Notes: This is an idyllic country property where life moves at a slow pace and you can expect to see and hear all sorts of birds, frogs, lizards, butterflies, deer, red squirrels, mice and even the odd hare, let alone distant cows and sheep, donkeys and goats, as well as cat that occasionally strolls by. Lots of space outside for games and local farmers perfectly happy with walkers - dreamy views of the Pyrenees from the little hills all around and the swimming pool surrounded by roses, lavender and honeysuckle as well as views up the valley. Neighbours are at least 500 m away but excellent public services, doctors, shops etc within 8 kms.

Lovely place, fantastic holiday

Very pretty house with plenty of character and lots of home from home touches.Lovely garden and private pool ideal for a big group of family/friends like ours with lovely covered outside area for eating large enough to seat 16 .Also very popular table tennis table !Plenty of space and seclusion to be as noisey/quiet as we liked play boule etc etc
Instantly relaxing we felt far from hustle and bustle, but were only a short drive from the local village with shop and bar.Large supermarket also a short drive away.
Not tempted to move much as so lovely round the house/pool/garden but pretty villages ,local mountain, cave and lake beauty spots all close to.
Fantastic hot sunshine completed a perfect holiday
We had no problems but very discreet caretaker cleans the pool daily and takes care of any problems.
This is our second time to Lissac with a big group of adults and teenagers and it was fabulous(again)

Lissac

Lissac is a lovely house, fairly rambling and comfortable. The gardens are great with lots of room to spread out and the pool was a big hit.

We were nine people in all and the house fitted us all in well.

It's a very quiet area and close to the Pyrenees.

Wine, Walking & Hoopoe Birds....

Wine, Walking & Hoopoe Birds....

As soon as you enter 'Lissac', the house just oozes character, and you sense all of the effort and care that the Owners family have put into bringing the property back to life (...and there is a nice little display explaining some of the work they had to do).

We were a large party of fourteen, and the al fresco dining arrangement were just perfect (completely undercover, so temperature is the onlt issue - and fortunately not for us!).

Sleeping and bathroom arrangements are perfectly acceptable for large groups with just a little bit of co-ordinating - and the tall ones do need to keep their heads down on the landing!

The gardens are lovely with lots of outdoor activities provided for, and the clean, well kept pool tops it off. that we had to share them with red squirrels and Hoopoe Birds was just a delight.

For the energetic, there is a very nice 12-14km circular walk to Fossat, returning through the pretty hamlet of Bajou.
We managed to try most of the restaurant recommendations and were not disappointed.

All in all.....A great group holiday destination.

Lissac the Beautiful

5 of 5
Submitted: November 14, 2010 Stayed: August 2010
Lissac was the 5th house we have rented in the south of France since 1997. We spent August and September there, with visits from children, grandchildren, and many friends, all of whom had been our guests before. All were in agreement that Lissac was the best ever. The house itself easily accommodated a large crowd, the night sky shone and the shooting stars and the views of the Milky Way always made for great theater. The panoramic views of the Pyrenees from almost anywhere you went were magnificent. The nearby markets had wonderful produce. The property at Lissac itself had wonderful places to sit in the shade to read or to sleep. Eating outside for long lunches and for evening meals in the covered barn area made for the best outdoor dining we have experienced.

The kitchen was large, well stocked with pots and pans, plates, glasses, and flat wear. Since we love to cook with our family and guests this was very important to us. If we did want to go to a restaurant there were excellent ones in the surrounding towns- Carla Bayle and St. Sulpice were our favorites. There were more than adequate sheets, pillow cases, and blankets. The toilets and the showers functioned well over the course of our two months. The house was clean and ready for us when we arrived. The guardian for the property was always available for help and advice. And if it did get cold in the evenings towards the end of September, there was plenty of firewood and a great wood burning fireplace to keep us warm and cozy.

If you like to hike or like outdoor activities, the Pyrenees are a wonderful playground. One of our grandsons came with a bunch of his friends and they delighted in the canyoning and go-carting. We like to hike so we found the area replete with both easy and hard hiking experiences. This is a great area for people who like the outdoors but beware- the views from the house are mesmerizing and seductive. You can easily sit for hours watching the clouds in the huge sky and the shadows of clouds on the hillsides.

But the best thing were our wonderful landlords, Lynnie and Nell Ravenscroft who made us feel welcome, from the very first email to the last. We do not believe that you can do better than Lissac in the south of France.

A lovely holiday home

4 of 5
Submitted: August 26, 2009 Stayed: August 2009
I would echo all the sentiments from the previous reviewer. Lissac is a charming and rustic family home, with lots of space and a lovely swimming pool.

We were warmly welcomed by the owner's representative, and her friend dropped in regularly to clean the pool; both are natives of England. We enjoyed delightful weather, so the opportunity to eat out in the 'barn' was great - we had barbeques on 5 or 6 occasions.

If one's preference is for a quiet holiday, Lissac is ideal. On the other hand, the area is delightful, but a car is a necessity. There is an excellent Carrefour supermarket in Lézat 16 km to the north. The area is charming, with lovely rolling countryside and superb views towards the mountains. Thankfully, it is also far enough north that the thunderstorms from the Pyrenees do not tend to reach it.

Overall, we had a superb time, and would dearly love to go back.
