Beautiful and Comfortable Home Well Situated for Touring the Area

  • 4 of 5

My friends and I stayed in this lovely home for close to a week as a base to visit the southwest section of Ireland. The home was beautiful, spacious (we were 3 couples), clean, and plenty comfortable with all of the amenities that we could possibly need. This home is located up the hill so that you have a lovely view of the entire valley and is less than a 10 minute drive into Killarney. We sat on the lovely deck in the evening with our glasses of wine/irish whiskey, etc.; what a relaxing end to a long day of touring the regional sights!

We experienced a few very minor issues during our stay which highlighted Gerardine's attentiveness and responsiveness to her guests resulting in a quick resolution.

Be aware that the road is quite rough; however, once you get to the house and take in the views, it is well worth it. As for the dogs down the road, they are not vicious just wanted to do their job and protect their territory; we had no problems with them once we figured out that we just needed to let them bark for a minutes and then get out of the way. It is the country, and at least for us, that was part of the charm.

If we ever visit this region again, we would definitely rent this home again.

Thank you Gerardine for everything.

Amazing Property

  • 4 of 5

My mother and I enjoyed a lovely long weekend at Alder Lodge. It combines the best of everything. Located in a peaceful, country setting yet only minutes from bustling Killarney. It's down the road from the Gap of Dunloe and perfectly situated for the Ring of Kerry drive. The house itself has been beautifully decorated, but is still comfortable and inviting. The owner was even thoughtful enough to leave fresh cut flowers and provide us with some breakfast essentials including tea and coffee. The road to the property is in quite poor condition which is the reason for my four-star rating. I do not consider it impassable, but you will need to drive very slowly, especially if you have a smaller vehicle or one that is low to the ground. I feel that Alder Lodge is worth the drive and will definitely stay here again if I am ever back in the area. Our stay was truly memorable and one the highlights of our trip to Ireland.

Just Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

Myself and my husband and our children enjoyed a wonderful weekend at Alderlodge.

The house itself is stunning and was it was absolutely immaculate! We enjoyed evening drinks on the deck with the most incredible views, We had a choice of two elegant sitting rooms to relax in and then retired to the most beautiful bedrooms,

The area was lovely and very central for exploring Kerry, although a car is very necessary,

The only regret I have is that our stay was so short! We were all very sorry leaving and are already planing a longer return stay to Aderldoge!

Shabby

  • 1 of 5

Road leading to the villa completely impassable if you have an ordinary car. Next doors down the road had 2 vicious looking dogs that ran out if you passed by. House outside had old shed, bikes and old wheelbarrow. Plus old car outside. Property inside needed painting. Shabby bedrooms with mould in the ensuite shower rooms. Description stated good quality bed linen this was not the case. Both dishwashers were broken. Outside windows were dirty. They were 2 rooms on the ground floor full of junk. We couldn't stay because of these issues. Main one being the road.unless you have a helicopter or a sturdy 4 x4 off road vehicle I would attempt to ruin the chassis of your car's. We had to book into hotels which proved difficult for 9 of us in the height if the holiday season. Not a good start to the holiday.

Fabulous House in Stunning Surroundings

  • 5 of 5

I have just returned from a fabulous stay in Alder Lodge. The house itself is fantastic - very large and spacious and everything you could need from bath towels to kitchen utensils and free wifi. We stayed as a family get away - 10 of us - and whilst I was worried before we went that all 10 of us squished into one house may cause friction I really shouldn't have worried - the house was so spacious that at times we couldn't even realize there were so many of us there. On one occasion the younger family members watched a movie in one living room while others played board games in the second living room, my parents were sipping wine in the dining room and myself and my partner were out relaxing on the decking in the sun! It was great too that the dining table happily fitted all 10 of us around the table - as did the picnic table outside.

The location was also stunning. A trail runs from the house right into the gap of Dunloe and also up into the Kerry mountains. A really peaceful location too, yet when we did go out for the night in Killarney, a taxi for 7 of us was only 30euro.

From the moment I contacted the owner I was made feel very welcome and it was a really great family get together - I think my younger siblings were even suggesting they wanted to move there permanently!!

I would say that the only slight annoyance was that the road up to the house was almost impassable if you have a low car!

Absolutly great!

  • 5 of 5

We're visiting Ireland since over ten Years - three or four times a Year. We have seen many, many Holidayhomes and had never such a clean, nice decorated and quiet place to stay! You will find everything you need in the Kitchen. And the Holiday Cat is for free :-) he is standing everytime out of the house, never dropt in - but he is so nice and made us smile.

The accsess to the House is usual for Ireland :-) and no problem to do - the only thing - be aware of the dogs from the neigtbour....that they dont jump under your car :-)))

We love this House really! We will come back for sure, it will be the first time we visit a house again!
