Beautifully restored farmhouse surrounded by Farmland with garden, 3 acre wood and large swimming pool. Magnificent open barn provides shaded area for eating in the summer and playing ping pong or listening to the frogs, cicadas and cowbells, golden orioles, woodpeckers, hoopooes and buzzards. Smell the lavender and roses; walk up the hill for 5 minutes and see 100 miles of the Pyrenees; paint your pictures or play your quartets. It has all been done in this idyllic spot. The house is 8 kms from Le Fossat, 500 m off a country road, set amongst rolling hills covered in crops or pasture. Spectacular views of the pyrenees can be found from the top of the hill behind the house (5 minute walk). It lies about 60 kms (45 mins by car) due south of Toulouse. The Spanish boarder is about 1.5 hours drive

Notes: This is an idyllic country property where life moves at a slow pace and you can expect to see and hear all sorts of birds, frogs, lizards, butterflies, deer, red squirrels, mice and even the odd hare, let alone distant cows and sheep, donkeys and goats, as well as cat that occasionally strolls by. Lots of space outside for games and local farmers perfectly happy with walkers - dreamy views of the Pyrenees from the little hills all around and the swimming pool surrounded by roses, lavender and honeysuckle as well as views up the valley. Neighbours are at least 500 m away but excellent public services, doctors, shops etc within 8 kms.

Lissac has a grand piano in the large salon, with rolling lawns and roses beyond the terrace. The house is within an hour of the Pyrenees, the Cathar Fortress of Montsegur, Carcassonne, the Caves of Niaux and Toulouse Airport. Water skiing on lakes south of Foix, fishing and canoeing on the Ariege. Riding on nearby farms, concerts in the churches, fetes and markets in the villages. Sheer bliss!

A lovely holiday home

I would echo all the sentiments from the previous reviewer. Lissac is a charming and rustic family home, with lots of space and a lovely swimming pool.

We were warmly welcomed by the owner's representative, and her friend dropped in regularly to clean the pool; both are natives of England. We enjoyed delightful weather, so the opportunity to eat out in the 'barn' was great - we had barbeques on 5 or 6 occasions.

If one's preference is for a quiet holiday, Lissac is ideal. On the other hand, the area is delightful, but a car is a necessity. There is an excellent Carrefour supermarket in Lézat 16 km to the north. The area is charming, with lovely rolling countryside and superb views towards the mountains. Thankfully, it is also far enough north that the thunderstorms from the Pyrenees do not tend to reach it.

Overall, we had a superb time, and would dearly love to go back.

Great for a relaxing family holiday

We (6 adults & 8 children) had a fantastic 2 weeks holiday here. This house is situated quietly but close enough to local services and shops to make life easy. The house is not finished to the highest standards but this adds to its rustic charm, yet everything you need is there. There is plenty of shade in the garden for when the weather gets hot and plenty of room for a game of football when it cools down. The house has a covered "barn" area at one end which allowed us to eat all our meals outside, whatever the weather, and there is a huge amount of safe space around for the children to go off and explore (our youngest was 6).

The lounge is large and setup as different seating areas, which allows for different activities (reading, games etc) to all happen in this one space. We loved the piano. We never missed the telly.

The bedrooms have mosquito nets, which we found useful, not because we had problems with mosquitos, but we had the windows wide open at night and the nets prevented the moths from flapping around our heads.

The house is full of books, games and the owners nick-knacks and some people may find it a bit cluttered. If you are fussy about having a high standard of furnishing, this may not be the place for you.

There are plenty of local villages and places of interest to visit but you may just wish to relax in the garden and make use of the pool somedays.

You will need a car to get around and make the most of your stay. Places like Carcassonne, Foix, Monsegeur, Mirepoix and even the pyrenees are all easily reached and all make a great day out.

Highly recommended for a relaxing holiday.
