How now
Comfortable and cosy, charming and bright, Bolingbroke Road will have you wagging your metaphorical tail. Housed in a substantial Victorian building, you’ll find all sorts of original features, from the corniced ceilings to the marble fireplace. Here, everything is friendly and relaxed, the perfect place to discover your instinct to nest. Shepherd’s Bush is a peacefully residential part of town, with quiet, leafy streets. But magpies, never fear, for the shops of Westfield are close at hand. And if you want to migrate over to join the herds of central London, take flight to nearby Kensington, or simply jump on the tube.
Call of the wild
Your hosts are a pair of newly weds. They may live in the city, but their hearts beat to the rhythms of the savannah. Just back from a honeymoon in Botswana and Mozambique, they’ve filled their happy home with love and laughter, not to mention a fair few paintings of their furry friends.
A farmer’s life for me
London it may be, but there’s a farmhouse feel to the sunny yellow sitting room of Bolingbroke Road. Much-loved antique furniture sits alongside the softest of futons, and you’ll spot some gorgeous hand-woven textiles. There’s an extensive library of books and DVDs, and of course, a flat screen TV, perfect to curl up in front of and watch a film. The two large windows overlook the quiet street below, and animal paintings gaze down from every wall, from a moody bovine to the dining area’s contented little piggy.
The table seats four, and the rustic kitchen has everything you need to knock up a perfect pie or that special family recipe. Then it’s on to the bedroom, where you’ll find more paintings, books and a super-king sized bed swathed in our crisp white linen. Even the bathroom’s full of art, some of it painted by friends, which you can admire from the tub in the scented embrace of our White Company bubbles.
On the prowl
Walk Shepherd’s Bush’s stately streets, have a pint at The Havelock or The Jam Tree, or take your appetite to The Popeseye for some of the best steak in the city. For shopping, you’re in the enviable position of being able to choose between Westfield and Kensington High Street. Or, the tube from Shepherd’s Bush to Oxford Circus takes a mere twelve minutes.
