Stunning views.

Many thanks for letting us stay in your lovely Italian house. It really was the perfect base for our first trip to Italy.

The views were stunning, the house was spacious and cool and the kitchen was well equipped.

Torricella Peligna is a beautiful town, we tried the pizza place you recommended it was excellent. We also visited some of the beaches on your list, which were a big hit with the kids (and us grown ups). So nice to have a warm swim after years of wetsuits in cold English and French seas. The weather, which i know you can't take full credit for, was hot and sunny every day, the views driving across from Rome and down the beaches were just glorious. Italian driving has to be seen to be be believed.

Fantastic Italian Adventure

  • 5 of 5
We (family of four with two children aged 9 and 6) had a fantastic time staying for a week in August 2011 at this delightful farmhouse. We flew into Rome, hired a car and took a relaxing three and a half hour drive to Roccascalegna, partly on the motorway and then partly through the mountains, which offered up some stunning scenery.

To get to the house you follow a dirt track off the main road and this is the first sign that you will be staying in a peaceful and truly rustic setting. The house itself was excellent, with everything required for a relaxing and comfortable stay. All bedrooms and bathrooms are a good size and the living area and kitchen both excellent. There is a lovely patio area at the front of the house which is ideal for catching some sun during the day, or for sitting out in the warm evenings and enjoying a glass or two of fine wine, or maybe even an after dinner Limoncello.

There is plenty of space around the house for the kids to play and also some nice walks into the forest. The kids loved going off into the forest for a bit of an adventure.

During our week long stay we headed off to the beach for a couple of days. This was around an hours drive. The beach (sorry but forgotten the name of where we went) was great. Very clean and good swimming for the kids. We also went to lake Bomba and used the hotel grounds for a great day out. There was a small charge for the family - around 25 Euros - and this enabled us to use all the facilities, except for the swimming pool (which wasn't needed seeing as we could swim in the lake). We went canoeing and out in the pedalos, as well as playing a bit of table tennis and badminton. There were lots of sun loungers for relaxing on. Plus you can take in your own cool box with your own food. If we had stayed for longer we would have definitely visited the lake more times.

We spent a few days exploring the lovely mountain towns in and around Toricella Peligna. There are some fantastic historical places to find and explore and we also happened upon a fiesta taking place in one town one of the evenings which was fantastic. Local music and performing along with friendly and welcoming villagers. A real treat.

All in all we had a fantastic time in a very unspoilt part of Italy. If you know a little Italian it will be helpful, but if you take a phrase book and just try your best it will get you a long way. We look forward to the next time we are able to visit.

The epitomy of the rustic idyll. Loved it!

  • 5 of 5
A gorgeous and beautifully renovated house with all mod cons. The setting was superb, with views across the valley and the nearby village had everything we needed during our stay there. There was plenty to do nearby (excellent couple of eateries in the village who were happy to accommodate non-Italian speakers!) and a large choice of beaches about an hour away, though on a good day, we managed it in about 45 minutes. Lanciano's a pretty town and not far away - lots of shops and places to chill and "people watch".
This is the sort of place where you can do as much or as little as you want and the peaceful setting of the house is perfect for your "loafing about". The only down side is that you definitely need a car, but I suppose you expect that anyway.
If you want to avoid the "preciousness" and the prices of Tuscany, then this is the perfect place to sample real Italy.

A great getaway from it all

  • 4 of 5
My wife and I and our two children (8 and 6) stayed at the farmhouse for a week at Easter. After 3 days in Rome the stark contrast of the peace and tranquility of the farmhouse provided the perfect duel location holiday.

We spent our days exploring the local villages and Roman ruins, playing on the wonderful beaches (about 50 minutes away) and relaxing on the terrace whilst the children explored the surrounding fields and woodland. We also visited the town of Ortona and the nature reserve at Seronella. We didn't have time, but next time we would also like to introduce the children to skiing at one of the resorts.

The farmhouse is well equipped with a modern kitchen and the local town of Torricella had everything we needed - cafes, restaurants and a supermarket.

For future visitors at this time of year we would recommend clothes for all seasons - the days were warm, but it got quite cold at night. Although it was great to sit with a glass of local wine on the terrace early evening and in front of the open fire later on.

A great getway from it all!
