A TRULY LOVELY, CLEAN AND COZY HOLIDAY HOME

  • 5 of 5
We spent a fabulous time in the cottage over Christmas, I can’t recommend it highly enough! The cottage is beautiful, clean, very comfortable and cozy. We (3 friends) hired the cottage for a week, and could easily have stayed much longer. There is plenty to see in the area, and we included a trip to the Blue Lagoon (possibly a little bit far for a day trip, but we really wanted to go. Well worth it!) If you go in the winter be aware that the roads are very icy, you will be grateful you hired a very sturdy car.

If you don’t want to drive Geysir is within walking distance and well worth a visit. But do bring yaktrax’s in the winter – those spiky things you put on your winter boats – as you will be walking on ice. The Geysir hotel, also within walking distance, came in very handy for a last minute wine run! We cooked all our meals at home; the kitchen is very well equipped and everything was very clean and in good working order.

As the cottage was so fabulous, we spent a lot of time there. It’s such a lovely space to relax. I would recommend bringing your own DVD’s, even though there is quite a good selection there already. But you can’t really rely on the local TV stations for entertainment. We also brought tea lights – there are lots of holders – and some Christmas decorations to make the place feel even cozier.

Our favourite bit was the hot tube, sitting in there at night trying to spot the Northern Lights. We saw them one evening, which was incredible. But on the other evenings the beautiful stars (many shooting stars) and general atmospheric surrounding was equally great.

Kristin is absolutely lovely and made the rental very straightforward. We had an amazing time, probably one of my favourite holidays! Do rent this cottage, you will not regret it! We will definitely go back!

VERY CLEAN AND TIDY AND HAS A LOVELY HOMELY FEEL

  • 5 of 5
Kristin was extremely helpful throughout the whole booking process. The property exceeded my expectations from the moment I walked in having a very homely feel. It was very clean and well maintained and the hot tub was an added bonus. The location was perfect, situated within walking distance of the Geysir and 10 minutes away from Gulfoss waterfall. Surrounded by mountains, 500 yards off the road and very easy to find with Kristins directions. We were extremely lucky to get an amazing show of the northern lights which we watched from the hot tub. I would definately recommend this property and would like to thank Kristin for all her help and quick response in all correspondence.

WONDERFUL COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
We booked two cottages in the same little area, and we couldn't have been happier. We were a group of students looking to see the Northern Lights and to see some of Iceland. Whilst the weather wasn't great (our fault!), we managed to see some lights and we saw a lot of great sites in Iceland. The cottages are perfectly located to see the whole of the Golden Circle and to go both to Reykjavik and away from it.
The cottages themselves were incredibly homely, really comfortable and having the hot tubs were a great treat. Especially after a long day's trekking.
Kristin has been really helpful the entire time, and I don't think me or anyone else in the group would have been happier anywhere else!
Thank you Kristin for an incredible stay!

GREAT WEEK IN A COSY COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
Kristin's cottage is a lovely, warm home a few minutes from Geysir and about two hours from Reykjavik. My husband and I spent a week there just before Christmas, when sunrise and sunset were four hours apart. Iceland is a wonderful place and well worth a visit - I've never been anywhere like it. We're planning to go back one summer, as I imagine that Iceland has a different "character" in the warmer months.

The cottage is warm and cosy, with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, and that includes my own! The kitchen is small but has everything you'd need. The lounge is cosy, and we particularly appreciated the fleece blankets to snuggle up in. I can't recall there being much in the way of English language programming on the TV and while there is a small selection of DVDs and CDs. I think, in hindsight, I would have packed some movies or TV sets for the evenings. The internet connection was really handy. Finally the hot tub was very toasty - almost too warm! - but it was lovely to sit under the night sky in -6C degrees and still be warm. Although it was too cloudy for the aurora while we were there, I can imagine that you get a terrific view when they are around. I also thought the Xmas decorations were a nice touch.

There's plenty to do in Iceland and it goes without saying that a car or 4x4 is essential to get to the cottage. Bear in mind that Iceland is absolutely massive. We didn't do anything out of the ordinary with regard to attractions: Geysir, Gulfoss, Skogafoss etc. although my husband loved the glacier walking with Arcanum. The Blue Lagoon is an absolute must, but they know it and their prices reflect it. We would recommend Hotel Geysir where we ate reindeer and mink whale. They have an especially charming waiter named Jon. We also ate at Icelandic Fish & Chips in Reykjavik which served beautiful fish, although they are a tad pricey.

With regard to food, follow Kirsten's advice and go shopping in Reykjavik or Selfoss on the way up. We shopped in Bonus in Reykjavik, and picked up a few things in the minimarket in Reykholt when we needed milk etc. At home, people have asked me if Iceland is as expensive as it is made out to be. I would say it isn't, although it depends where you're shopping. One night we had a quick meal for two in a KFC in Reykjavik - it cost £18. On the whole I found most things comparable with the UK.

Kristin keeps a lovely home and I'd highly recommend it as a place to stay.

FANTASTIC PROPERTY AND LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
Thank you Kristin, my family loved staying in your cottage. We were amazed at how spacious it was and the kids loved sleeping upstairs. We went in the hot tub every evening and watched the stars and a faint glimer of Northern Lights.

For anyone unsure whether to stay in a hotel or go self catering I would recomend this cottage, it's great for a family to have so much space, food in the supermarkets was very reasonably priced, driving in Iceland is easy as there's not much traffic, the cottage is easy to find and once you're there you are so close to the geysirs and Gulfosss waterfall and not far from Pingvellir National Park either. Altogether a great holiday, and if you're still not convinced send Kristin an enquiry, she returns emails so promptly and answers all your questions, you'll soon be booking!
