It has the mildest climate in South Africa and the second mildest in the world, after Hawaii, according to the Guinness Book of Records. Temperatures rarely fall below 10°C in winter and rarely climb beyond 28°C in summer. Its weather is influenced by the Agulhas current of the Indian ocean to the south, and by the presence of the Outeniqua Mountains to the north. The average days of sunshine are 320 days per year.
Information about the area: Reebok is 12 minutes away from Mosselbay with historic sites, lovely beaches, surfing, diving, dining, wonderful views and Cape St Blaize. -Cape St Blaize Cave is situated directly under the Cape St Blaize Lighthouse, is the site of one of South Africa’s oldest archaeological excavations. The Cave has revealed deposits dating from about 200,000 years ago to the pre-colonial period.
The Garden Route has dramatic river cut gorges, beautiful beaches, rocky headlands and deep tangled forests - the quintessential Garden Route images. Stretching from Mossel Bay in the west, to Port Elizabeth in the east, this is a gorgeous stretch of coastal paradise strung features great hiking, with rambles ranging from an hour to a few days, covering rocky coasts, deep forests, pretty fynbos and long sandy beaches. The diving is good, as is the surfing, and there are some fun sea kayaking and flat water paddling trips. Some of the country's best mountain bike trails snake through the forests, and there are horse trails for every taste and level of ability. The GR is sandwiched between the mountains and the Indian ocean.
Ten nature reserves embrace the varied ecosystems of the area as well as unique marine reserves, home to soft coral reefs, dolphins and seals and a host of other marine life. Various bays along the Garden Route are nurseries to the endangered Southern Right Whale which come there to calve in the winter and spring (July to December).
The most popular exploration of the Garden Route is by car.
