About Paul DeVore, retired anthroploogist and shopkeeper--now poet
On a one-week vacation to Bar Harbor in 1976, We fell in love with the Town and National Park. We signed a lease on a shop--and never returned to Boston. A frequent fantasy of visitors; We were lucky enuf to make it work. For 25 years We owned Boston Baked Beads, The Dancing Deer &The Blue Heron Shop. We grew up living sweetly in small towns, but none was as beautiful as this one.

Why Paul DeVore, retired anthroploogist and shopkeeper--now poet chose Bar Harbor
While operating shops in Bar Harbor, we began searching for a retreat that would feel like it was a million miles from the happy noise and congestion of the downtown. It also needed to be of interesting construction & history. After 5 years, we found the Chalet of the Bears, deep in the woods and perched on a cliff above the Atlantic--with a private ocean beach at the foot of the cliff.
What makes this apartment unique
The Chalet of the Bears was built by a wealthy family during the 'roaring 20s'--a social peak in Bar Harbor. Experience what it is like to live for awhile in 'the house on the hill' from High Society days. Tour the main core of the Chalet and sit in the ballroom while hearing the colorful history of the mansion and its owners.
Guestbook comments from the owner
This was the most fulfilling vacation we've had as far back as we can remember. It's the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. We were in search of a little solitude, and we found it here at the Chalet, down at the ocean, and in the mountains of the National Park.
