This home exudes classic English style, and its surrounds are aptly elegant
Jolly good show
This one bedroom, two bathroom home exudes classic English style, and its surrounds are aptly elegant. Take a half an hour stroll down the Regents Canal, past gentrified industrial warehouses and Victorian mansions, to the alt chic of Shoreditch and London Fields, with its array of quirky boutiques and artisan coffee houses. Wanderlust sated, head back to take a constitutional in the flag-stoned garden. Pull up a pew at the six seater al fresco dining table with a glass of something aptly refined, and admire how the ivy climbs the old brick of your four storey sanctuary.
Your host is a consultant neurologist who’s lived in London all of his life. When he’s not enjoying the wealth of culinary and cultural delights on offer on his doorstep, or penning his latest tome, he’s climbing remote mountain ranges on high altitude expeditions, or travelling Europe and South American with his work.
An Englishman’s home…
You'll be beguiled by the Georgian era’s characteristic high ceilings, offset, here, by the modern art that lines the walls. Refresh in the ground floor’s sleek, white and chrome shower room then down to the lower ground floor and rustle something up in the country-luxe kitchen, where glazed terracotta tiles add a rural flourish, and light pours through the original windows. Pad through to the snug where comfy seats and sofas abound – recline on the day bed with a favourite book, or gaze out into the verdant garden.
Next, ascend to the pièce-de-résistance – the first floor sitting room. Resplendent in regal duck egg blue and bookcases bursting with books, it typifies gentrified style. A marble fireplace and sash windows sit alongside exotic relics from your hosts’ travels, and the large, flat-screen TV and sound-system mean you’ll not be short of entertainment. Up on the second floor you’ll find the master bedroom, with its crisp, king-sized bed and ample storage space, and the main bathroom, with its industrial, white tiles and mirror wall.
Town and country
Explore the antiques trade of the picturesque Camden Passage next door, or sample the bustling, inner-city institution of Chapel Market, for a slice of the London quotidian. Upper Street boasts an impressive array of bars, cafes and restaurants, or if retail therapy’s your want, mosey up to the world famous Stables Market of Camden. The bright lights of Oxford Street are just fifteen minutes away via the nearby Angel underground station.
