Riding on nearby farms, concerts in the churches, fetes and markets in the villages. Sheer bliss!
There is a discreet resident couple living in an adjacent cottage, managing the house and pool.
We booked Le Fossat as the second week to our summer vacation in Spain & France, for our family of 4 which included two teenage children.
The first week was spent in the north of Spain in a lovely villa, quite modern and very 'normal' when it comes to Villa rentals ie...quite prescribed in terms of inventory and 'rules' etc. We had a great time and would happily return.
Le Fossat was very different, in a good way!
When we received the holiday 'pack' the first few lines described it as more of a family home to have holidays in than a holiday home. And, as we discovered, there is a difference.
The Gites is perfectly situated, a 10 minute drive from superb restaurants and supermarkets and 15 minutes from lovely Bastide villages and 30 minutes from larger towns such as Foix. The countryside is stunning so much so that even our kids were impressed.
The house itself was superb because it was a real home, with all the feeling of a place that was well loved and contained good and bad taste in terms of artwork, ornaments, books and furniture. It was just like our house! (as the holiday pack advised!)
There were no rules as such and we felt under no pressure to behave in a certain way, or to follow certain procedures....it was totally relaxing.
There were only 4 of us and we had space 'a' plenty, I can imagine that two families here would be idyllic with the size of the grounds and swimming pool, and the interior was 'shabby chic' and large.
If you are slightly OCD, then Le Fossat may not be your cup of tea but our Spanish villa would be a good choice, but if you want a truly relaxing carefree holiday in a real home then this place is great.
This is a lovely house with gorgeous large grounds and a big pool. The open barn veranda is a wonderful spot to laze away your days admiring the beautiful views over open countryside. It is also a great place for large groups to eat together in all weather. We were a group of 16 friends and enjoyed the pool, the open fires and made a lot of use of the piano! It is ideal if you want to really get away from it all. Best if you have a couple of keen cooks as it is a great spot to eat together, and restaurants are a bit of a drive. That suited us perfectly.
On behalf of the 13 of us, thank you so much for such a wonderful holiday at Lissac. We all had such a great time - what a beautiful house, exactly what we were after and what beautiful scenery and setting. We couldn't have asked for anywhere that was more perfect for our needs: great house, great pool, great garden and great outdoor area which we spent many hours in. The house had everything we needed, and we wouldn't think twice about coming back.
Our family loved the Lissac. Our group of 12 people (plus a few more for the last 3 nights) had plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the gorgeous garden, spacious pool, and the piece de resistance - the 'abri' or outdoor dining area. So even when it rained on a couple of occasions, we could still eat outside. The house oozed warmth and charm, and the view from the abri was beautiful. We saw buzzards, kites, herons and hares. Our group's ages ranged from 18 months to 66, and everyone had a fantastic time. Our family rarely get to be together all under one roof for any length of time, so this was a special time for us and hopefully we will return to Lissac one day. The booking process was also straightforward and lots of helpful information provided. Can't recommend enough.
We had a wonderful holiday with friends and family at Lissac. We enjoyed the relexed and peaceful atmosphere in a charming rural setting with birds and wildlife and wonderful views from the beutiful terrace. The houss, pool and outside area are excellent - and there is enough space for peace and quiet even with a large group. We really enjoyed the piano too. Finally there are lots of places of interest in beutioful countryside in the vicinity for all tastes: food, history, adventure and nature.
The photos and description were accurate. The property was in good working order and reasonably clean. There was on site support for cleaning the pool and repairs or help needed.
We would definitely recommedn this place to friends an dfamily and in fact are already planning our return trip!
This is nature on your doorstep, with birds singing to us for much of the day and the deer popped in occasionally and all amid a wealth of flowers and quiet country roads. Perfect relaxation in very pleasing countryside for easy walks and spectacular views. The local markets are all different and organic food easily available from these or local stores.
And the property? Spacious, comfortable, well equipped, very clean and well kept with plenty to occupy visitors of all ages (especially, for us, reference books and maps) and pleasant but unobtrusive staff to help where necessary.
Would we come again? Oh yes, and bring more friends. Perhaps we would venture further afield in an area where there are interesting rivers, even bigger hills and architectural towns with plenty of history but this time was quiet and happy and thinking of it is 'smiley'
The old farmhouse is about 55 kms due south of Toulouse, and 100 m off a country road, set amongst rolling hills covered in crops or pasture, and with its own wood, large garden for games and smelling roses, and a huge pool. Within an hour are Cathar castles, the Pyrenees, the Canal du Midi and rivers for canoeing, caves for exploring, and markets in every little town, Romanesque churches in every village, and glorious birds and wildlife, and peace everywhere.
Other Activities: Tree Walking, canoeing, go-karting, water skiing, horse riding, downhill mountain biking, golf, swimming.
