Everyone should know that right on the other side of the river is a loud, heavily traveled highway. We were awoken every morning at 3:30 am by the start of the day's traffic, and this was with the windows closed! The noise of the traffic overtakes any sound or peacefullness from the river. Also, one mattress cover had a large urine stain and another mattress cover had mouse droppings. Dead flies were all over the living room floor. The smoke detector had a dead battery and was not in working order. The only TV is a 9 inch TV. Yes, 9 inch. This rental property is low quality. When we alerted the owners of the problems, they took defense and became insulted. No resolution has been offered. Poor customer service, to say the least. Simply put... Look elsewhere!!
Owner's Response: When we received this complaint we were shocked by what she said, and we felt terrible that our renter did not have a good experience. We take great care to provide our renters with a comfortable and clean home. We want their vacation to be a great experience. We tell all our renters to inform us immediately if they find anything wrong or if they have any problems, so that we can address them right away. This renter did not inform us of any concerns until 10 days after their stay, so there was no way we could verify or resolve any of their concerns.
We employ a professional cleaning service that cleans our property and inspects it between every renter, and we also have a pest service to ensure that our house is both clean and free of any pests for our renters. Our cleaners found everything in order after the previous renter and before this renter. As soon as we received this complaint, we sent our cleaning service back to the house to inspect again. They reported no problems, and they reported that there were no stains on any of the mattress pads and no signs of mouse droppings.
Our house is on a quiet dead end road that has very little traffic. There is nothing but forest across from our house. Behind our house is the Saco River, and on the other side of the river is a two lane road, route 302. We cannot control the traffic on the other side of the river, certainly, but in all the years we have rented this house we have never had a complaint about noise from traffic or anything else. We have many repeat renters, and referrals from previous renters, who really like the house and the setting, and who tell us what great and memorable vacations they have at our house.
Regarding the TV, ours is a 14"TV, and we are clear in our description that we have only network TV channels (Basic Cable), a VCR and a DVD Player, but people who want to watch TV on their vacation may not want to rent our house.
We are at a loss to understand how this renter could have had such a terrible experience, and why they didn't inform us when they encountered any of these problems so that we could have done something to mitigate their concerns. We also would have been happy to reimburse their full rental and deposit fee if they did not wish to stay. We want our renters to have a positive experience in our home, and we hope they leave feeling that they got more than their money's worth for a good vacation.
