|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
The Homestead, our restored farmhouse, is cradled in a setting of verdant greens and rainbow-hued colors, supplied by lush vegetation spread over two acres. The steep Ko’olau Mountains provide the backdrop, the blue Pacific Ocean the foreground.
You can immerse yourself in a Hawaii of days past. Awaken to the fragrance of floral essences, wafting on the gentle Trade Winds. Open your eyes to a breathtaking sunrise and listen to the chorus of exotic birds greeting the new day. Partake of some of the abundance the land provides such as mangoes, papaya, bananas, limes, oranges and coconut.
The house has three bedrooms and one bath on each level. These units are rented SEPARATELY. EACH unit is $135 per night. If you need space for up to twelve people you would need to rent both units. The upstairs consists of a living room, kitchen with an adjoining dining area, a fully equipped kitchen, an office area, and inspiration or quiet room, a single bathroom with tub and shower and a mountainside lanai.
The two bedrooms are furnished with queen-size beds and attractive island décor, the third bedroom has a full bed and cheerful tropical colors. The living room is equipped with a TV with Oceanic Time Warner cable and CD/DVD player. In addition to the traditional rattan couch and chair, it is also furnished with a single fold down futon. The dining area can easily accommodate six. The inspiration or quiet room provides an area between the front two bedrooms for playing cards or reading. This is a great spot to start your day with a cup of coffee or tea.
An office area has been made in the expansive hallway leading to the lanai. The back Lanai has a table and chairs, as well as built in seating. There is a covered clothesline for drying clothes in the fresh air. A charcoal/gas grill is provided for those aspiring chefs.
The Homestead Garden Suite is on the ground level. It too has three bedrooms, a bathroom with a large shower, a fully equipped kitchen, a cozy living area, with a comfy sofa and arm chair, an additional seating area is available on the large enclosed lanai. A bar height dining table provides an almost alfresco experience enhanced by the view out onto the grounds of an ever changing scape of blooming foliage and fruit bearing trees and shrubs. A cafe table and chairs is located outside by the gas grill for the true alfresco experience.
Should you want to explore our island, there are numerous activities to lure you to other areas both near and far. The Polynesian Cultural Center offers an incredible introduction to the island and it's cultural heritage, just 5 minutes north by car. Sandy white beaches are at every turn of the road, often deserted during the week, a pleasure to walk, snorkel or simply relax in the sun. The closest beach is a mere 7 to 10 minute walk.
For the hiking enthusiasts, there are two mountain trails within a five minute walk, Hauula Loop Trail and Makapuu Ridge Trail. The famous Sunset Beach, site of numerous surfing competitions, is just 20 minutes north, further along is Waimea with an Audubon-sponsored park and fabulous beach. Then you come into Haleiwa, an old town established in the days of sugarcane and pineapples. It still exudes it's original charm. Do not miss the shave ice!
To the southeast is Kualoa Ranch, maybe a 20 minute drive. This is the site of numerous location shots for movies, such as Jurassic Park. It also hosts varied activities for all age groups including horseback riding, ATV riding, historical exhibits, World War II Bunkers and much more.
Shopping for groceries, visiting local eateries and small local shops with Hawaiian treasures is part of the Hauula experience. They all sustain our local economy and make living in Hauula such a pleasure. You too can experience the authentic Aloha of Hawaii, come join us at the Homestead.
Honolulu is about an hour away, the shopping, the entertainment, the museums, all exude the aura of a big city with all the accouterments. It is definitely worth the journey, but, so is coming back to the tranquility of The Homestead.
We bought our house to fulfill a dream of living off the land. The almost two acres provide us with many seasonal fruits and an abundance of flowers. Family responsibilities and job requirements often call us to different continents so it is a dream still in progress. In the meantime we opened the doors to allow visitors to our island the experience of the serenity of our Homestead. You will be welcomed with Aloha to our little piece of paradise.
Brew Rudd purchased this house in 2000
The location was an ideal match for our dream. Away from the densely populated area of the island, away from the noise, congestion and close to life long friends.
A family friendly neighborhood
thank you very much for the house. it was amazing. anna and sam are wonderful people. everything was lovely. thank you very much. i'd like to get in touch with you again if we make plans in the future. also, just to let you know about how wonderful anna and sam are, we left a backpack full of souvenirs on the steps outside the house and didn't
know until we got to the airport. i called anna and she delivered it to me at the airport! i couldnt thank her enough. well until next time, take care.
Our family had a wonderful time staying at the Homestead. Beautiful country on the east side with mountains and several sandy beaches. Close to North Shore and all amenities. David and Brew were excellent hosts. I'd love to come back!
Our family had a great time at the Homestead suite. Beach toys provided, boogie boards/snorkel gear/beach chairs/etc were perfect for our family.
We loved the location; away from Honolulu. It was a nice quite get-away, yet near enough for activities such as the Polynesian Cultural Center and Kualoa ranch.
Our children, ages 16 – 20, loved the layout and location. It was nice sitting outside, enjoying the BBQ and family time. Neighbors are friendly and the market is not too far. Our children walked to the beach without issue.
No problems, as described. Perfect house for a family get-away!
Mahalo for such a wonderful time, the house was perfect for us. When we return, we will be sure to stay at your house again.
We stayed in the Garden Suite of the Homestead place. It was really charming and cozy. Our stay was really comfortable. The location was great. We had everything we needed for our stay. The suite had a really nice lanai in the front. We brought back dinner one night and enjoyed our dinner at the table in the lanai. It was really a great change after staying in busy Waikiki for the first part of the trip. The Netflix was a plus! After a long day of swimming we enjoyed family movie night every night. The kids loved it. Foodland was nearby along with quite a few restaurants. 7 eleven even closer. We all thought the location was perfect. Definitely a great stay and we will definitely love to come back. Our host was very thorough and provided us with all the information we needed.
We had such a great time at the Homestead that if we ever come back to Oahu we would definitely try to stay there again. The owner was extremely accommodating and responsive to any inquiries we had. We loved the fact that it is so close to so many great beaches, especially if you have children that like to boogie-board (and boogie boards were provided, which we greatly appreciated). It was also only 5-10 minutes away from the Polynesian Cultural Center, which was an awesome place to visit. The kids had a blast exploring around the yard the first day we got there, and the home itself is not only very accommodating, but the inside is very charming as well. Great selection of books, applicable to the history and things to do in Oahu. One of the highlights of our whole trip was a hike we took in the mountains right behind the home--the Hauula Loop trail. We literally walked just 5 minutes from the home to the trail-head, and had a magical time, seeing all kinds of different flora along different parts of the trail. At one particular part of the trail my kids remarked that they thought we were on the Ewoks' planet in Star Wars. The neighbors were helpful and friendly as well and we felt very safe in this neighborhood.
Our stay at The Homestead was great! It was a great size for the six of us and anything we needed help with was taken care of right away. It is a nice location to see all the activities on the North Shore.
Our stay here was more than I could ask for. We came in late in the evening which posed a slight challenge locating the house. We were not sure if you found the right house. So I crept up the walkway to the door and slowly checked to door to see if it was open once I saw the keys on the half wall I knew we were good. The inside was open and airy. I love the wood ceiling. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you would need. The neighborhood was quite and everyone was super sweet. The lady that lives down below was so awesome and down to earth. I am looking forward to coming back again. My only complaint would be having only one bathroom. But that's it. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us. We didn't want to leave.
