About Jeff and Angelica Bazyk

When Jeff and I were in our early 20's, we started going up to coastal Maine every year in the summer. Raised in NY and southern CT, we fell in love with the quaint New England villages, the pine air, cool night summer breezes, the people, and the laid-back lifestyle. In 2001, we lived in a condo in downtown Boston and wanted to find a weekend retreat that offered lots of outdoor activities throughout the year. We had heard about the Lakes Region in Maine and decided to explore that area of Maine. The first time we saw this Log Home, set in the woods, on a beautiful lake, we knew it had everything we had hoped to find. With nearby skiing at Sunday River and Mt. Abram's and the interstate trail system of cross country and snowmobile trails - it would provide us with plenty to do during the winter. In the summer, we could canoe, kayak, swim, hike... or just relax by the lake. And, the nearby quaint New England towns of Bridgton and Bethel reminded us of why we were drawn to Maine so many years ago.

Jeff and Angelica Bazyk purchased this chateau / country house in 2001

Guestbook comments from the owner

We rented 9/18-9/25 2011. The house was quiet and peaceful. Everything was provided that we needed. Our group included my brother and his wife, my mom and my wife, 10 month old daughter and myself. There was plenty of space for everyone to relax. There were two solid wood child gates. One at the top of the basement steps and one at the base of the steps to the second floor. They came in handy with a 10 month old that thought she needed to explore every inch of the house. The front porch was wonderful. We saw a Bald Eagle the second day. The home was centrally located for what we wanted to see. The coast was only about an hour away and so were the White Mtns. I only wish the weather was cooler so we could have tried out the fireplace. I know no one in our group wanted to leave at the end of the week. I'm sure we will be back in the future.

Beautiful Cabin on the pond

  • 4 of 5

I found this little gem on VRBO and couldn't have been much happier about it. I'm the Head Coach for a performance Ski team and we had an event in Sunday River (30min away) and as this was a pretty important event seclusion and staying away from outside distractions is paramount. The morning after our arrival night I went for a walk out on to Papoose pond and noticed some iced over Ice fishing holes. After some time we found a local to Auger in a few holes for us and I was able to introduce my athletes to Ice Fishing right out the back door. we sat by the fire every night and the athletes were able to relax and enjoy themselves. The house was exceptionally clean upon out arrival and well stocked with fire wood. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for some peace and quiet in a beautiful setting!

Cabin in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great time during our stay here. We were pleasantly surprised by the authenticity of the log cabin and the seclusion from others. Everything was very clean and well stocked - from toilet paper to dish soap to sheets and blankets and pillows. We stayed in the winter and enjoyed the afternoon sun on the back deck, and spent our days at Sunday River (25 minutes away). There was plenty of dry firewood and the common space was nice and open. Hope to come back here again one day.

Great place for families on a quiet pond. Serene setting with a nice sandy beach at water's edge.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Papoose Pond. The home was comfortable and well-stocked. We really had everything we needed; from comfy beds to a small sailing dinghy & canoe. Blueberry & raspberry picking along the road was so fun! We had a great time exploring the pond in the canoe, and the surrounding area on bicycles. Water was perfect for small kids, shallow water with a sandy area for playing. Owners were helpful and responsive to questions/problems. They called to check in the first afternoon we were in the house to make sure we were finding what we needed. We had a small plumbing problem while we were there and it was fixed within the day by their local caretakers. We happened to be in town while the 'Waterford World's Fair' was going on about 10 minutes away, the kids loved it! We had ten people in the house for two of the nights we stayed there, and it accommodated everyone very well. We'd definitely stay there again.

Best relaxing family vacation ever

  • 5 of 5

I always check reviews of the houses we rent so when I saw this one, with all the amenities we had but with only one bad review (which I still don't understand as we thought the complete opposite) we had to try out. With all the technologies out there available to kids/us we thought it would be wonderful to unplug for 1 week and enjoy Maine and all it has to offer. The cabin is very spacious, clean and perfect for a large family. The lake is clean and gorgeous for swimming. We stayed really quiet in the morning but weren't lucky enough to spot a moose. The cabin is very private and the town is very cute and has a great bakery! All in all we had the best family vacation and I hope to return this summer again.

Fantastic Early Fall Week

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was just right for our vacation. The lane only goes to this cabin and the nearest neighbors were out of sight through the woods. We only saw a couple of other people in kayaks or canoes on the pond the whole week. The cabin is not a "showplace," it has been lived in and loved for a long time. Some of the furnishings are a little worn but it is clean and has everything you could need. It was just the two of us, so we didn't need all the bedrooms, but I can see this cabin being spacious enough for any big family. The fireplace was very enjoyable and they had the wood pile well stocked and accessible under the porch. I will say the washing machine needed cleaned out, someone had washed very sandy things before us. Also the water pressure of the downstairs shower was very low. Nothing major that can't be easily fixed and it certainly didn't take away from our enjoyment of our week.

We spent a lot of time on the porch enjoying the peace and quiet. You can't tell from the picture, but the porch looks out on the pond through a few big fir trees. There is a bird feeder on the porch that is very popular. We are birdwatchers so it was a delight to us when a Bald Eagle landed in a tree on the other side of the pond. The canoe was very enjoyable and easy to use. The cabin is far enough from any town lights that the stars were stunning. The Milky Way has never looked so close!

We didn't get to see a moose at the cabin, but we saw one north of Grafton Notch State Park so our Maine trip was complete! For sightseers and nature lovers who like us aren't major hikers, we highly recommend a trip to Screw Auger Falls, Moose Cave and the Artist Covered Bridge. We also spent a lot of time in the White Mountains National Forest, crossing into New Hampshire frequently. The views from the top of Mt. Washington will take your breath away, well worth the trip and the price to drive up. We also drove the length of the Kancamagus Highway on a perfect fall day. There were so many parks and places we wanted to see, we didn't get to all of them. It is a beautiful area and it was a perfect place for a fall vacation!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review. The couches were a bit tattered, so we just ordered new ones! Also, our plumber just fixed the bathroom shower. Thanks again for all the feedback and I'm glad you had a nice vacation.
