Guestbook comments from the owner

Our family of two adults and two teenage girls had a great holiday at the cottage. It is an authentic Bavarian cottage renovated and maintained to a high standard. All the charm has been retained while at the same time all modern conveniences and comforts are also provided. The natural pool was most welcome at the end of a hot day touring the area. Sabeeka and Hans couldn’t have been more welcoming or helpful throughout our stay. They supplied us with bicycles for the two weeks we were there which was a fantastic way of getting about locally. They also provided us with all the practical things such as maps, train timetables, use of laptops, weather forecasts, local directions and information on restaurants and suggestions on places to see. Nothing was too much trouble for them and it made a big difference to our stay. They even supplied us with their own wonderful mosquito cream !!

There are a number of restaurants and beer gardens within a 2km radius of the cottage all serving excellent local food and drink. The Italian restaurant at Turkenfeld was a favourite, friendly staff, good food and good value for money. The cottage is located in a scenic area ideal for walking or cycling. There are many picturesque towns and villages around the lake and within a 20km radius. The Skyline Theme park 30 minutes away was a great day out. Dachau also 30 minutes away shouldn’t be missed. Munich 40 minutes away on an excellent train service has something for everyone with museums, open air markets, open top bus tour, organised walking tours etc. Overall the area has soo much to offer as a tourist destination and we would highly recommend it to families, groups and couples alike.

The pool was very disappointing.(We had paid extra for the pool). The wi-fi was not great either.the house it self was very satisfactory. We were close to the alps and the Allianz Arena . They were very entertaining. Dachau (a concentration camp)which was very historical.

Owner's Response: To be honest, I find your review quite shocking: You don´t mention why you found the pool disappointing and you definitely did not pay EXTRA for the pool! The price for the house remains the same regardless of whether you use the pool or not. While you were here you mentioned that two of your children couldn´t swim and the pool doesn´t have a shallow end. I immediately provided you with various swimming aids - armbands, bodyboards and aqua noodles which I had specially bought for you but which your family never used- what exactly the "disappointment" was about remains a mystery to me. What problems you had with the WiFi haven´t been mentioned either. What I would like to mention is that you left the house in shambles! I don´t know what kind of a daily fry up you had in the kitchen-everything was coated with grease. Besides this, the walls, specially in the hall and around the staircase, had prints of your hands everywhere- in black and yellow! We took three times as long as we usually need to clean the house and we had to re-paint the walls- THIS should have costed extra!

Unique and outstandingly beautiful

Zankenhausen is brilliantly situated. Small, picturesque and very quiet, but close to shops in the next village and to the main road linking to Munich. We found it perfect for accessing Augsburg, the Alps, Munich and had the Ammersee on our doorstep for fabulous restaurants, walks and excursions. We stayed in the large house, not the cottage, for 1 week and were 3 independent women travelling around Germany. The house is magical, beautifully crafted with antique (but also practical) furniture. It has a lovely, rambling garden with plenty of little places to sit or eat and still catch the sun. The layout of the bedrooms and bathrooms in the house allows a lot of flexibility in terms of sleeping arrangements for larger families or groups. There is plenty of space to relax and feel at ease. Modern requirements, like heating, electrical sockets and WiFi are all very good. The kitchen is brilliantly equipped and you want for nothing. Hans and Sabeeka are 2 of the nicest people you will meet; they are not just friendly, they are immediately friends and really care about your wellbeing and and full enjoyment of your stay. We heartily recommend it, and are wondering if we can manage to come back sometime!

Schönes, gemütliches Familienferienhaus

  • 5 of 5

Great base to explore the area

  • 5 of 5

We spent a fantastic two weeks in the house and intend to return in the future. The house had everything we needed, including sharp knives which we have normally found lacking in other houses. All the appliances are up to date and it was useful to have WiFi. The pool was lovely after a day sightseeing and the different outside areas are great for relaxing. You are encouraged to use the herbs and the fruit from the garden and Sabeeka and Hans are a great source of information about places to visit in the area and also places to eat and drink. My son was given a Bayern München cap by the owner of the restaurant Roming in Eching in Ammersee; it made his stay - and the food was good too. We agree that the Skyline Park is worth a visit and the zipwire across the stadium in Munich was a hit. There are so many things to do and places to see in the area and the house is an ideal base to explore and also to relax.

We stayed in both properties owned by Sabeeka and Hans as there were 16 of us travelling from England. From first contact Sabeeka was most helpful and even bought in 4 additional beds so that our party of 16 could stay together in the two properties which normally sleep 12 in total. The family are some of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet, they bought in groceries for us, and gave us lifts so we didn't have to walk (about 20 mins) or get a taxi to the station. They also offered us the use of their bicycles. The whole family were very friendly and very helpful.

As we drove in to the village we were overwhelmed with how lovely it was. The houses and grounds were absolutely wonderful, and we were all disappointed that we were only staying a few days - the photos are nice but do not show the true beauty of the houses and gardens. Even though there were 16 of us, the houses were more than big enough, very spacious and well equipped. The houses are 2km from Turkenfeld station which has an excellent train service into Munich. There are trains running until about 3am in the morning.

We wouldn't hesitate in recommending these properties to friends and relatives, and would definitely like to go back again for a longer visit. And it was hot and sunny! Thank you Sabeeka, Hans and family for a wonderful stay :-)

gemütliches Häuschen mit Garten

  • 5 of 5

The location of the house enables you to enjoy the best of both worlds. Although you can easily reach the city of Munich and all the possibilities that are connected with this vibrant center of cultural life, you can enjoy the peace and beauty of rural Bavarian countryside. Beside the Ammersee, 3 further beautiful lakes - Wörthsee, Pilsensee and the famous Starnbergersee - are close by. Various water sports such as windsurfing, sailing or swimming can be indulged in here. Weather permitting, the smaller lakes are ideal for ice skating in winter.

The Area is perfect for walking, hiking, cycling or just relaxing. There are plenty of cycling routes (maps are available in the cottage). The Alps and Jura mountains are only a 1 - 2 hour drive away. Spectacular canyons, romantic waterfalls and springs, mysterious stalactite caves, an ice grotto and lots of other unique natural phenomenas await you there. There are a number of ski resorts in the Alps that can easily be reached such as Garmisch, the Zugspitze, Mittenwald, Lenggries, Spitzing, Brauneck, Achenkirch and Leermoos.

The historic monastery and pilgrimage chapel of Andechs - world famous for its strong beer - is a 25 min drive away. Further beautiful churches such as the baroque church in Diessen are nearby. The location is perfect for exploring historic cities such as Munich, Augsburg, Dachau and Landberg or mountain towns such as Garmisch or Altötting as well as the famous castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof. Slightly further away but in comfortable reach as well (by train as well) are for example the cities of Salzburg or Nürnberg.

The cottage is located 30 km outside of Munich. A train station is 2 km from the village and a regular train service can be used to comfortably reach the Munich city center. Being the capital and cultural center of Bavaria you will find various sightseeing attractions as well as interesting activities. There is a countless number of museums (including the BMW world as well as the famous 'Deutsches Museum') you can visit, beautiful parks and architecture as well as the Olympic park and stadium from 1974. Additionally there are various churches ranging from the middle - ages over baroque, roccoco, jugendstil to modern buildings. All Football fans can look forward to a visit to the FC Bayern Stadium (Allianz Arena) one of the worlds most modern stadiums.

Munich also offers a lot of evening entertainment such as theater, opera, broad range of different concerts and nightclubs. In regular intervals the City of Munich organizes 'the long night of music' and 'the long night of museums' which offers various different programs that go on through the whole night .

In and around our village there are a great variety of activities for children. A children's playground is in walking distance of the cottage (2 min.), as well as a football field. A short distance away (by car or bicycle) there is a climbing crag and a labyrinth made of sunflowers and hemp (only in summer). The Skyline Park (half an hour drive) is the largest Amusement Park Bavaria's with roller coasters and rides comparable to those at the famous Oktoberfest. The Skyline Park has the worlds highest overhead roller coaster!

In addition to the natural swimming pool in the garden there are a number of indoor swimming pools and spas near by.
