Putney & Wandsworth House Rental Photos and Description
5 bedroom, 3 bathroom home exceeds all boundaries
Town and country
Roomy London homes are few and far between, but you’ll find St Simon’s Avenue exceeds all boundaries. With two sitting rooms, two dining areas and one long garden with a leafy deck and playground, this home was designed with fun in mind. And in such grand proportions there are finer details too – from the brushed-velvet furniture and impressive chandeliers, through to some more playful points. Little ones can slide as easily out of bed in the bunk room as they can onto the garden’s soft grass from the wooden play set, and there’s a bright playroom on the second floor, well-stocked with games and a chalkboard wall. But grownups might find their entertainment in surrounding Putney – whether sipping pints at the traditional Prince of Wales pub, or dressing up for La Vera Italia.
Yours hosts are a young family of five who love the laid-back feel of Putney. They’ve planned to travel the world in the coming year, but can be found in their cinema room enjoying family time at home until then.
Strikingly designed, this home’s traditional bay windows and red-brick exterior are complemented by contemporary walls of glass. The cool extension juts out into the garden, forming an airy sky-lit dining room where you might set the long table for ten, or sink into an armchair with a book from the shelves. Through the gleaming kitchen are two cosy sitting rooms – both have generous corner sofas and period fireplaces. And from here you’ve a choice between heading upstairs or down. A state-of-the-art gym, cinema room and wine cellar occupy the lower-ground floor. While on the upper storeys are six sunny bedrooms, including a grandiose master dressed in luxurious metallic, a dusky blue double, and the colourful, characterful children’s rooms.

Why Owner / Property Manager chose Putney & Wandsworth
With its cheery aspect and fresh riverside air, Putney has been a tumbling ground for Londoners for centuries. This is one of the closest commuter neighbourhoods to London (overland trains take a mere 5 to 10 minutes to Waterloo), something fun-loving City gents discovered in the 1890s, promptly building up the well-to-do area around West Hill and Putney Heath.
Social researcher Charles Booth worried about the 'souls of pleasure-seeking Putney' as there were plenty of empty pews in the churches on Sunday, with residents having more fun rowing, walking, bowling and, further back in time, duelling – in 1798, prime minister William Pitt fought a bloodless battle with MP William Tierney, which makes today's shouting matches in the Commons seem rather tame.
Putney High Street is too traffic-stuffed to be the cosy, inspiring meeting place the area deserves, steer instead to the river. Here the waterside pub Dukes Head prides itself on its steak, and curious carnivores can enrol in a butchery masterclass for some hands-on cutting experience. Or meet up with the said engaging locals at hidden-away Emiles on Felsham Road, with the owner himself navigating the tables and jovially talking guests through the menu.
