TWO BEDROOM HOUSE FOR UP TO FOUR WITH GARAGE AT FOOT OF MEDIEVAL CITÉ

Carcassonne City House Rental Photos and Description

Two Bedrooms (three beds), Two Shower Rooms, Kitchen/Diner/Lounge, Wifi and HDTV

From the entrance lobby at the main door two stairs lead down to the newly-refurbished shower room/WC. Upstairs the first floor has two double bedrooms (one with an additional single bed) and an additional shower/WC. Also on the first floor, the kitchen/diner/lounge includes two large settees, a breakfast bar with four high stools (please bear this in mind if you have younger children), oven and hob, microwave, and a dishwasher. There is a wood-burning stove in the lounge for the winter months and electric panel radiators are throughout the other living areas and staircase. The washing machine is in the utility room in the cellar and the private garage can also be accessed via the cellar.

Free wi-fi, (high definition) Satellite TV, and Playstation 3 with a selection of games and Blu ray movies.

Carcassonne, in South West France, is easily accessible via its own airport with Ryanair flights to London Stansted, Glasgow Prestwick, Liverpool, East Midlands and Bournemouth airport in the UK, Porto in Spain, Dublin and Cork in Ireland, Brussels in Belgium, and Billund in Denmark. Toulouse, Perpignan and Beziers Airports are all a little over an hour away by car with flights to many other European locations.

Carcassonne is one of the most popular tourist attractions in France, with its dramatic medieval Cité (listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997). Walk along the castle ramparts to get fantastic views of Carcassonne and the surrounding countryside, or visit the Castle itself or the historic Cathedral, dating back to the 11th Century. Numerous excellent restaurants and independent high quality shops are within the walls of the medieval Cité, which are a few minutes walk from the house. Two Michelin-starred restaurants are within 400 metres of the house, one of which is in the Cité itself, the other (two-starred) a few minutes walk along the road.

For those with a car, historic local villages such as Villemoustaussou and Pennautier are within 15 minutes drive. Slightly further away (about 40 minutes) is Narbonne, and a little over an hour away are Toulouse, Beziers, and Perpignan. Alternatively why not take a train to some of these larger cities, or to the seaside resort of Sete, with its long beachfront.

BRIGHT, CHEERFUL AND VERY HANDY

  • 5 of 5
We really enjoyed our week staying at this house and exploring the Carcassonne area.
The house itself is very clean, bright and airy, and just as described on the website. Everything in the house worked perfectly and it was evidently well maintained and cared for; if we had had any problems we knew that Pierre and Chantal, the housekeepers/gardiens, were only a phone call away. This particular property is unusual in being located right in the centre of things and yet also having the luxury of a garage for parking the hire car (and handy for storing our golf clubs!).
We spent our week exploring the countryside and its Cathar castles, taking a trip to Albi with its fab Cathedral and Toulouse-Lautrec museum, and playing golf at Carcassonne golf club in a challenging strong wind! For eating out in the evenings we followed Anna and Ian’s recommendations for local restaurants and particularly liked Le Trivalou and Le Passage, both within 500 yards; for breakfast the croissants from the local Tabac were the best I’ve ever tasted!
Would certainly recommend it for a long weekend or a week’s hols (we used Easyjet Gatwick to Toulouse).

IT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN BETTER!

  • 5 of 5
We were met by Pierre ' le gardien de la maison' who showed us around the spotlessly clean house. Don't worry if you do not speak French as Pierre is incredibly patient & communication worked well with my schoolbook French & google translate!

There is everything you could need and more in this home from home and clearly much thought has been put in to guests' needs by Anna & Ian.

We had many walks up to the cite which is about 10 mins up a hill and less than that on the way back down! The intricate network of streets with a great mix of shops & places to eat is fabulous to explore and you will understand why it is a world heritage site.

There is a great market on a Saturday morning in town where the produce is of amazing quality and very cheap.

We took the 1 Euro train to Quillan which was a fab outing for lunch we also went on 'le petite train' around Carcassonne for 3 Euros each which gave us an opportunity to see parts we had not managed to explore.

We had a wonderful time and highly recommend this accommodation.

Owner's Response: Jude,

Thank you so much for your kind words. We have indeed tried to provide a home from home for our guests, and it is good to know that the house worked so well for you. We will also let Pierre and Chantal know that you appreciated the welcome they provided, and their work to keep the house clean and tidy.

We have made some improvements since you visited, including an automatic garage door. New photographs will be on the website shortly.

We are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay, and look forward to welcoming you back - and to hearing what you think of the changes we have made.

Warmest regards,

Anna and Ian

PERFECT HOUSE, PERFECT HOSTS!

  • 5 of 5
We booked our holiday just a few days before we were due to leave and Ian and Anna could not have been more helpful arranging everything for us. Definitely put our minds at rest, nothing was too much trouble for them and they answered all our questions promptly.

On arrival we were met by Pierre which gave us a perfect opportunity to practice our French.

The house was perfect! Light, airy, very clean and very comfortable. Ian and Anna had thought of everything we could have possibly needed and also added a few extra little touches to make our stay home from home. I particularly loved the lighting throughout the house, light switches at every corner! The bottle of wine was very welcome on our first night too! We found the garage to be very handy as we hired a car for a few days from a car rental recommended by Ian and Anna which proved to be most reasonable.

The location at the foot of the city walls was ideal with plenty of restaurants to choose from. Just a short walk away is the Pont Neuf leading to the Bastide area. I would most definitely recommend this property to anyone thinking of going to Carcassonne for a holiday, and can't wait to go back ourselves.

Ray, Sue and Family.
