At 50 Km from Rome, to the north, straddling the Via Cassia and the Via Flaminia and the provinces of Rome and Viterbo, the village of Calcata, perched atop a mountain of tufa, overlooking the green valley of the river Treja. From the village you can access several nature trails, passable on foot or on horseback, crossing the Valley Regional Park Treja. Nearby, Lake Bracciano, Lake Martignano, Lake Vico, the Borgo di Sutri, the Terme di Stigliano and Viterbo. Since the seventies, the village is populated with the arrival of painters, sculptors, designers, architects and more. Today Calcata is a kind of place outside the world, which seems far from the classic medieval village as there are many, but once through the narrow streets you'll immediately notice that there is a different feel. Only a few dozen people live permanently in Calcata, and if there was a statistic on the rate per capita of creativity this place would be at the top of the world, and this is reflected a little 'everywhere - on signs, in the shops, the choice of colors and of each trait of the place. A walk to Calcata is something that restores the spirit and reduces background noise to the pace and frenzy of daily life are there, the placid serenity that becomes a soft relaxed, Zen-like.
