One of two knotty pine cottages located on a large, grassy lot at the end of a private, dead end road bordering the Rachel Carson Wildlife Sanctuary. Spectacular views of the sanctuary on three sides and only a short walk to the beach. (Note...the cottage is at Wells Beach and not on Route 1, therefore, a short walk is a short walk.) A waterway from the estuary borders the property, allowing guests to launch small boats, kayaks or canoes only a few feet from the front door. The cottage is ideal for anyone who places a premium on privacy, quiet, and nostalgia but still has amenities like cable TV and a brand new shower. The cottage has a large deck and plenty of room for parking.

Actually, I am a repeat customer, have been coming here since 20005. I love that is it quiet, away from the road, and backs onto the Rachel Carson Preserve. Watching the birds in the preserve right from the deck is a morning and evening highlight. I can launch my kayak directly from the edge of the property and paddle the Preserve at high and mid tide (not low tide). The walk to the beach is pleasant, and close enough to run back to the cottage for a bathroom break and for lunch. Even my teenager (not a huge nature fan) finds this a relaxing place. After a day on the beach the grassy property leaves space for frisbee and bocci ball. The property was clean and maintained in the old "beach cottage" style (ie. not a lot of high tech amenities, but all the essential ones). Wells Beach business district is a short walk away, too. I hesitate to recommend this too vigorously as it may fill up before I get my reservation in!

The only redeeming quality of this cottage is the location and even then it's a long walk to the beach with a lawnchair since they do not have pedestrian walkways like most beaches. The place needs to be cleaned up. Very old and needs a lot of updating even though the owner wants to keep the integrity of the cottage. The heat does not reach the other bedroom on the porch which had blood on one side of the futon. It was quiet which was great but other than that it's not a place I would go to again.
Owner's Response: Many of our competitors list their properties as "an easy walk to the beach" although they are 1 to 2 miles away on Route 1. This property is 140 yards from the beach, as the crow flies, and a 4 minute walk to the right-of-way. Are we supposed to say it's a "difficult walk to the beach" when the competition is 10 times farther away and saying it is easy????

The cottage is cleaned every week by a professional. We still cannot find the blood this individual talks about.

Our knotty pine cottages are purposely decorated and furnished with as much 1950's items as practical. (Example...a porcelin, kitchen table identical to one of the ones in Luke's Diner on the Gilmore Girls.) The walls are decorated with photos of Wells Beach in the 30's, 40's and 50's. We do, however, make exceptions like cable tv and things of that nature.

A vast majority of our renters are repeats. The individual who left this review was an end-of-the-season addition who was high maintenance from the get go. Six hours into the rental I fielded a call saying the hot water in the shower was dangerous a capable of burning children. I sent our fix-it man over immediately only to find the renter simply couldn't figure out how the shower faucet handle worked.
