Photos and Description of the Puyguilhem vacation house rental
Sleeps 6/7+cot, kitchen-diner, dishwasher, washer, terrace and flowery courtyard

This beautiful restoration of two village houses has been our family holiday home for 20 years, furnished and equipped for maximum relaxation and ease. 3 double bedrooms, one single, also possible sofa beds in sitting room. Glorious views from upper terrace ( table, garden chairs large umbrella)for meals. Small extra fridge for cool terrace drinks/ breakfasts Family bathroom with ground floor bedroom, en suite in master bedroom, 1 st floor. Most rooms have dual aspect windows over stunning landscape, vineyards, sunflowers, sensational sunsets. kitchen diner has full cooking utensils, cafeteria, dishwasher , combi micro/electric oven, gas hob. Village is peaceful without through traffic, just a few neighbors. Many visitors just enjoy unwinding and savoring the French way of life, marketing, wine drinking, sunbathing, reading and dozing; for more energetic outings there is superb golf (7km) and excursions to St Emilion and Medoc, or the caves at Les Eyzies.

The house is sheltered within the ancient village fortifications from the 100 Years' War, the 'Donjon' was the look out post, hence marvelous all round views; other remnants of the fortified wall can be found nearby, and stone cannon balls first fired with gunpowder from the next hill have been dug up. If sunbathing on the upper terrace palls, the flowery lower courtyard (charcoal barbecue) is the place to watch nesting bird sand doze off with a good book. There are local markets every day of the week ( Issigeac on Sunday)and recommendations for all local restaurants in our 'house book'. Chateau des Vigiers has every leisure activity you could wish, superb 18hole golf and driving range golf shop( sells their wine), and two restaurants for fine dining, fitness and beauty salon.

. River swimming and canoing in the Dordogne and Vezere(at Limeuil)rivers, visiting castles and craft/antiques fairs, Advisable to book for caves at Les Eyzies ( timed visits in season) and for some 'grand cru' chateaux in Medoc. Superb tour ( with tasting) at Chat. Mouton Rothschild includes museum of wine related art objects, definitely a day out to be recommended. In July and August many villages incl Sigoules and Eymet have evening markets with al fresco eating at long tables- great fun, as is Sigoules wine fair in July.Local evening concerts are well advertised, do not miss those in the exquisite church of Monbos sitting in the sunflowers , with its archaic carvings. Combine a local wine expedition with a collection of vintage cars, free but polite to buy a few bottles); 14thJuly for Fireworks over the Dordogne river on Bastille Day, at Eymet, Ste Foy la Grande and Bergerac. Charming town Beaumont has 'the best ironmonger in France', short drive after Issigeac (great Sunday market). Details of all these activities and more, available in the house or by directly from owners. Because of the hillside and construction on several levels the house is not advised for disabled, elderly, or small children, though details of a ground floor cottage opposite can be provided , and will be on this website in Autumn, Non-smoking and no animals. Three bedrooms can be twin or double as wished, one bedroom has antique French bed , more like large single. Cot available on request, Laundry room off kitchen with washing machine and line for indoor drying.

All linen provided, changed weekly, starter pack if wished.

About Professor Robert Bluglass/ Dr Kerry Bluglass

We are a professional couple, both doctors, educated in Scotland ;we have been travelling and staying in France for years as we have French friends in other partsof the country. They love to visit us in Dordogne where they envy us the weather and the gastronomy.Travel and access have greatly imptoved in the past few years with the opening of Bergerac airport( although Bordeaux is also a possibility), and of course the TGV from Paris. We like to keep the property open and used when we are unable to visist or travelling elsewhere, so have started to make it available to rent in some of those periods. Our other property, La Fourniere , opposite (see no. 1085865) has always been advertised for summer letting( on HomeAway this year for the first time) and we have had many happy summer vsitors in it, as well as some longer term tenants over the winter.

Professor Robert Bluglass/ Dr Kerry Bluglass purchased this house in 1985
Why Professor Robert Bluglass/ Dr Kerry Bluglass chose Puyguilhem

Surrounded by the most beautiful vistas and history of Aquitaine( when this part of France belonged to The English crown) including tangible mementoes of the Hundred Years' War, we found this area simply beautiful, rich in attractions of every sort- aesthetic, gastronomic, historical and linguistic. We were familiar with many other delightful parts of France but were captivated by the possibility of relaxing holidays which indeed we and our family and many friends have enjoyed.

What makes this house unique

Situated in South West France, notable for wines and gastronomy, essentially rural and peaceful, with quiet roads and friendly people, yet lively with weekly markets and delicious local produce, wine fairs and local tastings;train connections to Bergerac and Bordeauxif rural peace palls, accessible to wonderful historic chateaux ,and by car to some of the most spectacular caves,

Fabulous Country Vacation

My husband and I spent one week with friends in Kerry and Robert's incredible home and had a fantastic, relaxing time. The house itself is so unique - you can feel the centuries of history in the thick stone walls...and yet we were perfectly comfortable. Kitchen, bathrooms, etc. are all in great condition and well-appointed. The tiny little hamlet of Puyguilhem is charming and peaceful, and yet there is plenty to do in the region. We explored the many local villages, markets, wineries and spent some time in Bergerac. In short, this is a great place to "slow down" without ever getting bored. We hope to return!

Charming and Unique Property

This is a really unique house perched next to the Chateau wall in a tiny village on a hill in beautiful rural countryside. We, a family of 4 plus grandparents, stayed for 2 weeks last summer and had a lovely time. The house and village are full of charm and the location is quiet and peaceful. Local area offers something to suit everyone, we went cycling, canoeing, visited historic local towns and villages, swam in the lake nearby, enjoyed the fantastic local food and wine. Bob and Kerry the owners provided excellent customer service providing all the information we would need well in advance and did everything they could to ensure we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay. I would be happy to recommend this property to anyone.

Stayed here last year, had a lovely time. We were a family of four plus grandparents and the accommodation suited us just fine. This house is really unique perched next to the Chateau on a lovely hill looking over the countryside. The location is beautiful with lots to see and do in the local area. We went swimming in lakes, cycling, canoeing and visited many charming local towns and villages. Bob and Kerry couldn't have made us feel more welcome and we would recommend anyone to stay in this delightful property.

"We loved being steeped in the history of a medieval hilltop village. The views are AMAZING!! The terrace at sundown is a particular delight and being next to the chateau with nesting hoopoos in the castle walls was a real joy.

We highly recommend this delightful house for a relaxing and rejuvenating French holiday."

The small hilltop of Puyguilhem village near Bergerac was a home to me for all of 7 days while my son and his family stayed in the main house( Le Donjon). We were hosted by the Bluglasses as charming and hospitable hosts you can ever hope to meet. With beautiful walks and historic vineyards a stones throw from the village we found it an ideal holiday home for adults and children alike. The nearby Bastides - medieval towns were delightful places to visit and shop for French food and look at the work of local artisans. Hopefully we can visit again.
