It’s no accident that Richard Curtis chose to set one of his most romantic films in Notting Hill. Pastel coloured houses and cobbled side streets wrap themselves around funky bars and restaurants, sweet boutiques, and, of course, Portobello Road Antiques Market.
Just a short walk away from the fun, is Pembridge Villas. There’s a sense of the East here, from the cherry blossom screen to the Buddhist sculpture on the mantelpiece. But while the atmosphere may be zen-like, the comforts go way beyond the monastic. Smart, bright and comfy, if ever there were a place in which to regain suppleness of mind and body, it’s here.

Your hostess is a massage therapist, who’s very aware of the importance of a healing atmosphere. She’s originally from the USA, but, having arrived in London twenty years ago, she soon decided that Notting Hill was the place to be.
Despite overlooking a busy street, Pembridge Villas is wonderfully quiet, due in part to its lofty perch up on the third floor. You’ll enter into the open plan living space, which you’ll be sharing with four gigantic goldfish. The compact kitchen has everything you need, while four can sit and eat at the shabby-chic dining table. Across in the sitting room area, the couch will welcome you with its oversized cushions. Discover the television (thoughtfully concealed behind wooden panelling) or simply enjoy the modern fireplace.
The ensuite bathroom is a study in maximising light, and a long soak with our White Company toiletries is as rejuvenating as any spa. Next door, the bed is raised up high; lie back and appreciate the mix of modern and antique furniture, or simply relish the caress of our crisp white bed linen.
Walk down to nearby Kensington Gardens, or go and explore Portobello Road, where you’ll find vintage silk and lace, all manner of bric a brac and jewellery, and the Hummingbird Bakery’s sumptuous cupcakes. The bars and restaurants of this part of town are second to none, or, if you’d rather, head into town. From Notting Hill Gate to Oxford Circus, it’s a tube journey of a mere eight minutes.
