Lissac the Beautiful

Lissac was the 5th house we have rented in the south of France since 1997. We spent August and September there, with visits from children, grandchildren, and many friends, all of whom had been our guests before. All were in agreement that Lissac was the best ever. The house itself easily accommodated a large crowd, the night sky shone and the shooting stars and the views of the Milky Way always made for great theater. The panoramic views of the Pyrenees from almost anywhere you went were magnificent. The nearby markets had wonderful produce. The property at Lissac itself had wonderful places to sit in the shade to read or to sleep. Eating outside for long lunches and for evening meals in the covered barn area made for the best outdoor dining we have experienced.
The kitchen was large, well stocked with pots and pans, plates, glasses, and flat wear. Since we love to cook with our family and guests this was very important to us. If we did want to go to a restaurant there were excellent ones in the surrounding towns- Carla Bayle and St. Sulpice were our favorites. There were more than adequate sheets, pillow cases, and blankets. The toilets and the showers functioned well over the course of our two months. The house was clean and ready for us when we arrived. The guardian for the property was always available for help and advice. And if it did get cold in the evenings towards the end of September, there was plenty of firewood and a great wood burning fireplace to keep us warm and cozy.
If you like to hike or like outdoor activities, the Pyrenees are a wonderful playground. One of our grandsons came with a bunch of his friends and they delighted in the canyoning and go-carting. We like to hike so we found the area replete with both easy and hard hiking experiences. This is a great area for people who like the outdoors but beware- the views from the house are mesmerizing and seductive. You can easily sit for hours watching the clouds in the huge sky and the shadows of clouds on the hillsides.
But the best thing were our wonderful landlords, Lynnie and Nell Ravenscroft who made us feel welcome, from the very first email to the last. We do not believe that you can do better than Lissac in the south of France.
