This is where it all began, the black bowler hats and the clerks hurrying home at the end of a long day at the bank. Nowadays the sums being traded are rather larger, and the hours somewhat longer, but this is the City, and, we’re not ashamed to admit that there’s something rather delicious about relaxing when those around are at work.

And here, in a listed mansion overlooking a Wren courtyard, is Lothbury, a high end apartment, with original features and all sorts of mod cons. From the extravagantly decorated fireplace to the chrome chandelier, Lothbury is the ultimate London pad.

Your host is a businessman based in France. He and his Gallic wife love Lothbury’s medieval atmosphere, and spend much of their time exploring the ancient alleyways and hidden passages that crisscross the City. They often eat out at their many fabulous local restaurants, and particularly enjoy the peculiar emptiness of their neighbourhood at weekends, when there’s ne’er a car, or a suit to be seen.

And indeed, the table at Lothbury is circular, although perhaps on a somewhat smaller scale than Arthur’s. Four can sit comfortably beneath the cloister-style windows. Or perhaps you’d prefer to snuggle up on the chocolate leather couch? Look up high to see the extraordinary original ceiling, or across to the fireplace, resplendent with exquisite detail.

Around the corner you’ll find the snowy kitchen is brand new and contains everything you could possibly need, including a handy extra eating area, perfect for parking dinner guests who like to chat to the cook. Up on the mezzanine, the double bedroom is simple and subtle. You’ve a king sized bed, swathed in our top quality linen, and next door, a petite shower room, crammed with our scrumptious White Company toiletries.

As you might expect, the City is filled with cafes, hip bars and classy restaurants. Busy on weekdays, at weekends you’ll find you have the cobbled streets almost entirely to yourself. You’re a six minute saunter from The Thames or ten minutes from St Paul’s, and from there you can cross the Millennium Bridge to Tate Modern. You’ve three tube stations just five minutes from your front door, and from Bank you can be at Oxford Circus in only nine minutes.

Home Truths -This home is not suitable for toddlers on the move, but babies and over threes are very welcome. There is a single sofabed in the sitting room that is suitable for teenage child. -The fantastic location of this property-right in the heart of the city, does mean there is level of street noise to be heard in the sitting room. And as the city is continuously being improved, on occasion roadworks can occur close by. -The heating/air conditioning emits a low hum when in use. -The host's cat visits with them when they are in town, so this home may not be suitable for people with allergies.
