So close to Tate Modern that you can squint at the artwork inside, you’re right next to the Thames and just a handful of minutes from St Paul’s Cathedral. On location alone, this home would be a winner, but in fact, it’s just as stunning inside as out. Housed inside one of the city’s most dynamic modern developments, your hostess has made this space her own with chrome, wood, glass, and a palate-tingling palette. Shelves of books and floor to ceiling windows complete the dish – one we know will leave you more than satisfied.

In the kitchen

Your hostess recently gave up her job in the City to focus on her PhD on the history of food, and food in utopias. So it’s no coincidence that her home is a perfect blend of energy and comfort, all seasoned with a generous dash of style.

On the menu

As an appetizer, we suggest a seat in the communal gardens among the olive trees and views out across London. Then it’s inside for the main course- the snazzy open plan living space, with its extensive library and a dining table that seats up to ten. The aubergine sofa’s generously oversized, and you’ll salivate over the original parquet floor. As you’d expect from the home of a true gourmand, the kitchen’s splendid, with a range cooker, an American fridge freezer and enough cookbooks to keep you at the stove for weeks.

And for desert? Up the stairs you’ll find a mezzanine study with more books, multiple desks and a cowhide recliner. The single bedroom is simple and sweet, while the master double is rather more spectacular, with curved walls and a copper bathtub at the end of the bed. You’ve an ensuite wet room presided over by a gigantic prawn, and a further bathroom in the brightest turmeric yellow.

Stir it up

You’ll want to go to Tate Modern, then maybe it’s a visit to The Globe or a trip around the foodie paradise that is Borough Market. Cross the river to Covent Garden, or stay on the South Bank for the National Theatre and the BFI. You’re surrounded by some of London’s finest cafes and restaurants, and the rest of Zone 1 is just a walk, or a very short tube ride away.
