedrooms as you walk in, and another towards the back of the house. The master bedroom had a shower and toilet. The room in the back had a loft, that though we had not used, looked very cool! All together we were 5 adults and 2 kids and the house was spacious enough to easily accommodate all of us. Each room had an air conditioner as did the living room/kitchen, as well as wifi.
The house was very centrally located, and we were able to walk to Athens' main attractions by foot (though some of the side walks were challenging for two strollers).
Best of all, our host Luke went above and beyond our expectations. A gracious host and source of information, he was helpful and available for all our needs, within a shout away.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the historic and rustic Athens House. The owners are very responsive and helpful; Luke met us at the Metro station and walked us to the door. He introduced us to the neighborhood, the bakery and eateries. The house is within walking distance of the major Athens sites, the Acropolis, Plaka, Archeological Museum etc. as well as the Athens nightlife. The area felt very safe and the price is more than reasonable. We would stay here again.
Luke & Jennifer Starr were terrific hosts. They were very responsive to every email inquiry made prior to arrival, gave great directions for taking the metro to their home and met us at the station for the approximately 5 block walk to their home. They live upstairs and were always available to answer our questions. They showed us the local supermarket, restaurant and coffee shops and provided great advice for getting to the Alimos marina for the next part of our trip after Athens. The house was within walking distance to the Acropolis, Acropolis Museum, Roman Agora, restaurants and everything we planned to see as well as having easy access to the metro. The house was as described and perhaps it was our North American ways but we did find both the beds and the living room furniture uncomfortable and the 2 burner stove did not seem to work well. That said it was a safe neighbourhood and close to everything.
Located within Athens Historic Centre, easy walking distance to the Acropolis, Museums, Markets, Plaka, Monastiraki and most of historic Athens. Keramikos Metro and Thiseon Train Station are both very close by.
With the best of both worlds in central Athens. The convenience of being close to all of Athens' major sites and a home to call your own, away from the hustle and bustle. yet just 20 minutes walk from the Acropolis.
Ours is a truly unique experience living in spacious comfort in a private house right in the historic centre of Athens.
The perfect base from which to explore.
