Big beautiful family house in spectacular location on Slocum River - easy access to beaches, state park & Buzzards Bay. 40 feet from the water - glorious sunsets. This is the perfect spot for a family vacation on the water. Excellent for swimming, sailing, fishing and beaching with the kids. Hang out on the deck or in the garden, or go boating. Elegant furnishings, modern spacious tile kitchen, hardwood floors, Bosch dishwasher, new appliances, Bose sound. Entertain at dining table that seats 10 as seen in photo or on one of the decks.
We’ve been taking our summer vacations at this lovely spot for many years. The house is just a few steps up from the shore of Slocums River, a quiet, secluded estuary that encourages a reliable southwest summer breeze. It’s suitable for a good-sized crowd with a very large dining area and plenty of comfortable spaces for leisurely vacation conversation and reading. Sleeps 10 comfortably. We use it as our place to gather the grown children and grandchildren and to invite along those friends that we don’t get to see enough of. There are several smashing bay and ocean beaches within a short drive and a perfectly beautiful spot just a 10 minute boat ride away at the mouth of the river. Julie is always available to handle any minor issues that might come up, and the house and property are always kept shipshape and ready for us to enjoy.
We stayed at "Bayards House" for a week in the summer. We are two families with 4 adults and 4 kids under 14. The kids spent most of the time jumping off the dock into the water and of course we took the boats all over the place. There is a really cool beach just down the river and we just put the boat up on the beach and swam - the water was a little cold at times, but the kids figured out that it was warmest when the water came over the hot sand.
The house has everything. It is big and spacious and has two beautiful decks which we used all the time for eating, drinking, sitting, reading or just keeping an eye on the dock and the kids.
The master bedroom is amazing and the other bedrooms were comfortable. The kids used the bunk beds and we still had an empty guest room.
We went to the stores at North Dartmouth where there is everything and also Westport which is cute.
It was a great vacation - thanks!
We had the most perfect family vacation in this really fantastic house. Where to start?....The house is very big, five bedrooms including the master bedroom with bathroom which overlooks the water..it’s like being on a boat. Also upstairs, there is a large queen room and two bedrooms with bunk beds sharing a bathroom. The kids loved the “Pirates Cove” with their own TV. Downstairs there is also a Queen bedroom with its own bathroom. Everything was just as described but better!
Every day we would take the skiff out, it’s a small boat with an outboard motor and goes very fast. We would wiz down to the beach or up the river exploring the amazing unspoiled environment. The kids also caught some stripers and swam most days. They also used the canoe and paddled out to the islands a couple of times. The decks overlook the water, so I could watch them while relaxing with a drink. We all had lunch outside round the table on the deck and dinner inside around the big dining table (we had 13 one night). The house is really a luxury home with everything you could want in the way of appliances and home comforts. We used the grill a lot. The kitchen is big with an island and the living room has two sitting areas and a huge stone fireplace – I think it would be great also for a winter getaway.
We didn’t really go anywhere except North Dartmouth to the Go-Karts and a day trip to Newport. We bought some lobsters in Westport and cooked them in a giant lobster kettle! We loved the house so much, we didn’t want to leave.
This remarkable property is right on the Slocum River, complete with private dock, a mile from the open ocean and the beaches. 1/2 mile from Demarest Lloyd State Park (the Lloyd Center). 3 miles from the village of Padanaram and (Horseneck Beach). 5 miles from North Dartmouth or Westport, MA. Views from the large decks across the expansive river to the farmlands beyond.
South Dartmouth was settled in the early 1600's and has a rich history of farming, boat building, fishing and some the world's best sailing out of Padanaram Harbour. Historic New Bedford was at one point in time the wealthiest city in the United States as the capital of the Whaling Industry. The Demarset Lloyd State Park, Lloyd Center for Environmental Studies, UMass Dartmouth, galleries, museums, fabulous biking, some of the best fly fishing on the east coast, winery tours, antiques, etc are all within striking distance. South Dartmouth was written up in the Boston Globe not long ago as the best kept secret.
