On a quiet street, not far from the pretty cafes of Kensal Rise, sits Highlever Road II. Away from the crowds of High Street Kensington, nearby North Kensington is a more sedate corner of London, relaxed, and charming. And here, behind a purple front door, is a truly gorgeous home.

Highlever Road II manages to be personal and welcoming, yet airy and uncluttered. Every opportunity to entice in the sunlight has been embraced, and now, whether you’re sitting in the bay windows or under the kitchen skylight, you’ll see that this is a home that glows.

Sparklers

A young couple, your hosts both work in the property industry – so you can be assured that you’re in some very experienced hands! Your host was born and raised in Hong Kong, while your hostess is a Londoner born and bred. They’re both fascinated by interiors. Indeed, the only thing that can tear them away from their home is the lure of an exotic holiday.

Light touch

The sitting room of Highlever Road II is all a-glint with mirrors and glassware. Settle down on the couch and admire the original fireplace, or pluck a book from your hosts’ extensive library. Then, it’s past the round table to the sunny eat-in kitchen. Pull together a feast beneath the skylight while your brood take their seats at the table. You may want to open the doors out onto the garden and encourage the little ones to climb up into the tree house while you relax.

Upstairs, a pure white double with butterflies wafting above our crisp linen. The bathroom’s painted in the softest of greens, while, with its superking sized bed, the master bedroom is a study in subdued glamour. The aubergine headboard, elegant artwork and antique furniture are reminiscent of a boutique hotel, and the en suite holds a fabulous free standing bath. One floor further and you’re in the attic room, with a further double bed, romantically sloping ceilings, and another en suite.

Shine on

You’re just a couple of minutes from Wormwood Scrubs park, head north and you’ll soon be among the cafes and shops of Kensal Rise, while a walk south quickly brings you to Shepherd’s Bush and the seemingly infinite shops and restaurants of Westfield. Further still, and you’ll be in ritzy Notting Hill, ready to explore the world-famous Portobello Road antiques market. And if you want to get into town, whether it’s to burn the midnight oil at Piccadilly Circus or explore the grand museums, the tube can have you in zone one in around fifteen minutes.

Notting Hill’s rebellious, bohemian younger cousin, Ladbroke Grove runs south of the Hill, before you hit Kensal Green. Partly gentrified, partly untouched, the area is a true testament to London’s unique and glorious mosaic of social classes, ethnicities and age groups.

Golborne Road, which runs north from Portobello Road, is a beautiful case in point. Here designer Stella McCartney runs her multi-million pound empire from a converted chapel surrounded by thriving halal butchers, Moroccan cafes and Portugese grocers.

And while further up the Portobello road this heady mix may have got somewhat diluted over the years, here high-end fashion boutiques and avocado-sourdough-sandwich serving cafes, live happily side by side with the bustling fruit-and-vegetable market, vintage bric-a-brac shops and down-to-earth pubs, all of which make Ladbroke Grove such a desirable place to be.
