We can't imagine a better presented and equipped holiday cottage than this one. It was perfect for our 'family time' getaway with our 2 year old and 8 week old children.... we never tired of the views down to Sheffield and surrounding towns as we drove around. Spectacular!

Super,gorgeous, homely, clean - tranquil - perfect

  • 5 of 5
Our second visit this year and just as lovely. Sara made us very welcome, couldn't do enough for us. Super little welcome pack now with the added bonus of a freshley baked loaf of bread straight from the oven together with all the other goodies. Quite a different holiday this time, the first time was in 0 degrees and 10ft of snow, this time quite the opposite 27 deg of red hot sunshine. So we sat outside drinking wine having BBQ's - perfect
We can't thank Sara and Joe enough.

Stunning location, beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5
It was such a haven of relaxation and beauty in this lovely cottage. I loved the way it was decorated, it felt very homey. I had a bit of trouble getting to the property for the car rental agency had closed for the bank holiday weekend. I gave Sara a call and she arranged for me to be picked up at the nearest pub and then kindly had her partner drive me to the grocery store to do some shopping to last me until Tuesday. On Tuesday they drove me to pick up my car rental. The cottage was perfection, really. You will need a car if you like to see the region. Sara had tons of tourist information in book with maps, a welcome kit of local beer, honey and cookies. I couldn't recommend it more. Thanks for everything.

What a find!

  • 5 of 5
We loved our stay, the pics don't tell the full story. Sara is a lovely hostess and sooooo welcoming, with local produce on the welcome tray. The cottage is very clean and very well equipped and homely.

We love walking so this was a perfect area to stay, fab views and lots of dry stone walls and ladderstiles. We also loved the local pub quiz in the evening although we didn't win the cash prize; but that won't stop us going back!

A definite find which we would like to keep a secret, but we don't think it will be a secret for long! We will return!

Excellent cottage, location and hosts!

  • 5 of 5
A fantastic little cottage in a secluded area of the Peak District. The cottage is immaculate and has everything you could need.

Sara provided some local food, bread, eggs and jam for us on arrival and made us feel completely welcome.

Local village is only a short walk away, with some fantastic walks around the local reservoirs. The rest of the Peak District is only a short drive.

Really memorable place to stay!

Lovely relaxing break

  • 5 of 5
We arrived at Peat Pits farm after quite a stressful journey with a warm and friendly welcome from Sara, the owner. Sara was very helpful and thoughtful during the stay as was the rest of the family.
We loved the cottage. The welcome pack was exceptional and very well thought out, especially the two bottles of beer from the local brewery which went down a treat!
Peat Pits Farm is in a stunning setting amidst the countryside and we couldn't have wished for more. Great pub a little over a mile away called The Old Horns which has breathtaking views from the garden. Its well worth the walk.
The cottage was beautifully decorated keeping the old with the new. So cosy at night and very comfortable.
Also great was the Alfred Hitchcock collection which we made good use of on the rainy evenings.
This cottage is perfect! Literally for anyone as its great for walking but its close to many places worth visiting if walking isn't your thing.
Sara, Jo and family have done a wonderful job and we hope to return soon x

Beautiful cottage in a fantastic location

  • 5 of 5
We had a lovely romantic break in this beautiful cottage. The location is amazing, with lots of easily accessible walks in the Peak District, whilst still within easy reach of Sheffield. The cottage is newly furnished and very comfortable with everything you would expect, and a very warm welcome is provided by the owners. We would thoroughly recommend it to anyone and will definitely come back!

Bradfield is a beautiful agricultural area in the northeastern fringes of the Peak District National Park perfect for walkers, cyclists, outdoor pursuits enthusiasts or those who simply want to enjoy the peace and tranquility of an unspoilt landscape. It is made up of two villages Low and High Bradfield. High Bradfield is centered around the beautiful church of St Nicholas, a Grade 1 Listed Building thought to date from the 12th Century and Bailey Hill believed to have been the site of a Norman motte-and bailey castle with breath taking views of the surrounding countryside up Bradfield Dale towards Derwent Edge and the village of Low Bradfield below. The most spectacular views can be seen from the summer terrace of the Old Horns Inn the lovely village public house and restaurant.

Just half a mile down the road Low Bradfield is home to the village cricket and recreation ground – the Ibbotson Memorial Field which draws visitors from many miles around for picnics and family visits to watch the cricket bowls and tennis. Bradfield today is a thriving community offering a range of amenities including a Post Office with shop and cafe, village hall, deli and café, and a public house.

This region is dominated by a magnificent array of reservoirs and dams. Damflask reservoir lies downstream of the village and upstream there are Agden, Strines and Dale Dike reservoirs. In 1864 Bradfield Dale was the site of the country's biggest natural disaster, when the dam burst and its 600 million gallons rushed down the Loxley valley killing 250 people. Beyond Strines is the impressive Ladybower Dams, made famous by the 'Dambuster' squadron to practise for their raid on the Ruhr Dams in 1945.

Despite its tranquil setting Bradfield is only 7 miles from the centre of Sheffield and only an hour away by car from Manchester, Leeds or Nottingham making it an excellent base for exploring the surrounding areas.

Also close by is the village of Hathersage (about 15 minutes by car) thought to be the inspiration for Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, and home to a wide selection of shops, pubs and inviting eateries and Castleton (about 30 minutes by car) with its famous caverns and home of the Blue John stone). Edale, the very start of the Pennine way and the market town of Bakewell and Chatsworth house are all within easy reach.
