Tradewinds Cottage is perched high above John's Folly Bay in the quiet southeastern corner of St. John, 40 mins from Cruz Bay. Fall asleep to the sound of waves. We are a one minute drive from Salt Pond beach. This charming wood cottage features light, airy rooms with stunning ocean views throughout. The deck commands a panoramic view of the British Virgin Islands, and southeastern exposure offers breathtaking sunrises. Steady tradewinds keep the house cool even on hot days, and ensure bug-free evenings. The cottage can be rented as a one-bedroom, house to yourselves, all on one level. Or, whole house can be rented, two levels, one bedroom on each level. Upstairs is living room/eating area/kitchen, one bedroom, and one bathroom. Go down outside stairway to a beautiful downstairs bedroom sliders to private balcony, and bathroom with ocean views. Set-up designed for maximum privacy between two bedrooms, NOT good for small children, as bedrooms are very far apart.

Additional information about rental rates

  • $1200-2225
  • * Extra $225/wk for holiday weeks (Christmas, Feb school vac wk, April school vac wk).

    Rates do not include 8% USVI hotel tax.

    Extra charge per night of $30-$45 per night for extra people if applicable.
  • 1. 50% of the total amount due shall be paid within 10 days of the date reservation is made. The remaining
    50% plus a security deposit of $300, shall be paid to the owner 60 days before the first day of the rental period.

    2. In the event of a last-minute reservation, funds shall be paid in a money order or a certified bank check —
    full payment plus security deposit shall be due and payable by overnight mail.

    3. Cancellation policy: In the event that the tenants cancel this agreement, all money collected will be retained.
    If the owner is able to re-rent the cottage for that time period, the retained amount will be returned to the tenants,
    less a 15% cancellation fee. Travel Insurance is recommended for airline and accommodation cancellation expenses.

We loved this place! My husband and I went for a relaxing vacation and this was just the place. The views were spectacular, the cottage was immaculate, and everything we needed was at hand. The CD collection was amazing, providing a variety of genres, the kitchen was well equipped, and for the beach there were towels, beach chairs, snorkel and fins, picnic baskets, water bottles, etc.

At the cottage we found information about which trails to hike, beaches to explore, where the best snorkeling can be found, restaurants to pursue, stores to shop, stars to name, boats to sail, and excursions to join.

Lois checked in with us twice during the week; if there was anything we needed, she was there. Their friend and housecleaner was also available for questions, but the best was that she is also a massage therapist and acupunturist. I fully intended to take advantage, but the week went so fast, that we didn't have time.

Ah, yes. We left saying that one week was surely not long enough. I guess we'll have to return to get that massage, experience the beaches and trails that we didn't have time to get to, eat at those restaurants that the good folks in St. John told us not to miss, and next time we're bringing back a few bottles of coconut rum!

Our dream of a trip to St. John finally came true and we were so happy to have found Tradewinds Cottage for our vacation.

The view is awesome and the cottage is well-equiped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. We enjoyed exploring the island, especially the beautiful beaches and meeting the friendly local people. I can't think of anything we would have done differently and we hope to return to St. John and Tradewinds Cottage again. Lois and Doug are great hosts and the Tradewinds Cottage is perfect base for an adventure on St. John.

Hi Lois,

We are home now after an amazing week at Tradewinds Cottage. The first thing I said to Brad this morning looking out our bedroom window is that the view isn't quite as good this morning! (To say the least!) Ah well, I have my pictures to help us remember...

Thank you for sharing your home with us. Our vacation was even better than we expected (and I had been dreaming and researching for months!)...I don't think we could have picked a more idyllic island or better accommodations for us. So glad I found you and your home...don't even remember how I came upon your website but so glad I did! The views were spectacular (pictures don't really do it justice); cottage was charming; clean; comfortable and very functional. What a great value!

What a marvelous experience! Other than a delay in getting our baggage in St. Thomas, everything went very well. A gorgous deck on which to watch the local boats and sip mango flavored rum/fruit juice. The quiet side of the island which was very peaceful. The roads (hilly and curves) took some getting used to as tourist trucks and buses approach you often down the center of the road, but all part of the adventure. Fantastic snorkeling (hit 12 beaches)with turtles, rays, beautiful coral, etc. A great cottage with everything taken well care of. Downstairs bedroom worked great for a second couple. Lois did a super job of creating a paradise.

Our stay at Tradewinds feels like a lifetime ago. Your home is so beautiful. There is no place in the world like your deck. It is spectacular. All of the thoughtful comforts you provided were noticed and very much appreciated. Thank you so much for sharing your special place with us. We have stayed in a variety of accomodations on St. John--we will never stay anywhere other than Tradewinds again!
