Overview

Kailua House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

E komo mai to Hale Makai, our house plus cottage island paradise in Kailua. Lying alongside a fabulous three-mile stretch of protected beach, Kailua is a small town on the windward side of Oahu. Kailua Beach is routinely voted one of the best beaches in the world and with no hotels in town, only local residents and visitors who rent vacation homes get to enjoy our island lifestyle. Your family will love this kama'aina (local) way to enjoy Hawaii.

And why do we think it's paradise? The perfect location and an ideal place for families. Our three bedroom, two bath home and one bedroom, one bath cottage are located on a single lot, just a 2-minute walk around the corner from Kailua Beach. Pick up your cappuccino at the Kalapawai Market on your walk to the beach every morning and your shave ice (snow cone) at Island Snow every afternoon on your walk home.

Our smoke-free house and cottage are furnished in island style to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable. You’ll feel right at home while you barbecue dinner on the patio, relax in the screened-in lanai, wander to and from the beach, watch movies or cable TV, or drift off to sleep on the comfortable beds. We also have wireless internet access for your laptop computer so that you can stay connected!

Our three bedroom, two bath home has a king, queen and two twin beds (sleeps six), living room, well-appointed open kitchen, large screened lanai, and covered patio with Weber gas grill and outdoor furniture. For a larger gathering, there is also the detached one bedroom, one bath cottage with a queen bed in a separate bedroom and queen sofa bed (suitable only for small children) in the living room, kitchen/eating area, and covered patio with its own Weber gas grill and outdoor furniture. Both house and cottage have access to all the beach toys - boogie boards, sand toys, beach chairs/mats/towels and cooler and come with an initial supply of paper and soap products.

When you're tired of the water or lazing on the beach, Kailua town, with its restaurants, shopping and entertainment is 1/2 mile away. And, just a short car ride away, you can swim with the dolphins at Sea Life Park, snorkel in Hanauma Bay, hike the stunning Ko’olau mountains or Diamond Head, swim/surf the North Shore, browse the 'Swap Meet' at the Aloha Stadium, sample Honolulu’s nightlife, walk Waikiki Beach or get to the airport.

NOTE ABOUT AVAILABILITY: The house or cottage is available to rent separately for smaller groups. About The Owner

My husband and I have had this property for about 25 years. At first, we rented it out to regular tenants but that limited our opportunities to use the place ourselves. Since my husband's family had lived in Kailua for many years during their high school years and had many fond memories of the island, we wanted to be able to bring our own family back to Kailua on a regular basis and create our own family memories. About 8 years ago, we decided to convert to vacation rentals and have been able to enjoy many happy days as a family here. We hope that you find our place as comfortable for your family as we do for ours!

The Owner purchased this house in 1990

Why The Owner chose Kailua

Location! You can't beat it.

What makes this house unique

Being located right around the corner from Kailua Beach Park means that you can go back and forth to the beach all day without loading and unloading everything into and out of the car. I love being able to pick up my latte at the Kalapawai Market in the morning before my beach stroll, and we have a family ritual of shave ice every afternoon from Island Snow (President Obama's favorite before-dinner snack with his kids!)

Wonderful place, wonderful experience

  • 5 of 5

Rented your lovely house and cottage for a week with my daughter and family and another couple and their son. There was more than enough room for all of us, comfortably, and so much lovely outdoors space for the children to spread their wings. The cottage was my "haven" and it just wrapped it's arms around me when I needed a little get away. A perfect

location, perfect accommodations and one of the best vacations ever.

Family reunion (Sydney)

  • 5 of 5

We booked the house and cottage for a small family reunion for family from different parts of the Pacific. We thought the property was perfect for the purpose, with enough room for everyone. The owner was helpful. The property is very well maintained, very clean and had lots of helpful touches like the beach equipment. Photos are accurate and the house has a lovely feel.

The cleaning staff is worth a mention as well as we got there early and although we couldn't check in early they were very accommodating to let us store our luggage safely and were happy for my elderly mother to sit with her feet up on the lanai while they completed their work.

The kitchen is well equipped and had everything we needed. We loved the outdoor BBQ area so much we ended up there every night even though we talked about going out for dinner. We were so comfortable we just didn't get there!

The beds were comfortable and living areas allowed enough room for all of us. Having the cottage was great given we were a bigger group.

The location is brilliant. It is meters to the market and only a few steps further to the beach. We loved Kailua. As well as having a beautiful beach, it has a real community feel and seems a long way from the bustle of Waikiki. However, Waikiki and many other interest spots are only 20 minutes away. Make sure you get to the local car park markets on a Thursday night. They have fresh fruit and vegetables and a good place to pick up takeaways of local food.

I am sure we will book to stay here again.

Absolutely Amazing Place

  • 5 of 5

Having booked this place completely sight unseen, we were not sure of what we were getting into. But the owner was kind and helpful through the booking process ( even helped us with renting another place when our group expanded to 16 from the original 10). But the house was more than we ever expected.. the location was amazing, the beach was gorgeous and we had a most wonderful Thanksgiving family-and-friends holiday this year. The house was spacious and comfortable and equipped with every little thing that one could want on a family holiday. It felt like "coming home"!

The main attractions of Oahu are less than 25 minutes away, but Kailua itself is such a sweet, quaint little town, that you can stay cocooned in its tranquility..

I am so glad that we chose this place over so many other properties. A BIG Thank you to the owner of this property!

What a beautiful house and cottage! We rented in April 2009 and were very pleased. You never know what to expect when renting a place unseen, but for us we were more than thrilled. The house is so close to the beach. You literally walk out your door and turn a corner and right in view is Kailua beach. Also on the corner is a market called Kalapawai. We would get up at sunrise grab some coffee and walk about 3 minutes to get to the beach for a morning walk. Both the house and cottage were well equipped with beach toys, towels, coolers and any thing you would need at home. The locals in Kailua were all very nice and I just can’t say enough positives about our stay. We’ve already decided we will be back and hopefully this place will be available!

What a perfect place to stay. My family and I rented the house and cottage together. There were 10 of us total and everyone was very comfortable. The property is in a great neighborhood and only steps to the beach. The large backyard was a perfect place for us to gather. The location is very convenient to everything. I really enjoyed walking the bike path along the coast every morning. The sights are wonderful. There is a great sunrise on the beach as well if you wake up early enough. I couldn't have asked for a better vacation spot

We really enjoyed the house, we also rented the cottage. The proprty was everything it said it was. The beach is close and beautiful. The drive is only 20 min from any of the major site seeing destinations. The morning coffee in the market was a high point.
