The Seawall is a Wonderful Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures on this listing give an accurate representation of what to expect. The house is extremely clean and very comfortable. The views are fabulous and being able to sleep with the sound of the surf on the shore is exquisite. The area is quiet and secluded, but there are amenities within easy driving distance.

No negatives whatsoever to report.

One extreme positive to report is that the owner accommodated our very late arrival (numerous delays in our flights from Iowa). I won't say how late it was when we arrived because I don't want Bill put on the spot to do this again--but it was LATE and Bill was waiting patiently to welcome us for your stay.

Thanks so much for a wonderful week.

Rent it for the ocean view

  • 3 of 5

First, let's talk about the good things. The views from the deck are stunning. You can listen to the waves crash against the rocks and the stars at night seem to go on forever.

This place is an easy drive to the great restaurants of Southwest harbor and into the park for hiking. Although it is near the road traffic is minimal and we barely noticed it.

Now for the downside, some of which is easily fixable by the owner.

This place is FILLED with fake plants and mirrors. There is even a fake parrot. They are everywhere in every room. Dozens of them. The fake plants are old and have collected so much dust that some of them smell bad. There are mirrors on every wall in the master bath to give you views of yourself from every angle while brushing your teeth. In addition the carpeting and furniture both seem original from 1999 and after this many years so close to the ocean they give off a musty smell.

If the owner did just a bit of cosmetic updating I would definitely return, but for the cost I expected a bit more.

Owner's Response: First time I have had complaint about mirrors, plants, and carpets, or my beloved Parrot from Brazii, but I realize there are folks that have many fetishes, usually the real reason is that they could not afford the rate, which has been constant for over ten years. One tenant remarked that it would be worth the money with merely a tent on it, is a very spectacular property. wgm

A Tranquil Retreat

  • 5 of 5

While my family & I don't mind the hustle and bustle of activities during the day, we like to retreat to a quiet place at night to relax and re-energize for next day's hikes. The Seawall is such a place for us. From the waves and smell of the salty ocean air to the moonlight dancing on the water, the Seawall provides a serene and tranquil setting in which to relax.

The description of the house is accurate. We found it to be very comfortable and well-maintained. The location of the house is wonderful. It's adjacent to three easy trails in Acadia and it's two minutes away from Sawyer's Lobster Pound (best lobster roll in town in our opinion). About seven minutes away, are some really good places to eat such as Eat-a-Pita/Cafe 2 or Drydock Cafe & Inn and Quietside Cafe & Ice Cream shop.

I would recommend the Seawall to all. We hope to return in a few years as there are more trails in Acadia to cover. Thanks for sharing your little paradise with us Bill.

Perfect Private Waterfront Home

  • 5 of 5

Me and my family of 5 had the pleasure of spending a week at this beautiful home. The first thing that hits your senses as you pull into this tucked away..private property is the smell of the ocean's everywhere.

The "backyard" is in my opinion the main attraction....naturescape at it's finest! We did most of our cooking and hanging out at night right by the campfire only steps away from the ocean. My girls,10 and 7, really enjoyed the camping experience and were only steps away from the house when it was time to go to bed. In the morning time Bill has a "captain's chair" facing out into the ocean where you can sip on coffee and watch nature do her thing in HD.

The house itself was a perfect fit for our family of 5. It was equipped with all the modern amenities and WiFi so that I could jump on my laptop when I needed to. The kitchen, family/living room, bedrooms....all plentiful. Although the girls and their older brother did argue over who was going to get the bedroom with the killer ocean view!

Southwest Harbor is definitely the place be if you want peace and quiet. Everything you need is really on the one main road. If you're in the mood for some hustle and bustle and Irish pubs, Bar Harbor is only 25 min away.

Bill, thanks again for sharing your beautiful home with us....many beautiful memories were made. And we'll see you again in the near future.

location great

  • 4 of 5

We loved being on the Quiet Side of Mt. Desert Island--I would highly recommend that over the Bar Harbor side. Good access to hikes, lakes, waterfront for tide pool watching. Hike Acadia Mountain--it is a blast, but be prepared to clamber rocks. We also canoed Long Pond--take canoes for a day, not just three hours. It wasn't long enough! The house is directly across the street from great popovers.

The house was not in the best of condition. On the first day, a toilet pipe broke, flooding the bathroom, and we didn't get a repair until the next afternoon. The screens in one room are holey and we had to tape them. We taped the screen door shut in that room to prevent the mosquito swarm that happened on the first night. One of our group was not happy about the "professional cleaning service" results in advance of our stay and immediately purchased a new kitchen sponge. I would have expected these details to have been addressed.

The deck is outstanding, and we made a lobster dinner in seawater in the gas-fired cooker near the beach. It was a perfect evening.

Our stay was happy, but I think that the price was higher than the quasi-camping experience that we had deserved.

Owner's Response: Over the past 13 years, I have shared my spectacular oceanfront property and home to small families, couples, and others, who have been most grateful and thankful to have the opportunity to experience Maine oceanfront at its finest, have returned, most have written special thanks. I realized it would be only a matter of time that there would be complaints about trivial matters, this one is a classic. Floodlights are installed on the outside of the doorways to illuminate the grounds, if main doors are not closed it will attract flies in a twenty mile radius, a package of quality scotchbrite sponges still in the package were under the sink, no one had control of the water feed to the toilet to fail, however, it was truly amazing to obtain repair of the problem within 24 hours, on a Sunday, 4th of July weekend. My home is always immaculate, as mentioned in comments from other guests. My rental rate has not changed for 5 years. It is obvious that these folks have taken the kool aid

The Seawall - A Lovely Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at The Seawall. It was the perfect choice! The location of The Seawall couldn't be better. It was extremely private, incredible views to wake up to every morning, five minutes to the perfect little town (Southwest Harbor), twenty five minutes to Bar Harbor, and the entrance to Acadia National Park is right up the road.

I highly recommend this property!
