To wake up in the morning with the reflection of the sunlight on the surface of the water and hear the sound of water birds is a unique way to live within the city. To share with you the experience and feeling of living on a houseboat in the canals of Amsterdam, we would like to welcome you to the Watercraddle.
This unique small houseboat recently had its interior completely renovated and is a perfect place to stay for two people looking to spend a great time in a lovely city. The houseboat has a comfortable king-size bed (1. 80 x 2. 00), a stylish bathroom, a kitchen, wifi and television. You will enjoy to sit on your own little terrace on the waterside and watch the water birds. The Watercraddle is located on a quiet walkway (no cars in front of the boat), just a few hundred meters from the Jordaan district, well-known for its canals, markets, cozy pubs and restaurants and the Anne Frank House.
The Watercraddle is located a hunderd meters from the heart of the Jordan, in the historic center of Amsterdam. The Jordaan is an area full of small restaurants, terraces, fun shops alternating with beautiful canals, small streets and with a variety of wonderful historic buildings. The Jordaan borders on the well-known shopping area the Nine Little Streets (literally: Nine Little Streets) were you can find usefull many small shops and cozy restaurants.
Within walking distance you will find highlights like the Anne Frank House, the Wester Tower, the Dam square, the Royal Palace and the Amsterdam Historic Museum. BedonBoard is easily reachable by car and public transport (see below under "Accessibility"), but once you're here, the easiest means of transportation is by bicycle (see tab "Bicycle rental").
The Watercraddle is a few minutes walk from the nicest shopping street in Amsterdam (and Awarded second best shopping street of the Netherlands, 2011): Haarlemmerdijk and about 10 minutes by bike from Central Station or the Leidseplein.
It is a mere 500 meters walk to the beautiful North, and recently fully renovated Westerpark, also known as the "Culture Park" or Amsterdam. In Westerpark you will find a classic Victorian style park section, a large center section for cultural events and a more rugged part with trails for walkers or runners. Centrally located in the park you will find the Espressofabriek with simply the best coffee Amsterdam has to offer. Enjoy a superb breakfast in the nearby Baker Store. Every Sunday of the month there is a farmers market in the park. If you're looking for something very close to the Watercraddle, we recommend the Pavilion.
In summary, a peaceful but central location in a nice neighborhood in Amsterdam.
From the airport you can take a train to central station (20 min). From there you can either walk (20 minutes), take a cab (approximately € 13) or take bus 21 (less than 10 minutes).
To take bus 21. When you arrive at Central Station, exit on the city side (main exit). Take bus number 21 and get off at the stop after 5 minutes "of Beuningenplein". At the other side of the street you will see a large square with a play garden: the "from Beuningenplein". Take the road left of this square (Second Keucheniusstraat) and follow 150 meters to the very end. You are in front of your BedonBoard!
When you decide to come by car. You can park your car almost always in front of the Watercraddle. However, Amsterdam is not very "car friendly" as the city charges rather high rates for parking. Alternatively, go to Park and Ride Amsterdam for cheaper parking options. The Park and Ride thats closest to us, is the "P + R Sloterdijk". The cost for Park and Ride is € 8 per day. They offer return tickets for public transport free of charge.

The Watercradle was the PERFECT place to stay while visiting the gorgeous city of Amsterdam. My wife and I were lucky enough to have found this terrific little houseboat online, and it really made our trip one that we will always remember. It was cozy without being cramped, with easy access to all major sites in the city. I highly recommend that you rent one of the bikes that Doet, the owner, provides. Riding a bike was the best thing that we did during our entire European vacation.
What made the visit even better was working with the fabulous Doet. She was very responsive when working on the reservation and made things easy for us. Her directions to the property were spot on and easy to follow, and we never once felt like we were lost. She was extremely welcoming to us, and she really made us feel at home. I'm very grateful that we picked her houseboat to spend our first Christmas as husband and wife together. We couldn't have asked for a better holiday retreat, and we sincerely hope to make it back one day!
We are just back from a 3 night stay at the Watercradle in Amsterdam, and can only give top marks for our accommodation. The 'Watercradle' is exactly as described on the website. The accommodation was very clean and functional with everything you need to self cater, ie, kettle, coffee machine, toaster, microwave, hob etc. The bathroom is very stylish and supplied with plenty of towels. Shower is very good too.
The bed is large, very comfortable with very good quality linen. The TV was positioned so could be watched in bed or from small dining area.
On arrival at central station, we walked to the houseboat as we are familiar with the city, it's about a 20min walk, but a nice walk! The host, Doet, who lives nearby, is very pleasant. Immediately on arrival, she took us to the Watercradle and helped us settle in, showing how everything works. She also gave us directions to the nearest supermarket and recommended a nice bakery and deli. She was at the other end of the phone if we needed anything, although we only saw her on check-in and check-out. Overall, we had a fantastic stay at the Watercradle and would thoroughly recommend this charming little houseboat to everyone who wants something different to a hotel break. Might even be back ourselves someday!
My girlfriend and I stayed a weekend at the watercradle in February. We had a very pleasant stay. The neighbourhood is quiet but also close to the centre, where you can easily go by bike, bus or tram. The cradle itself is rather luxurious, with a very comfortable bed, fully equipped kitchen and perfectly functioning bathroom. The cradle was totally clean when we arrived and actually didn’t have any problems at all throughout the weekend. Doet and Sven are also very nice people, who are always willing to help.
Two weeks ago my partner and I stayed at the watercraddle for a whole weekend. When we arrived the first thing we noticed was the peaceful area. The boat is situated on a quiet tree-lined street. The boat itself is very light and cosy! The bed is an amazing box-spring bed and it is really comfy. The boat looks very new and clean. In the kitchen everything, you don't have to bring your own stuff and everything is working fine. You can go really easily go to the center by bus, tram, feet or by bike (Doet en Sven have got 2 to lend). The westerpark is really near, just a 5/10 minute walk and you should really go there, it has a nice pub, bakery, cinnema and market.
Thankyou Doet en Sven for the great stay!
ps; Greets to your children as well they are great!
This houseboat is the best private holiday stay I ever came across. It is like living in your own studio on water. The place has a modern bathroom, kitchen, king size bed and table .. all you need. Oh, I forgot to mention the espresso machine and free wifi internet. And this all in a cute small houseboat on a quiet bicycle path in a safe environment. Close to the city center but out of the buzz. And a bicycle is available for rent too.
We stayed for 3 nights and we loved the place. Perfect location, safe, quiet area. The houseboat is amazing, clean and well equipped. The owner was very nice and helpful! We got great tips where to go for coffee, dinner, shopping.. We would recommend to anyone and looking forward to returning.
