Local activities:
The pretty medieval village of Venejan, dating from the 13th century has been lovingly restored and is renowned for its summer classical music festival that takes place in the Chapelle Romane. There is a bakery and an auberge restaurant and further shopping can be done in either Pont St Esprit with its bustling market on a Saturday or in Bagnols that has a big market on Wednesday plus all other necessary shops.
Sight seeing:
An ideal base for visiting this beautiful region, crossroads between the heart of Provence and the Cevenne Mountains. At a couple of kms is the Ceze river valley with many picturesque villages to be visited, river beaches with fishing and canoeing. Slightly north are the splendid Gorges d'Ardeche and to the south the impressive Pont du Gard just outside the pretty market town of Uzès. Avignon, the Papal city lies 35 kms south and provides plenty of historical sights as does Nimes slightly to the west and renowned for its Roman Arena. Venejan is in the heart of the famous Cotes du Rhone wine trail and many cellars are just waiting to be visited for tasting !
