From the wooden deck we have seen killer whales and dolphins. The seals are regular visitors and different species of seabirds are at home here. This is no surprise as the house is facing the North Atlantic ocean and rich fishing grounds are in view.
The house was previously the village general store which has been converted into two luxury apartments.
Until now the apartments have been used as a second home for the owner.
The village Hellissandur is only 200 km from Reykjavík (2.5 hours) and the roads are excellent. You can choose between three scenic routes going there.

The apartment is a unique and wonderful place, located right at the sea with a fantastic view of the ocean.
It is spacious, clean and cosy and comes with lots of nice things: Binoculars to watch the seabirds and ships; several bookshelves full of classical literature in various languages; a collection of classical music CDs along with a small hi-fi system. We were even supplied with an iPad, which had lots of useful apps on it.
Larus, who showed us around the apartment, is a very friendly and helpful person - available, but never intrusive, like another reviewer already put it.
We stayed for a week and had our little boy aged one with us. The place had both a baby crib and a high chair, and there were also a couple of toys for him. Furthermore, there's a small grocery store inside a petrol station nearby, and a bigger one in the next village a couple of kilometers away, so I can't of anything missing!
This house is as lovely as it looks in the photos. When we first walked in and saw the terrace overlooking the sea at twilight, with all the twinkling lights indoors - it was a real 'Wow!' from both of us. The house manages to combine being completely amid nature (you are poised right over the seascape, which changes all the time) with a stylish and welcoming interior. Lots of soft lighting. There are so many nice touches, like the strong binoculars by the comfy chairs looking out to sea, and the comprehensive charts of birds on the wall. They even tell you how to identify the passing shops on the internet, in real time! (One small tip: bring a serious raincoat out-of-season - all part of the fun.) All in all, a very special place.
Arrived shoulder season so wet and windy some days but great place to sit and watch ships and tide. See glacier from dining room and water below from living room, nook and bed. Near to great hiking, sights, restaurants-- although we preferred cooking in a lot. Immaculately clean, all maps and info needed, courtesy cell phone, roomy, private laundry room. Welcoming hosts -- available without intrusive. Spent week and would have spent more. Tip: use free internet and website owner gives you to identify ships rounding peninsula. Binocs supplied. Amazing sunrise and sunset views from same windows. Can't think of anything lacked.
My husband truly believes that this is the BEST place we have ever stayed... and we travel alot! From the lounge vast views out to sea and incredible sunsets. We saw so many lovely sea birds and seals playing in the water below. The deck was bathed in glorious sunshine and we even managed to eat out there 3 or 4 times.
The view from the kitchen window so no less impressive...straight up to the glacier. :)
The house is very well equipped with every thing you could possibly need. The surrounding area is amazing with the most stunning views and great hikes.
I highly recommend this lovely home. If you enjoy peace and quiet you will certainly like it here. Stay and enjoy the incredible Icelandic countryside. :)
To put it in a nutshell: this place is perfect!
The appartment is large and bright with huge panoramic windows and a terrasse overlooking the sea. It is brand new and spotlessly clean. Its equipment is of high quality and tastefully chosen. It has everything you need for a relaxing and quiet holiday - including the absence of a TV, which we actually appreciated, since it would distract you from the marvellous sea view. On the other hand, it has an enormous choice of books and classical music to listen to while watching the waves and sea life outside.
The owners are a lovely, easy and helpful couple. So many details show that they put a lot of heart and thought into this place: a pair of binoculars at the guests disposals. A large choice of maps and brochures for exploring the wonders of Snaefellsness, of which there is plenty. Printed weather and tide information for the upcoming days of their guests' stay. And there is so much more...
This place is possibly the most beautiful and relaxing appartment we ever spent our holidays in. Many thanks to Stella and Larus for the perfect stay they offered us!
Wow, what a beautiful place to stay. The owners were there to meet us and show us around their apartment. It was very clean, tidy, spacious and very modern. It
overlooked the sea from the lounge and bedroom windows and Snaefellsjokull from the kitchen window. The house itself is beautifully laid out and spacious. We never actually used the lounge are as we could sit and watch the seals or birdwatch from the bedroom window which had 2 armchairs and a coffee table and an enormous bed.
The surrounding are is great for walkers, birders or anyone wanting a varied landscape and no night clubs! We enjoyed every minute we stayed there and would thoroughly recomend staying there for a romantic break as well.
