2 bedroomed ocean fronted apartment situated in a tranquil village

My sister & I wanted a peaceful, get-away-from-it-all base for our walking holiday In Madeira, and we certainly found it here. All the rooms in the flat give onto the seafront with beautiful views of the sea - only a fairly quiet coastal road separates you from the Atlantic Ocean, which provides a constant soundtrack as the waves crash on the pebbly shore - fantastic! The owners, Sarah and Ciaran, couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful - they'd got us some basic shopping in (which they didn't charge us for doing) as we were due to arrive over the Xmas hols, plus we arrived to find they'd left us a bottle of wine, and eggs from their own chickens! They only live a few minutes away, so picking up/dropping off the key was no problem. Harvey the parrot and baby Riley also gave us a lovely welcome! It's in Madalena do Mar (not Ponta do Sol), which is very quiet, not touristy at all, no shops but a great little local restaurant up the hill past Sarah's, and Calheta isn't far to go for a supermarket - though you do need a car. You can park in a layby one miniute from the flat. Ponta do Sol isn't far either, and has more atmosphere. The flat itself is basic but clean, the kitchen well equipped, the beds OK. Very good value for money. All in all, we'd definitely recommend it to others, and would stay there again! As for Madeira - it's wild & beautiful - a great discovery!
